Craig Kilborn will host Fox syndicated series 'The Kilborn File,' wants to get it on with his mom

Filed under: News, Television and tagged:

It’s official: Former Daily Show and CBS’ Late Late Show host Craig Kilborn will return to TV in a half-hour syndicated series for Fox. The Kilborn File will air at 6:30, 7, 7:30, or 10 p.m. depending on where you live. Kilborn wrote in a statement: “Mom, I’m home…The last few years of triathlons and charity work have been fulfilling, but fulfillment is overrated. Let’s get it on.” The show will feature a rotating panel of celebrity guests and “5 Questions.” So I should ask five questions, too.

1) Doesn’t The Kilborn File sound a little too much in both style and substance like The Colbert Report?
2) Even if you’re a big Craig Kilborn fan, do you think you’ll be able to fit this in?
3) I mean who has the time?
4) You know? And most important…
5) WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR SIMPSONS AND SEINFELD RERUNS? Oh. My. God.

I know the joke has been made before, but I really am excited for the guy who takes over this show in a few years.

(Maybe the reason Kilborn put his name in the title is to try to counteract someone coming in and taking a show of his to the strathosphere.)

I feel like a bit of a douche cuz I saw “Craig” and “Late Late Show” and automatically thought of Craig Ferguson. Sorry Kilborn! Nothing personal!

  • when you leave two shows and they get 100x better than they were when you were there, maybe it’s time to stop trying.

    • Yes

You hit the nail on the head there…

Jon Stewart’s Daily show changed from a humorous timely show to a left-wing, force-fed liberal mess of pseudo-political BS.. and I’m a registered democrat!

IMO, the show was much more watchable when Kilborn was simply having fun and not trying to shove political views down people’s throats.

Couldn’t agree with you more, Dave. Kilborn’s Daily Show was hilarious! Jon Stewart actually thinks he’s providing a service.

While its true, Stewart’s Daily Show gets better ratings than its predecessor. That only shows there are more idiots watching TV than Kilby fans.

We’ll at least he’ll have one viewer.

        AMEN

  • LOL

Welcome back, Kilby! TV has sucked without you.

  • Whoopie

I will be watching…..it will be better than reruns and gossip shows! I missed him…..any idea where he is going to be basing his show from? Will he be in LA?

I guess I’m one of the few people who liked ‘The Daily Show’ better when he was the host. This sounds like he’s going back to that, so I’m excited about it!

Honestly I really don’t even think that as the Daily Show. Since Craiggers took the show’s most entertaining bit (5 questions)with him to the Late Late Show the shows couldn’t have been more different. Jon Stewart turned it into a comedy-news show, Kilby wanted to be a talk guy.

I also liked it better with Craig as the host. He actually makes me laugh. Jon Stewart doesn’t make me laugh. As I remember it, the Daily Show with Craig was more about being funny. With Jon, it has become more political.

      • Dave

You are 100% correct. The daily show became unwatchable over 5 years ago.

I don’t get the Daily Show now. I don’t find Stewart funny at all. He makes lots of valid jabs at the right but the jokes are so obvious and the truth is not all that funny the way he delivers it. I guess his style is an acquired taste. The writers are good and clever but when I watch I rarely LOL.

I loved Kilborn on the Late Late Show and I enjoy Ferguson on it now too but they are 2 completely different shows. I’m glad Kilborn is back, he’s the coolest.

I have 2 questions for Craig Kilborn. What happened at ESPN? What happened at KCBA?

  • DavidJ

I’ll give him a chance. I only vaguely remember his old shows, but I liked him well enough.

Besides, one can NEVER get enough snark. :P

  • had to ask

I wonder how many women he will sexually harass on his new show?

“2) Even if you’re a big Craig Kilborn fan, do you think you’ll be able to fit this in?”
Response: Craig left the Late Late Show on CBS suddenly in 2004 with no apparent motives other then boredom or laziness. Craig was the original host of The Daily Show. What’s wrong with that? Based on Craig’s tenure at “The Daily Show” he was handpicked by David Letterman to host “The Late Late Show”, on right after “The Late Show With David Letterman”, and produced by “WorldWide Pants”, Letterman’s production company. Craig competed against Conan O’Brien for ratings, with both shows targeting the same demographic. Consider O’Brien was just coming into his own as a host in 1999, the year Kilborn first aired against him on CBS. The Daily Show preceded Craig’s move to a 12:30 spot on CBS. It will likely precede Jon Stewart’s move to the 11:30 spot to whatever network he wants. I will have to see the new show, but anyone who thinks of themselves as “a big Craig Kilborn fan” will be very eager to catch his new show. Here’s that question, rephrased to where it makes sense. Will Craig’s roughly 6 year television sabbatical hurt or boost ratings?
Now there’s the question of an informed blogger.

    @guy above my last post

Not entirely sure, do know the over/under on interns first month is 7 and a half.

  • D

Hmm. Don’t really get the mother joke. I liked him well enough on CBS but never saw him on the daily show.

Welcome Baby!! I love this news!!

  • Elizabeth

I’ll always make room for Craiggers.

In my little, insignificant opinion: back when he hosted The Daily Show there wasn’t a need so much to scrutinize the “serious” news and how it is presented. There wasn’t a need to continually call out the networks, cable and free, on how they feed into all the BS and spin. It was a different time, so bagging on Craig seems a little pointless to me.

  • DK

I LOVE Craig Kilborn. I will definitely be watching (or DVR-ing, depending on the time slot) this one!
