Image Credit: FoxThe end of another TV season is coming. Admit it, after giving your DVR a serious workout this month, you’re actually looking forward to carrying a lighter load. (For at least a week: Royal Pains and Burn Notice return June 3, which officially kicks off “Summer TV” in my world.) You could spend your additional free time “outside,” but we all know that summer is also TV on DVD season. So what’s on your list this year — and why?
Mine:
• Revisiting Ally McBeal, beginning with Season 1: It’ll pair nicely with Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, which returns June 6. Plus, I feel like I could really benefit right now from being reminded that there are women who are more unglued than me.
• Revisiting Murphy Brown, season 1: Because I also need to be reminded that there are women who have themselves together.
• Battlestar Galactica, season 1: Sci-fi feels like a vacation to me because I don’t indulge often enough. I also occasionally enjoy becoming obsessed with things after everyone else has moved on — partly because I can do marathons, partly because I can tune out the chatter and like or dislike whatever I want to.
Your list?

LOST, Breaking Bad, and Band of Brothers.
I’m halfway through season 2 of Lost in my attempt to rewatch the entire series (:
I’m halfway through season 1 for the 4th time.
Same, Michael!
We’re waiting until the whole boxed set comes out. I’m kind of excited for Parenthood to get released on DVD, because I watched the first episode and loved it, and then for some unknown reason, I stopped watching. I’m looking forward to catching up, as I’ve heard it was terrific.
FRINGE
I hear you Tricia, after every season I would go and buy the previous season and watch it completly right before the upcoming season. Now that its all over I am waiting for August to watch all seasons back to back. That plus the fact I got all my friends hooked on it and they’ve all borrowed my seasons and probably won’t see them for a couple of months.
With so many shows out there, wouldn’t it be better to watch something you haven’t seen? I’m thinking of waiting 5 years before I watch Lost again. What with absence making the heart grow fonder and whatnot…
I totally agree. Sort of. I’m waiting til the big boxed set comes out, and then my husband and I are gonna share with our kids the best series of all time. They both watched the finale with us, and my son watched most of the 6th season with me, and they’re really excited to watch the whole series.
Buffy the vampire slayer season 1-7 then angel seasons 1-5
I am currently on season 4 of buffy
and may I just say Willow and spike scenes HILARIOUS
Family Guy & The Office, and if Archer ever goes to DVD, I’ll get that too!
I am also watching buffy and angel.
I have to go back and forth between the two because of the crossovers
if this was facebook this would say like
It’s ALWAYS a good time for Buffy DVDs, those are probably my most watched set, and then I hit up the Veronica Mars ones.
Buffy is always my “hubby is deployed” tradition. Every time he deploys, we pull it out and watch it all the way through. Then we do the Gilmore Girls. They are the shows he isn’t willing to watch, so we get to watch them on the big tv when he is gone.
Sheli, God bless you and your husband for the sacrifices you make for our country!
Also to Sheli- thank you and your family and God Bless all of you. You will be in my prayers. P.S. You have awesome taste in shows! Follow up Gilmore Girls with Veronica Mars and you won’t be disappointed.
Shell, I hear you. My husband’s deployed right now and it’s a tradition at our house too! I’ll watch Buffy & Angel first then fill out the rest of the time with other great shows he hates!
Attention: Everyone here! The best show on DVD that you’ve probably never seen is “Better Off Ted”. It’s only two seasons long, well worth the investment. Totally hilarious send up of corporate/cubicle life. And no, I don’t work for the production company or any of the actors. Seriously, best show since Arrested Development. Check it out!
Agreed! This is one of the funniest shows I have ever watched. (And is definitely worth seeing again.)
Yes! BETTER OFF TED is hilarious and it’s a crying shame that ABC never treated it right and gave it a real chance. I just bought Season One at Target for just $9.99 today – what a deal. Can’t wait for S2 to come out.
Yes, agree, I am just finishing Better Off Ted, Season 1, very funny! Great writing. I can however see why it might not have gotten a maintstream audience or made it past two seasons.
I usually get TV series DVDs from the library, but Better Off Ted I want to own. The way ABC treated Ted makes me reluctant to invest my time and heart in any of their new shows in the fall.
Yes! Better off Ted is definitely on my To Buy list. It’s a riot! Also Fringe, and BSG, and finally catching up on four seasons of Lost…
I forsee myself going to target on my way home to pick up Better Off Ted. It wasn’t until Family Guy was selling out on DVD that Fox realized their huge mistake of cancelling it.
Yeah Breaking Bad here as well. I’ve had so many people tell me I have to watch that show. Plus I know I’ll be rewatching Lost for the 4th time.
