'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' recap: Shirtless Joe, Scary Danielle

Filed under: Reality TV and tagged: ,

Teresa-labor-Real_JerseyImage Credit: BravoLet’s all be honest with each other that the New Jersey season has so far been a snooze. Danielle has quickly grown tedious. I find myself watching scenes with her with the same hooded eye disdain as her daughter Christine, whose flat sullenness continues to alarm me on a weekly basis. Apparently the producers are worried we’re bored as well because they were, in a sore miscalculation of their target audience, throwing in lap dances at Scores for free. “It’s every woman’s fantasy,” Jacqueline intoned about Christopher’s foray to Scores. What’s the fantasy exactly? Because I’m pretty sure it doesn’t involve pretending to mambo with some long-haired, glaze-eyed Delta Tau alum on his lunch break from Deloitte & Touche.

'The Big Bang Theory' season finale recap: Sheldon possibly finds a perfect mate, and she's Blossom

Big-Bang-Theory-finaleImage Credit: Sonja Flemming/CBSIt’s strange, fellow Big Bang theorists, but I find myself with not much to say about last night’s season finale, since pretty much everything in it that mattered occurred in the final three minutes. In short: Leonard was bummed to see Penny dating a dim bulb who thought the Big Bang boys’ experiment to bounce a laser off of the moon meant they wanted to blow it up. (Sheldon, oddly trenchant as ever, boiled down the dim bulb’s appeal thusly: “He must be very skilled at coitus.”) Howard suggested Leonard play the field himself by using a fancy online dating service, but then Raj thought it’d be better if they’d submit Sheldon to the site instead. Miraculously, they got a match. And she turned out to be Blossom. READ FULL STORY »

Chris Harrison blogs 'The Bachelorette' season premiere

Chris-HarrisonImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCI want to start off this blog — and this season — with a big “Thank You!” This is our 20th season of The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise. It’s a remarkable accomplishment in this day and age of television, and on behalf of the hundreds of people who make this show happen each and every year, I’ll say it again: Thank you. Making this show is much more than a job for all of us; it’s a passion and a labor of love. While this show has evolved with the times over the last eight years, it really hasn’t ever changed or wavered from its roots. It’s still really about that one thing we hope to achieve and find in our lives: love.

Watching the recap of Ali and Jake at the beginning of the first episode was a little strange. For some reason, that night at the Beverly Wilshire, when she chose her job over Jake, seems like years ago. I want to point out something very important that Ali mentioned several times throughout tonight’s episode, something that will play a huge part in and essentially shape this entire season: Ali is a vulnerable woman. Her biggest fear this season is that she will fall in love but not be loved back. This is a wild, tumultuous season for Ali. Unfortunately, her greatest fear is somewhat realized, and it’s something Ali had to face head-on and deal with. READ FULL STORY »

'10 Things I Hate About You' finale: Buddhist storylines, 'The Biggest Poser,' and other awesome things that make us hate this show's cancellation

10-Things-Hate-showImage Credit: ABC Family10 Things I Hate About You wrapped up its under-appreciated one-season run on ABC Family last night, and, quite frankly, I don’t know what went wrong here. The dialogue snapped, the plotlines crackled, and the characters popped — not easy to do in the tired high-school genre. It had the name recognition of the beloved Julia Stiles/Heath Ledger movie but didn’t get bogged down in its legacy. The cast — Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, dad Larry Miller — couldn’t have been better. I know, I know, these things happen to good shows all the time. I just want my eulogy to be complete. READ FULL STORY »

'Bachelorette' premiere instant reaction: Loving love for 'the right reasons'

Filed under: Reality TV and tagged: , ,

Ali-BacheloretteImage Credit: Rick Rowell/ABCTonight we learned, mostly, that love is important and Ali was a horrible, stupid person for ever thinking otherwise and she’s awfully lucky that The Bachelor/Bachelorette is so darn forgiving because seriously, love conquers all, and if you don’t think so, you better reprioritize your life. Like she did. Because she is good and right and true now.

Oh, also: She quit her job for this, so anyone who isn’t there for “the right reasons” is in big, big trouble. That means you, Professional Wrestler Guy, Weatherman, and Dude with McDreamy Hair. The full recap, complete with detailed analysis of the standouts (and the just-plain-weirdos), will be up soon, but if you’ve already watched and want to weigh in on how the first batch of roses fell, read on after the jump for more. [SPOILER ALERT: Read on only if you've already watched Monday's Bachelorette premiere.]

Britney Spears has more Twitter followers than Ashton Kutcher.

Apparently, more people care about Britney Spears‘ love for ice cream than Ashton Kutcher‘s sleep schedule: The pop star has officially attracted more followers than the Twitter king himself. (The not-so-final score — Spears: 4,952,552; Kutcher: 4,945,544.) Ashton claims he’s not feeling down about being trumped by Spears — the actor tweeted a response while at a press junket for his upcoming film, The Killers: “2nd most pop Q ‘What do U think about Brittney having more followers than u?’ Answer ‘I don’t care. Aren’t u suppose 2B a movie reporter?’”

Here’s my question: How does one answer questions at a press junket with his head in his phone?

'Celebrity Apprentice' has some hidden gems, too

After toiling for weeks as a lowly apprentice miner, Dalton Ross had become really jealous of my total domination over EW.com’s Hidden Gems Emporium. So he’s thrilled to call these two audience-based gems from last night’s Celebrity Apprentice finale to your attention: Bret’s father also insists on pairing formalwear with a trusty bandana, and another Bret enthusiast has crazy Kid ‘N Play hair.

Which gem is of greater value, appraisers? I have to go with Adult ‘N Play. The coif is so teased and airy that a few inches on top have taken on a light purple haze. Add the element of his roots to that, and his entire essence becomes that of Neapolitan ice cream. A rare treat!

Dalton’s recap: Bret is back! Is he a winner?
