'Bones' recap: I ain't sayin' she's a Gravedigger. (But she is.)

Filed under: Bones, Television and tagged: , ,

bones_320.jpg Image Credit: Mathieu Young/FOX Who was worried that Heather Taffet was gonna walk last night? After Sweets’ speech to Cam about how the world is unjust, I actually thought there was a possibility that she might be found not guilty of being the Gravedigger. Had that happened, I would have thrown my TV. Not something at my TV. I mean, literally, thrown my TV. I could feel my blood pressure rising throughout the trial, so major props to stone-cold guest star Deirdre Lovejoy. READ FULL STORY »

'Spider-Man' musical may see the light of day after all

Filed under: News and tagged:

spidermanBroadway’s Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark musical has been the punching bag of the theater world for the past couple of years, as the production has bounded from delay to delay. Two months ago, Evan Rachel Wood, who was set to star, dropped out of her role as Mary Jane. Then just a few weeks ago, The Good Wife star Alan Cumming made his exit as the Green Goblin, leaving just little-known Reeve Carney, who’s set to portray Spider-Man, in the mix. All that, and the show hadn’t even neared rehearsals yet!

But there is potentially good news for the future of the show on the horizon: New York Post theater columnist Michael Riedel is reporting that the in-question production is indeed on, with rehearsals starting this summer, previews beginning in October, and an official opening in November. The column also claims that the production has a new Green Goblin in Patrick Page, and producers are apparently seeing potential Mary Jane replacements. Producers for the show, and its publicity team, have not made any official announcements.

So whaddya think, PopWatchers? Do you think Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will ever see the light of day? And if it does, will you still want to see it? Sound off!

'The Real Housewives of New York' recap: Kelly goes kookadoodle

real_housewives_nyRecently I’d begun to worry that I wanted to break up with the Housewives. All of their manufactured dramas had grown tiresome and tedious. And yet last night, towards the end of what had been an overwhelming week and all I wanted was a good, deliciously silly hour of TV, came the perfect such hour. This may have been my favorite episode of the entire franchise. And Sonja, I must say that I think you are the most delightful, sweet-natured, refreshing horndog ever to grace a Bravo production. Somebody get this woman a Hooters girl to cuddle up with stat.

“Buzz kills” LuAnn and Jill decided to sit out Ramona’s bachelorette trip to St. John. Jill was mercifully absent from the entire episode—in seclusion brain-storming ways to wrest the unflattering story line from the producers’ clutches—but LuAnn came through in a big way with some studio time. Apparently when LuAnn gets near a microphone, the spirit of James Brown takes over her. “Ho!” she said unconvincingly. “Oh!” Oh no! Seriously LuAnn, never again. Her producer, a ridiculous man, thinks natural ability  is cool and all but does he really want to go see Itzhak Perlman and Mariah Carey in concert? “I mean, those are unbelievable singers,” LuAnn says. Well actually …. oh, never mind. Anyways, LuAnn takes off her jacket and snaps her fingers and shakes her narrow hips a little, reminding us in an unforgiving climb up the scales that elegance is lear-er-er-ned. That tomcat wail is what her producer is talking about!

'Vampire Diaries' season finale recap: Founders Day frenzy

vampire_diariesImage Credit: BOB MAHONEY/CW This is how you do a season finale: Three shocking moments of Damon sincerity reminding us that Ian Somerhalder can speak without moving his eyebrows, two notable deaths (possibly four, or five), one forbidden kiss, and a twist ending (Katherine!). We got enough closure to get us through the summer, but enough of a cliffhanger to make sure we’ll be back in the fall. And Jeremy made the hottest Civil War soldier since Jude Law in Cold Mountain. Alec Baldwin reveals his mother's tips for a long life to Letterman: 'Drink diet soda every day'

Last night, 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman and, among other things, revealed the hilarious rules his 80-year-old mother, Carolyn, has abided by to live a long life. Ribbing his mother for being a “media whore” and refusing to leave her upstate New York home for better weather in Cali (“And leave Wegmans?”), Alec’s first tip from his mother Carolyn was to “Drink diet soda every day for 65 years. Preferably Tab.” Based on that tip alone, I know Carolyn and I would get along smashingly. (Note: It’s before 9 a.m., and I’m already enjoying my first Diet Coke.) Natch, all of the bon mots from Mama Baldwin were hilarious, from things like never exercising a day in your life to watching Jeopardy every day. Who knew that a daily dose of Alex Trebek could do a body good? Watch the clip for yourself here: READ FULL STORY »