I wonder when Modern Family comes out on DVD.
Family is coming Sept.28 from what I hear.
I have too much on my list, and I don’t know which ones I will get to: Mad Men: Season 2, Battlestar Galactica: Season 2, Dexter: Season 4 (once it comes out on DVD!). There is also Breaking Bad, True Blood, among others. There is just too much good TV!
I’m dying for Dexter S4 to come out on DVD too! Anyone know when? I only started watching the series 2 weeks before S4 ended (I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, so I rented S1-3 and was totally addicted) so I haven’t seen ANY of S4 yet.
Probably August right before season 5 starts in September,. You won’t be disappointed in the absolutely brilliant season 4. Best season yet of TV’s best show.
I subscribed to Showtime so I could watch Season 4! A friend hooked me on the show and we bought Seasons 1-3 on DVD. That’s all I watch on Showtime – wish I could pay per view just Dexter!!!
Dexter season 4 comes out on August 17, 2010 (tentatively). You can pre-order it on Amazon.
I’ll be watching Sons of Anarchy, season 1, re-watching Firefly, and waiting on the Lost complete set on August 24, 2010.
@Lost in Ohio, you can buy each episode on iTunes. Not sure if they are posted as they air but it would probably be cheaper than subscribing.
Dexter season 4 is the best yet! I will probably watch it all the way through all over again. Enjoy
If you like Michael C. Hall, you should check out Six Feet Under, the show he did before Dexter. THAT SHOW CHANGED MY LIFE!!
True Blood just bought the first 2 seasons, I have never seen it, and feel like I missed the Party!… also the old sitcom “Newsradio” because I need a good laugh, and Phil Hartman and Co. never dissapoints!
newsradio is awesome! love that show. actually watched some episodes from my dvds yesterday lol. love it!
yes it should have been a bigger hit!…did you ever see a show called “Action!” with Jay Mohr..funniest thing I ever saw on TV so of course it was canceled like after 12 episodes!
nope never saw that show. is it similer to newsradio?
just as funny!
Burn Notice Season 3 comes out tomorrow! I need to catch up before season 4 starts on Thursday night.
Lost complete series (blu-ray), Fringe season 2, Deadwood season 3
I’m going to be catching up on Mad Men, Big Love, True Blood, and Weeds. As far as shows I’ll be revisiting – Alias!
You have excellent, excellent taste in shows!
I LOVE Alias and I re-watching it right now!
i am right there with you on Alias. that show never gets old.
My mom and I are rewatching it right now…almost to the end of season 2! Can’t wait for the awesome finale
Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series Boxset. I started watching the show as it was coming to the end on the SciFi (SyFy) channel and got hooked and have loved it ever since. Particularly love the characters of Boomer/Athena and Helo!.
BEST SHOW EVAH!!!
I’m going to buy Fringe Season 2 on DVD and watch the whole thing after I’m done watching Fringe Season 1, and I will NOT go outside
Yeah! Outside is for losers! Except for outdoor concerts! GREEN DAY IN MONTREAL HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chuck S3 (whenever it comes out), Burn Notice S3, Psych S4, and if I had the money, all the seasons of 30 Rock because even though I adore that show, I have yet to buy the DVDs.
Re-Watching Daria, Then also re-watching season 7 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
I think this is going to be my viewing as well. Great suggestion!
thirtysomething – there are three or four seasons out on DVD.
Great choice, loved it on its original run!
I plan to raise the money to buy:
Lost: The Complete Sixth Season.
Fringe: Seasons One and Two.
Community: The Complete First Season.
I know that there’s a complete LOST box set, but I’ve already got the first five seasons.
Yeah, same. There will probably be a bunch of extra stuff with the complete set, but we already have the first five seasons.
Would be nice to trade my season 1-5 for complete series when you buy season 6- a guy can dream.
Modern Family and Glee complete first seasons also on my list.
Is Community on DVD yet? Brilliant show; can’t wait for those DVDs.
burn notice!! and bbc robin hood season 3
Rewatching the compete series of LOST and Daria (a staple of my youth).
The complete 3 seasons of “Slings & Arrows” – great series with Paul Gross.
yes! I keep meaning to watch Slings and Arrows again. It sucks that so few people have ever heard of it.
Thanks for the tip. It looks great and I will have to get it.
“Slings & Arrows” is so delightfully twisted. I watched season one right after it first aired (in Canada) and all three seasons have been on my wishlist for years, but so far, no one’s gotten them for me.
I agree. Slings and Arrows was one of the best shows ever. Only 18 episodes, but a gem!
