Miley Cyrus joins the celebrity designer 'Oops!' list.

Miley Cyrus might be the latest celebrity designer to come in contact with controversy — thanks to this whole unfortunate toxic jewelry thing (still less dangerous than listening to “Party in the U.S.A.” on repeat) — but she certainly isn’t the first. After the jump, a few clothing-centric scandals involving celebrity designers that made headlines. READ FULL STORY »

'Lost' to address unanswered mysteries with DVD extras. PLUS: A killer hip-hop salute to the show!

Filed under: Lost, News, Television and tagged: ,

Supper-Lost-Locke-photoImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCLost fans are already sweating the prospect that Sunday’s series won’t resolve their favorite pet mystery or most burning question. For those left wanting, there is hope: EW has confirmed a TV Guide report that the producers plan to address a selection of baffling bits of unfinished business on the season 6 DVD, which goes on sale in August. An ABC insider says the set will include “new content that addresses some of the unanswered questions in an entertaining way,” though disputed reports that there could be as much as 20 minutes worth of mystery-resolution material.

While Lost die-hards probably needed no incentive to invest in the DVD, the promise of extra revelation will no doubt increase the chances that they will make the purchase the second it becomes available. What do you think of the move? On one hand, I can see fans feeling grateful that producers are looking out for their interests. On the other hand, I can see them irked that none of the DVD stuff was in the (free-to-watch) show. Getting past that: which mysteries should get addressed? Personally, I’d like to know more about the Dharma palette drop (season 2) and Jacob’s cabin (season 3 and 5). How about you? But before you answer, check out this epic, inspired, and rather moving fan-made music video dedicated to the show. (Video embedded after the jump.) If you’re a Lost fan, get ready to hear your new favorite song. READ FULL STORY »

Can you 'Believe' it's Cher's 64th birthday?

cherImage Credit: Jordan Strauss/WireImage.comNo need for this lady to turn back time: Cher is looking mighty fine these days — even at 64 years old. So, congratulations, Cher, for officially becoming a member of the Sexy at 64 club! (Presiding over the club is Helen Mirren; Goldie Hawn serves as vice president; Dolly Parton and Diane Sawyer as co-secretaries; and Lucille 2 as party planner.) In celebration of your birthday, I’m flipping my hair back and adding “Half-Breed” to my line-up for the next time I go karaoke-ing. Which will probably be soon, since whenever more than three EW staffers congregate in a room, it somehow ends in karaoke.

EW Exclusive: Robot Unicorn Attack heading to iPhone in June

Filed under: Videogames and tagged: , , ,

Robot-unicornRobot Unicorn Attack, one of the most addictive, adorable Flash games in living memory [makes noise], is coming to the iPhone. Uh-oh — now I’ll be “chasing my dreams” (a.k.a. playing this game obsessively) pretty much at all times. The app launches June 1 and will be $2.99.

RUA is absurdly simple: it’s a side-scrolling two-button game set to a hypnotic Erasure soundtrack. And yet it’s completely mesmerizing, as if Canabalt [makes noise] mated with every Lisa Frank folder you ever had.

What’s your top RUA score, PopWatchers? And will you be playing on your iPhone come June?

Betty White on 'The Middle': Never underestimate the importance of penmanship

Continuing with her own 2010 Rainbow Tour, Betty White popped up on the season finale of The Middle last night as tyrannical librarian Mrs. Nethercott. She was determined to destroy Brick Heck (Atticus Shaffer), who despite being a voracious reader, had a tendency to return dirty library books.

From her reading glasses necklace to the colorful “I <3 Books” pin on her pink cardigan, White completely fit the role of librarian. But while she just oozes cuteness, it was fun to see her play a slightly evil character (like she did in her “Scared Straight” skit on SNL). Her literary-themed threats were particularly funny: “You have until Walt Whitman’s birthday…” (That’s May 31st for anyone who’s curious. Less than two weeks to get your gifts!). She was serious about her job and sought to instill fear in even the most accomplished second grader. If Brick did not return all 31 of his library books, Mrs. Nethercott would prevent him from advancing to the third grade — you know the year when you learn all those important life skills…like cursive. “You think you can make it out in the real world without cursive? You can’t!” READ FULL STORY »

