There should be a moratorium in Hollywood that no film ever starring Audrey Hepburn will ever be re-made ever again!

Can Carey Mulligan sing? Then she’d be fine. If not, how about Anne Hathaway, who did a terrific Julie Andrews impression on “SNL”? The make-or-break part is Higgins, and he should be played by Hugh Laurie, who would be fantastic.

I was thinking exactly the same thing…Laurie would be perfect for Higgins. And they could re-unite him with Stephen Fry as Pickering! Don’t know if Mulligan can sing, but check out Knightley’s warbling in EDGE OF LOVE…quite a pleasant surprise for a D.O.A. film.

A remake of My Fair Lady completely dumfounds me. Why remake a musical that has already had a solid film adaptation? Why not focus on musicals that got awful film treatments (A Chorus Line, Camelot, Little Night Music) or shows that have never been filmed (Les Miserables, Follies). Why waste time, money and talent on a project that will most likely be a pale imitation of its predecessor?

You won’t like this reply…..My Fair Lady ’64 did not use locations. Also, Hephburn’s use of british accents are not strong. Yes, Van Dyke is much worse in Mary Poppins, but still, it really effects the finished product.

Just Remember, once upon a time, there was only a play called Pigmallion.

I love the original MFL, but I never bought the fact that Henry Higgins, as portrayed by Rex Harrison, actually liked Eliza–or any female! Do a remake and give Henry and Eliza actual chemistry and it will work for me.

No i believe keira would be the best-like Audrey she has looks and talent (umm pride and prejudice, atonement, the duchess anyone?)

Carey Mulligan is perfect for Eliza Doolittle.

I am firmly anti-remake. What is this need of Hollywood to remake anything that did well? When I show my daughters “My Fair Lady,” it won’t be the new version.

  • jonas

I vote keira-she’s perfect for the role.

  • casey

Yeah i agree, i can only see keira playing eliza doolittle.

  • kyle

Keira Knightley should definatley be given the lead. She’s proven that she’s a great actress in movies such as pride and prejudice as well as atonement. She can sing as well for those who have ever seen the edge of love keira knightley has a rather brilliant singing voice. Plus keria looks like audrey hepburn. i just feel carey mulligan would be laughable in the role.

What about the girl in “Phantom of the Opera”? We all know she has range. I forgot her name… Emmy Rossum! She would have to really stretch her acting abilities though. Of the two, I would pick Knightley though, only based on her depiction of Elizabeth Bennet!!

Do not forget the lovely songs that carry this musical.
This time with the background from London. The most
important to renew MFL would be to make even better dialogs if possible. The better they are the greater the impact. The bird from Avon – the master of ” two liners”. The whole world can thank him every day for it. We all borrow from him. Make a few lines like his an it is already worth a remake.
” Just recite a few lines from Othello – and they think you`re a Hell of a fellow”. Keira Knightley, Daniel Day-Lewis, Geoffrey Hugdes… Joe Wright

Forgot Time Rice for the dialogs.
    I don`t live the good life,Sir – I live the satisfied life!

  • kyle

keira knightley looks like audrey and is way more beautiful than carey mulligan and plus mulligan is to young its a role ment to be played by a woman not a little girl. hello did anyone see atonement. AMAZING

  • nick

i don’t want to sound shallow but a lot of the greatness that audrey hepburn brought to that role was her elegance and beauty and i just feel that carey wouldn’t be able to bring that as much as keira.
