'Gossip Girl' finale recap: Big developments (and letdowns)

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

Gossip-Girl-Blair_320.jpg Image Credit: Giovanni Rufino/The CW Much like grief, I dealt with last night’s Gossip Girl season finale in stages. First, I was flummoxed. Oh, the twists and scandals! Then, I was angry and annoyed… I’ll let you know what comes next when I get there. It’s safe to say I’m on the fence, but let’s take a closer look. [Seriously, stop reading now if you haven't watched the show yet.] READ FULL STORY »

'Big Bang Theory' recap: When Leonard met Sheldon

Big-Bang-Theory_320.jpg Image Credit: Robert Voets/CBSI love me a good flashback episode. Fat Monica on Friends, Will and Grace as boyfriend and girlfriend on Will & Grace, how Lisa got her sax on The Simpsons — those are some classic sitcom moments. Unfortunately, when we’re flashing back to the good ol’ days of the first generation iPod, it’s difficult to laugh about how things have changed because, well, they aren’t that different now than they were in the early 2000s. (Save for the fact that Firefly is no longer on television. Sorry, Sheldon.) That’s why I have to say I felt that last night’s Big Bang Theory fell as short as a Yoda action figure. 'House' season finale: The time has come

Can one scene redeem a whole episode? How about 90 percent of a season? Can House‘s roller-coaster year — mental institution! roommate squabbles! Lucas! — be declared a success based on a whopper of a closer? READ FULL STORY »

'24' recap: Jack Bauer is Iron Man!

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

24-Sutherland_240.jpg Image Credit: Greg Gayne/Fox First things first: I trust that, by now, you’ve read how Fox plans to replace 24 next season: A new cop drama from The Shield’s Shawn Ryan! A police drama set in Chicago doesn’t sound quite as sexy as Kiefer Sutherland saving the world in a 24-hour period, but I’m going to reserve judgment until I see what Jason Clarke (Brotherhood) will bring to the badge – and whether Ryan will serve up some of that true grit that we came to love from his FX drama. 'How I Met Your Mother' recap: Ted's ready for his close-up

How-Mother-Bliss_320.jpg Image Credit: Karen Neal/CBS It’s been a rocky season for How I Met Your Mother, and the long-awaited “Wedding Bride” episode had some return-to-form high points: The ongoing gag of the literal luggage, the crummy catch phrase Ted’s alter-ego Jed Mosely spews in the movie, the always-welcome Judy Greer. (Thought it was strange having just seen her on Big Bang last week.) And yet I can’t help but think that what Ted needed in this episode wasn’t the love and support of a caring girlfriend — it was a swift kick to the teeth. READ FULL STORY »

'Castle' season finale recap: Decisions, decisions

Filed under: Castle, Television and tagged: , ,

Castle-Fillion_320.jpg Image Credit: Michael Desmond/ABCBefore we get into Beckett’s decision, let me just say that I’m kinda sorry that the “pretend-you’re-a-spy-vacation” victim was folded into an episode with the resolution of the Beckett-Castle-Demming love triangle. That was a fun case that I believe Castle could have had even more fun with if given those extra minutes to play. I guess we were supposed to see the parallel between the case and Beckett’s dilemma: people get hurt when others don’t have the nerve to say what they truly feel (a married man was gunned down by his mistresses’ husband during the spy game). But I feel like that’s a cool enough case that you devote an entire hour to it in Season 3. (I mean, I Googled to see if companies like “Spy Ventures” exist. I came up empty-handed. Anyone find anything?) READ FULL STORY »

'Survivor Talk': Sandra says Russell was more annoying than Jonny Fairplay (Yikes!)

Sandra Diaz-Twine became the first two-time Survivor champion when she won Heroes vs Villains. But if you thought victory would mellow the lippy lady, you thought wrong. Sandra stopped by the EW offices this afternoon for a special installment of Survivor Talk (as did Russell and Parvati, whose joint video has to be seen to be believed), and she wasted no time in reminding us of her hatred of all things Hantz. She also clued us in on lots that we didn’t see, such as her plan to give her hidden immunity idol to…Rupert?!?  To see sassy Sandra in action, check out the video below, and then head over to the Russell and Parvati show. And for all the Survivor scoop year round, follow me on Twitter @EWDaltonRoss. Okay, take it away Sandra! READ FULL STORY »

'Survivor Talk': Russell and Parvati argue over who deserved to win 'Heroes vs Villains'

Survivor-20-FinalImage Credit: Monty Brinton/CBSWe saw Russell and Parvati arguing quite a bit down the stretch of Survivor: Heroes vs Villains, but there’s one thing they do agree upon: The right person did not win the game. Agreeing on whom the right person is, however, is a different matter. The second and third place finishers stopped by EW for a special Survivor Talk chat. Among the topics covered: Which contestant hates Russell the most? (The answer will surprise you.) Does Parvati feel she played better here or in Micronesia? And in the most shocking development of all, Russell finally admits he may have a problem when it comes to addressing the jury. (Get out!) Too see this dysfunctional couple in all their hilarious, bickering glory check out the must watch video below. After that, make sure to catch my Survivor Talk interview with Heroes vs Villains champ Sandra, where she talks about trying to give her hidden immunity idol to…Rupert? And for all the Survivor scoop year round, follow me on Twitter @EWDaltonRoss. Okay, take it away, Parv and Russ! READ FULL STORY »

Chris Klein audition tape for 'Mamma Mia!' goes viral. Please tell us this isn't real.

Filed under: Movies and tagged: , ,

Perhaps you’ve seen this video. You know, the one in which American Pie actor Chris Klein sings “Lay All Your Love On Me” during an audition for Mamma Mia! We’re not sure whether this is a joke or if it’s for real — Klein’s reps declined to comment to EW — but we’re kind of hoping it’s the former. Because then, it would be hilarious. If it’s the latter, well, then it’s the saddest thing we’ve seen all day.

Enjoy?

'Dancing With the Stars': Semifinals are liiiiiiive!

Filed under: Reality TV and tagged: ,

Four couples left! Evan Lysacek (pictured in an attempt to win the Gellar Cup via the power of his and Anna’s futuristic cha cha), Erin Andrews, Chad Ochocinco, and Nicole Scherzinger have made it to the semifinals of Dancing With the Stars season 10. Tom Bergeron will probably give them his typical career-appropriate nicknames like “The Golden Boy,” “The Sideline Sweetheart,” “The Football Stud,” and “The Pussycat Doll,” but I wish he would switch/swish it up a bit. May I propose “The Census Taker of Jiggly Bits,” “The Feather Duster from Beauty and the Beast,” “The Moonlighting Jeweler,” and “Princess Sparkle Jr.“? Everyone would know exactly what he meant!

Discuss the Week 9 performance show and nominate your Hidden Gems of the Week here, then come back tomorrow morning for my full recap and Crazy Costume Watch photo gallery!