'Supernatural' season finale recap: Nothing ever really ends...does it?

supernaturalImage Credit: MICHAEL COURTNEY/The CWIt’s been a weird season of Supernatural. Since the beginning of the series, it excelled at taking us all on this great mythological ride. But whereas past seasons found a way to make every episode relevant to the larger story arcs (even the humorous episodes chock full of campy goodness), this season’s main plot seemed to hobble with a limp leg toward resolution. Don’t get me wrong: Each episode was good for what it was meant to be, but some were so lacking in purpose that a few felt like they could have been absorbed by other episodes, which was frustrating as a viewer. Forgivable (because the show is just that fun), but a little frustrating. But last night’s episode sent every minuscule gripe and grievance straight to hell where they belong. In the end, they made it all work and brought me to tears several times in the process. With little regard for the emotional health of their audience, here’s how they did it. Cue “Carry On Wayward Son.” READ FULL STORY »

Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains' episode 13

Filed under: Reality TV, Television and tagged: , ,

survivor-jeff-probstImage Credit: Monty Brinton/CBSSandra (to Rupert):  “Loose lips sink ships.”

And just like that, Rupert is gone and we are down to one remaining hero left in the game.

Colby.  Like the cowboys of old he stands alone, atop the mountain.  Weathered skin from years of being on horseback, he props a Winchester rifle against his shoulder.  This battle could get ugly.  Then again, the way Colby has played this year, he might just set the rifle down and surrender to the opposition.

It’s been an interesting season for Colby.  He was asked back for this season because he was the first and many (including myself) would say quintessential hero of this game.  But this season has been rough on Colby.  He has not performed up to his or anybody else’s expectations and yet here he is heading into the final episode with a one in five shot at winning the million dollars.  Colby is a great example of why you should never quit in this game or any other game.  You gotta be in it to win it.  He’s still in it.  He could still win it. 'Community' recap: Making the grade

Filed under: Community, Television and tagged: , ,

Community-Mchale-ReligionImage Credit: Trae Patton/NBCComing on the heels of what could be considered an ”event” of an episode, Community was back in normal form last night, which is not at all a bad thing. Sure, last week’s episode was everything pop culture freaks (term used lovingly) could have hoped for, but its success largely hinged on the viewer’s ability to recognize the litany of movie reference it contained. On the contrary, this week was something for everyone. READ FULL STORY »

'30 Rock' recap: Come on, Bible, help a lady out

30_rockImage Credit: Ali Goldstein/NBCIt’s wedding season PopWatchers, and just as the tradition goes, we got a heavy dose of “something old” on last night’s 30 Rock. Tracy revisited painful childhood memories, while Liz spent time with boyfriends past, hoping to find she had somehow been wrong about one of these duds all along.

So Liz gave her Gentlemen Rolodex a spin (or as Jenna likes to call it, “sexual time travel”) in order to prevent being dateless at Floyd’s wedding. While the fear of looking like a loser in the eyes of your ex can be paralyzing, is it really worth revisiting a frustrating relationship that failed for a reason? (Even if it happened to be with the dapper Jon Hamm, so handsome!). Yes, I have my judgment face on, but only because I know that astronaut Mike Dexter is out there for you Liz Lemon! And for me too, and for all of us…he better be, because I don’t want to end up a Plushie, mascot costumes aren’t my thing. READ FULL STORY »

'The Office' recap: Silent, but deadly

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

the-officeImage Credit: Justin Lubin/NBCI know that some people have been irritated by Pam lately, but for my money, this has been a standout season for Jenna Fischer. In fact, I think you can trace Pam’s six-season character arc as a kind of rise to power – the slow-motion emergence of a shy person’s extroverted soul. Remember when Pam was engaged to a doofus, just a quiet receptionist with a crazy boss and a dead-end future? (After her season 3 coal-walking speech, Oscar admitted that he’d barely ever heard her speak. Clearly, the Finer Things Club hadn’t been invented yet.) Compare that to the woman she is now: outgoing, goofy, maybe a little too willing to stick her nose in other people’s business, but only because she genuinely cares about those other people.
