Megan Fox not in 'Transformers 3': Good or bad for her career?

megan-foxImage Credit: Vera Anderson/WireImage.comAh, Megan. I guess, in some way, we all knew the day would come when you’d part with the Transformers franchise. You’re an actress. You need to grow! To run free! To emote opposite actual human beings instead of tennis balls that will later be CG’d into skyscraper-size robots! It’s only natural. And yet, it seems like just yesterday you were leaning over the hood of that car in your jean skirt, sending a nation of fanboys into momentary hormone-induced comas.

So, on this bittersweet occasion, we’ll simply throw the question out to our loyal PopWatchers: Is Megan Fox’s career damaged by her exit from the Transformers series, or does it clear the way for better opportunities? Sure, those movies launched her career into hyperspace and gave her a nice cushion to fall back on when side projects (How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, Jennifer’s Body) didn’t quite pop at the box office. But if her goal is to show everyone she has A-list acting chops, Transformers hasn’t exactly given her much to do, and this could be her chance to break away from the eye-candy roles that have dominated her resume so far.

What do you guys think? Vote in our poll below, and then sound off in the comments!

Where’s the “she’ll go on to star in many, many….porn movies” option?

    • Jelana

      funny

    • Lisa Simpson

I cast my vote for this.

    • Ben42

porn doesn’t want anything to do with her…

      • kevin

agreed. porn stars need to have nice thumbs.

      • Gabby

What does nice thumbs have to do with porn? Unless you have “thumb up butt” fetish, ???

  • Sara

How long can a career based on being a publicity machine really last.

    • Tunder

      errr… just think Paris Hilton

      • Bob Saget

Umm Paris Hilton IS OFF THE MAP NOW…no one talks about her that was yaers ago.Sara is tottally right

      • Sara

And I guess I mean a legit movie career. The Hottie & The Nottie, House of Wax and One Night in Paris hardly qualify.

  • Ceballos

Putting all the obvious jokes about her now being free to do soft-core porn aside, I just don’t see how this can be good for her career.

From what I’ve seen, Fox isn’t some promising young serious actress that has been looking to stretch, but has been held back by the “Transformers” shackles. I know some people enjoyed her in “Jennifer’s Body” (I haven’t seen it), but there’s absolutely no reason why she couldn’t keep doing movies like “Body” while continuing to appear in the “Transformers” franchise. I mean, are casting directors REALLY going to offer her the title role in “Anna Karenina” because she dropped “Transformers.”

Potentially more damaging to her career is the perception that she might throw her directors under the bus in the quest to say something provocative during magazine interviews, like she apparently did with Michael Bay.

    • yes!

smartly and objectively put. and right on the money in my book.

    • Jake

      I think you’re right.

    • Shiny

Sadly the only reason she was cast in Jennifer’s Body is because she was “hot.” Now she’s not, and there are an army of prettier girls with more talent revving their engines behind her while she preens for the cameras.

Being the It Girl in a big action vehicle worked wonders for Sandra Bullock, Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry and Angelina Jolie. But Fox doesn’t have the acting chops to back up the opportunities she’s been given. She went from rap video babe to a huge franchise, she dropped out of high school and she has no talent to speak of other than reading cue cards.

    • Rick

Talk about a double standard, Shia LaBeouf has trashed the recent Transformers and Indiana Jones sequels yet he’s still getting renewed.

  • Rahul

This is great news. Now her career will plummet. In a year she won’t be able to get a job, except to pose sluttily in Maxim.

  • Celia

Why does EW keep writing about this?? I mean it was funny the first time I read it. It was funny the second time, but now I’m sick of it.
She didn’t have much of a career when she was in Transformers. I have a feeling that trend will continue, especially after seeing the trailer for Jonah Hex. I cringed everytime she opened her mouth.

    • Miss Talk

EW, Maxim and Rolling Stones are to blame for overrating Megan Fox. She “supposedly” dropped from Transformers 3 and you people have written three different reviews about that! And that’s exactly the reason why I didn’t see “Jennifer’s body”; EW, you fed me up!
Nevertheless, I’ll answer your question… What career does she have anyway? If her pla

      • Miss Talk

        oopsie sorry people ^^

    • Miss Talk

EW, Maxim and Rolling Stone are to blame for overrating Megan Fox. She “supposedly” dropped from Transformers 3 and you people have written three different reviews already about that! And that’s exactly the reason why I didn’t watch “Jennifer’s body”; EW, you fed me up!
Nevertheless, I’ll answer your question… What career does she have anyway? Didn’t Mickey Rourke say she sucks? Anyway, if her plan is to become an A-list actress, then that’s a pretty bad move. Georges Clooney didn’t give her the memo: “Ocean’s twelve for the money, Michael Clayton for the critical acclaim”. Those good looks won’t last forever, take the money while you still can, girlfriend.

  • Jay

Without CGI magic backing her up, she will fall off the map.
Her acting chops are simply non-existent.

    …she’s still hot, though.

  • dmac2498

The first step towards making this movie good. Now if they just reduce Shia to a cameo, this just might make me want to see this next installment.

    • Karen

Don’t you dare talk about Shia!!!!!!!

