More American Idol

Paula Abdul reportedly joining CBS' 'Got to Dance'; let's hope it resembles her 'Cold Hearted' video

paula-abdulShe clearly hasn’t been in a “Rush, Rush” to return to television since leaving American Idol at the end of its eighth season, but Paula Abdul has confirmed today that she will join CBS’ upcoming reality series Got to Dance. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Abdul will serve as the lead judge, executive producer, creative partner, mentor and coach” (that’s a lot of titles!) on the U.S. edition of Got to Dance, which is based on a hit British competition that allows viewers to vote for hoofers from a variety of age groups and dance genres.

Now while I’m not the biggest fan of Paula Abdul: Reality Judge/VH1 Divas host, I would be telling a hideously big lie if I said I wasn’t a long-time connoisseur of The Lady Abdul’s dance moves — from her work on Janet Jackson’s “Nasty” all the way to her “Crazy Cool” pole-dancing/bull-riding shenanigans. I mean, who among us didn’t spend the entire fall of 1989 glued to the TV set, waiting for MTV to play the sizzling clip for “Cold Hearted“? So the idea of Paula getting back to what Paula does best certainly holds some appeal, even if I’m still not convinced that the woman benefits from a live TV format that doesn’t involve detailed cue cards and/or a dead mic.

What’s extra intriguing is that the Hollywood Reporter mentions the possibility of CBS adding Got to Dance to its lineup in early 2011 — around the same time Idol will return for its tenth season (sans Simon Cowell). Imagine the deafening buzz from these shows being scheduled against each other? If you had to make a choice between the two, which would it be? Sound off by taking our poll below!

not enough dance shows! more the merrier and come on paula :D she beats the whole judging panel (without cowel) on idol

If she chose this over X-Factor she made a BIG mistake!! DWTS is a big hit while SYTYCD is not which leads me to believe that the lack of star power in a dance show = non-hit. Sorry Paula, bad bad move.

  • Leigh

    She can still do AXF…

  • Lauren

I like Paula, but would rather watch a singing competition than a dancing one. I was hoping she would be on the X-Factor.

    Is that picture photoshopped??

    • MartinaKaye

      lol NO!

She better do the X-Factor. She is the perfect judge for it. I mean, c’mon, if Cheryl Cole and Danni Minogue qualify as judges on X-Factor(UK) Paula’s resume blows them out of the park (The X-Factor incorporates dancing and intricate stage choreography with big sets and all with singing).

The odds are she’ll still be doing AXF. It probably took her and CBS so long because they had to work out a clause about her being on both networks. So lets calm down and be happy about the news. Paula will more than likely still be doing AXF

  • hey
