'V' season finale recap: Red Sky/Blue Sky

Tagged: , ,

v-tv-showImage Credit: Jeff Petry/ABCMore things happened in the season finale of V than in every other episode of the first season combined. That’s a good thing. V definitely needs to inject some adrenaline into its reptile heart, now that it’s won the “hey, it’s more popular than FlashForward” sweepstakes and will be coming back for a second season. You could still argue that about half the characters in the main cast are extraneous, but you have to admit that the cliffhanger ending left you just a little bit interested in seeing where they take things in season 2.

The gist of the episode, I think, came down to three death scenes: READ FULL STORY »

Alfred Molina joins 'Abduction,' 'The Three Musketeers' gets a queen (Excess Hollywood)

  • Alfred Molina has joined the cast of Taylor Lautner’s Abduction as a CIA agent searching for the leading man. Unfortunately, he doesn’t realize until the end of the movie that he can just consult the Twilight message boards to find Lautner. [Deadline]
  • Juno Temple is in talks to play the queen in Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3-D take on The Three Musketeers. Seeing as Temple played Jane Parker — Anne Boleyn’s sister-in-law who went insane in the Tower of London and was subsequently executed — in 2008′s The Other Boleyn Girl, this is quite the promotion. [THR]
  • AMC has picked up pilot Hell On Wheels, which is centered around the transcontinental railroad’s 19th-century construction. If people think the transcontinental railroad is “hell on wheels,” then they obviously have never seen me try to drive a stick-shift. [Deadline]
  • Sony Pictures Classics has acquired Vera Drake director Mike Leigh’s ensemble drama Another Year — as in, another year, another Mike Leigh Oscar contender. This one’s about “a happily married couple, some troubled friends, and the nuanced emotions of aging.” [THR]

LeBron James: What NYC celebs should the Knicks send to woo him?

Tagged:

Lebron-JamesImage Credit: Reuters/Aaron Josefczyk/LandovThe last time the New York Knicks went after a superstar free agent, they tried to impress him with a trio of Big Apple celebrities in an attempt to seal the deal: Chazz Palminteri, Star Jones, and Peter Boyle. Needless to say, then-Pistons forward Grant Hill didn’t sign with the Knicks back in 2000. But now, on July 1, Cleveland’s LeBron James will become the most-coveted free agent in basketball history, and New York is among the frontrunners to land him. Certainly, the team will be recruiting high-wattage Knicks fans to sell James on living and playing in Manhattan, but selecting the right mixture of celebs is crucial. If the Knicks were to send a jet to Cleveland with three famous New Yorkers best suited to sell LeBron on New York, who should they choose? Denzel Washington? Robert De Niro? Derek Jeter? Donald Trump? READ FULL STORY »

'Nowhere Boy' trailer nails Lennon-McCartney genesis

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

Aaron Johnson of Kick-Ass doesn’t resemble a young John Lennon in the slightest, but that doesn’t prevent the hairs from standing on the back of my neck when Johnson shakes hands with Thomas Sangster’s Paul McCartney for the first time in the new trailer for Nowhere Boy. READ FULL STORY »

'Lost': Matthew Fox talks to Jimmy Fallon about the 'beautiful ending'

The Jack Shephard Farewell Tour continued last night on Late Night, one evening after revealing to David Letterman that the Lost series finale would not pull a Newhart it-was-all-a-dream stunt. It began rather awkwardly, with Fallon congratulating Fox on his Saturday Night Live episode — from four years ago — and then asking the actor about his childhood growing up on a Wyoming ranch. It felt like an uncomfortable first date, with Fallon paying rapt attention as Fox talked about his Economics degree from Columbia. READ FULL STORY »

'American Idol': On the scene for Top 3 performance night

Casey-James-BowersoxImage Credit: Michael Becker/PictureGroupSo we’re approaching the finish line of Lost American Idol, and it’s time to speculate, theorize, and create projections for the approaching finale. From my seat in the Idoldome, one thing was clear: Women adore Lee DeWyze. Whenever Lee sang or walked by, the middle-aged women in my row melted — Amelie style — into a puddle of schoolgirlish infatuation. I heard words such as “awesome” and “incredible” being tossed around the audience at a frequency rivaling a Steve Jobs keynote speech, and a pack of girls in the pit once again got their voices on national television by shouting, “We love you, Lee!” Last week’s results show was when I first noticed the Idoldome’s escalating adoration for the (in case Idol hadn’t reminded you enough) former paint salesman, and last night felt like an official coronation. (I say this from the point-of-view of someone who’s firmly in the Crystal camp). Again, it’s impossible to know whether the Idoldome’s preferences reflect those of the voting public, but if I could only base my finale prediction on what I witnessed last night, I’d say this race is all sewn up. Jemaine Clement in talks to play creepy-yet-charming bad guy in 'Men in Black III'

Filed under: Movies, News and tagged: ,

jemaine-clementImage Credit: Donna Ward/PR PhotosIn thinking what Jemaine Clement should do when we learned Flight of the Conchords would not return for a third season on HBO, “play a bad guy in Men in Black III” was not the first thing that came to mind. But according to the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline’s Mike Fleming, that’s in the works, and frankly, it’s a pretty flippin’ good idea. Clement — who next stars with Steve Carell in Dinner For Schmucks – will follow in the footsteps of Vincent D’Onofrio’s bug and Lara Flynn Boyle’s alien Serleena as the MIBIII villain Boris, which THR says is described as “charmy and creepy at the same time.” (Are there two traits Clement is better suited to simultaneously manifest than “charmy and creepy”?) Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones are already on board for the threequel, and Josh Brolin is playing a young version of Jones’ character (most of the movie takes place in 1969). The plot is under wraps and there’s more casting on the way (how about Bret McKenzie as a villain who’s ”meek and spazztastically funky at the same time”?), but with the addition of the Hiphopopotamus, this is looking to be a fun summer 2012 popcorn flick. Right, PopWatchers?

'Glee': Neil Patrick Harris talks guest spot, working with Joss Whedon again, and why Finn is his favorite character

Glee-Neil-PatrickImage Credit: Michael Yarish/FoxI was on set for the filming of tonight’s episode of Glee, which was directed by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon and featured Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) as Will’s old rival Bryan Ryan. In between takes of Bryan and Will’s dynamic cover of Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” Harris sat down with me to talk about guest-starring on the Fox series, working with Whedon, and the Glee character he finds “dreamy.” (For those of you who haven’t seen the episode tonight, a mild spoiler alert warning!) 'Lost' instant reaction: Start talking about 'What They Died For'

Filed under: Lost, Television and tagged: ,

Lost-Died-ForImage Credit: Mario Perez/ABCBefore we begin, let’s talk about the importance of a high fiber diet. It’s one of the few subjects we haven’t discussed in obsessive detail over the past six years, but it’s an important one, and I think here at the end, we should squeeze in a conversation about the matter. Getting mucho fiber into your body each day is crucial to living a healthy, fully-realized life. For starters, it keeps you regular. I know it’s unseemly to talk about our poops, but we can’t afford to be shy about this. You don’t want to get backed up. Seriously. Do you know what happens when you keep too much toxicity inside you for too long? That’s right: You become a steaming coil of psychopathic black smoke. Forever. You don’t want that. Nobody wants that. READ FULL STORY »