MTV picks up 'Teen Wolf,' Emma Watson and Logan Lerman to be 'Wallflower's

excess-hollywood

  • It’s official: MTV has picked up Teen Wolf. Too bad poor Andy can’t watch. [THR]
  • Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson and Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ Logan Lerman are in negotiations to star in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which is based on a book that “has been on the American Library Assn.’s list of the 10 most frequently challenged for reasons including the treatment of drugs, sex, and suicide.” Sniff. They grow up so fast. [Variety]
  • Paul Greengrass will not be directing the 3-D version of Fantastic Voyage, and instead focusing on an adaptation of Treasure Island. I guess because his name sounds cool in pirate-speak. Argh, Paul Greengr-aughss! [Deadline]
  • J.J. Abrams is hoping if Phil Alden Robinson builds his heist project, people will come. The Field of Dreams scribe has been tapped to pen the script for Abrams’ heist flick. [THR]
  • Walden Media will be turning Frank Cottrell Boyce’s children’s book, Cosmic, into a feature film. Described as “Apollo 13 meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” the story centers on a boy who finds himself in a spaceship after being mistaken for an adult. So I guess Justin Bieber is out of the running then? [THR]
  • The CW has ordered the weight-loss reality show Shedding for the Wedding, which features couples competing to shed pounds before their weddings. Not, as I initially thought (okay, hoped), a series about longhaired cats making a commitment. [Deadline]
  • Ashton Kutcher will executive produce a Beauty and the Geek-esque reality show called Geek Meets Girl, which follows a nerd and a beautiful woman on a date. Awesome — I’ve always wanted to see what a night on the town is like for Peter Orszag and Bianna Golodryga. [Variety]

'The Good Guys': 'Stache of the Titans

good-guys-premierImage Credit: Bill Matlock/FoxFox clearly has some high-ish hopes for The Good Guys, their new action-comedy cop spoof. It’s debuting in the summer, which is still kind of a dead period for broadcast scripted programming, but they’ve already given it a slot in their fall schedule. (Admittedly, they’ve put it on Friday, aka “the Timeslot of Doom.” And it didn’t so well in the ratings last night.) The network aired a preview episode last night before the Idol results show, and although The Good Guys isn’t perfect, there are three things that have convinced me to stick with it:

Jon Bon Jovi playing the maracas: Is it sexy? I can't tell.

bon-jovi-maracasLast night I saw Bon Jovi rock a stadium for the first time. Judging from the number of women seen tailgating (in groups, wearing matching T-shirts designed to mark the occasion) — and the fact that a husband sitting in front of me returned from a bathroom run pissed that the facility had chosen to convert a number of men’s rooms into ladies’ — the band’s fanbase is now 80 percent female. That makes the question in the headline important enough for me to interrupt my vacation: Does Jon Bon Jovi make the maracas sexy?

I caught The Circle Tour at Hershey Park, but after the jump, you’ll find a clip of him shaking said maracas during “Keep the Faith” at a Nashville concert last month. Watch, make an informed decision, then vote in our poll. Note: The clip starts out a bit blurry, but by :45, when you first realize the level of Jon’s commitment, it’s crystal clear. You’ll then want to skip ahead to 2:12, when he turns his back to the audience and begins to shake the maracas side-to-side. It was at this point, watching him on the giant screen last night, that I had to laugh. There may have been an actual guffaw when he hit — and held — the position pictured above. But then things got confusing: When he turned away from us again (like at 4:16), I realized he’d somehow gone around the dial, passed not-sexy, and was back to being sexy. My theory: you watch Jon Bon Jovi perform any repetitive motion long enough, you’re going to think of sex. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Bieber's BET nod: Jimmy Kimmel gets opinions from South Central L.A.

Apparently, Jimmy Kimmel was just as puzzled as the rest of us by Justin Bieber’s recent BET nod for Best New Artist. But unlike those of us who simply trolled the blogosphere for commentary, Kimmel actually hit the streets, sending a camera crew to L.A.’s South Central to find out what real people think about the news. The results? Some pretty hilarious reactions. Check out the video after the jump, and then sound off in the comments: What do you think of Bieber as a BET nominee?