      • yes!

why not? i think he was just miscast in this role. not his type of movie. he should go back to playing gritty stuff where he can act like a badass wiseass kid and emote all dramatic like. action doesn’t really work for him.

      • Liz

I agree with Yes! I love Shia when he’s actually acting. He’s got a great career ahead of him and I look forward to all of his future work.

      • Loree

You keep it up now, undesrtnad? Really good to know.

  • KingElroy

the bimbo talked herself out of a job. the ditz doesn’t understand that you don’t bite the hand that feeds you. next up for megan fox, straight to video schlock and perhaps some dinner theater. then it’s back to the strip clubs for her!

  • laura

She has no career. Never had it in the first place so she won’t lose anything.

    • Diane

Hot teen in a bad sitcom, Lindsay Lohan’s rival, bad horror and the Transformers. Her career certainly isn’t going to be hot after this

  • Zooter

People really think “Transformers 3″ is good for her? Since when did appearing in the third movie of a REALLY tired movie franchise actually help anybody? It’s a big payoff, sure, but it just makes them look foolish and desperate.

    • John

but Brendan Fraser being in Mummy 3 led him to Furry Vengeance

      • Louise

        Good one!

    • Diane

Tranformers 2 was a top 10 grossing films of all times. Generally that is considered good for your career

      • yes!

actually it’s considered good for your wallet. not necessarily your career!

  • Tom

    She has a career?

  • Tim

I think the real question is will the absence of Fox hurt the Transfomer frachise? Regardless of what you think of her acting skills she definately added something sexy to the Transformer movies. She will be missed.

    • orville

Good point, but I think more people went to see it “‘cuz stuff blows up real good” than because she looks good in tight clothes while running away (in slow motion) from those explosions.

It’s too bad that she doesn’t realize that movies like this are her wheelhouse–she could ride the “doesn’t really have to act because of CGI” train for at least another 10 years.

But since acting clearly isn’t her forte, she can go back to Maxim and FHM photoshoots until the airbrushing won’t even help anymore.

      • jt

we want to see transformers “cuz things blow up” and we get a cheap peek at megan’s goods. Problem for her is if she ain’t in the next one, we still get to see things blow up and get our cheap thrills from the next hottie the put in the movies. Doesn’t she realize there are a million hotties that can step in and take her place? We don’t really care who the hottie is either. She’s made herself really unattractive based on the way she conduct herself on those interviews. She comes off as petty and ungrateful, and a little self centered. Don’t you guys/gals agree?

  • PeterBilt

Once again, this site is filled with fruitbaskets who only care about Gaga and Glee. So of course they are gonna hate on an attractive woman.

    • well. no.

few people deny she’s attractive. (though that last magazine cover she did, i was actually surprised that she really didn’t look that pretty). i think what most people are saying is that she’s JUST that. nothing more substantive there- at least as an actor. they’re not hating, just getting sick of having to listen and hear about an overhyped piece of eye candy. you think she’s hot? fine. but put her in the SI swimsuit edition, not in any movie i want to see.

  • hf

The Transformers movies should hurt the careers of all involved with them. But That doesn’t seem to be the case, but leaving that pile of garbage behind has earned her cool points with me. Of course, I’m not a Hollywood producer, so who knows what her career will look like. I think back in ’99 or 2000, when Angelina Jolie was running around making out with her brother, wearing viles of blood around her neck, nobody thought she would be the polished and respected actress she is today.

    • Ceballos

People keep comparing her to Angelina, but the difference is that, though Angelina WAS running around with a vial of blood around her neck and making out with her brother back in 2000, Angelina had also won an Oscar, three Golden Globes and two SAG awards.

Megan Fox has a Teen’s Choice Award.

      • mari

yep. people seem to forget that even back then critics were aware of angelina’s acting chops (hence the accolades).

      • hf

I wasn’t comparing her to Angelina Jolie, I was using Angelina Jolie as an example, there is a huge difference. Gary Busey won an oscar, and he was a joke in the industry not long after that. My obvious point was that you never know, maybe she will surprise everybody, and maybe she will be starring in direct to video flicks.

      • Ceballos

        hf-

Ok, I misunderstood what you were saying (I just saw “Angelina” and assumed you were making the comparison, since that’s what people seem to want to do) and you’re right never know about people.

However, if I had to bet on Fox’s future, I’d have to lean toward the direct-to-video category since I haven’t really seen anything to suggest she could have any sort of sustainable career.

    • orville

Ceballos was correct in saying that the Angelina comparison was inaccurate (she had been nominated for two Emmys and had won two Golden Globes before nearly anyone had heard her name).

Perhaps a better comparison would have been Tom Hanks back in the Bosom Buddies days. That guy a multiple Oscar winner? Robin Williams during the Mork years for that matter. Or Charlize Theron back when she was doing her sex kitten thing when she first arrived in Hollywood.

    • Dina

You got to push it—this eesnstial info that is!

  • sean

A hot chick can be replaced with 100s of other hot chicks, so more man like me watch the movie with more excitement. Feed the hornies.

Bad actress can rune the good movie.
Good actress can make bad movie go BOOM.
    Smart move by miachael bay.

    • Sara

While reading this comment in my head, I used a caveman voice.

      • Ajay C.

        @ Sara….that’s hilarious
