Lunchtime Poll: Should Sandra have torched Russell's gross little hat?

I realize this is possibly my most rhetorical poll to date, but I just want to see if ANYONE will vote in Russell’s favor. I mean, yes, that hat was EWWW.com, but it could have had sentimental value on the off chance that Russell had ever developed feelings….

Here is what you should have asked.

Do you think Russell would have grabbed the JT letter out of the fire?

Or is eBay worth getting burned? :-)

JT lost some credibility with me when he tried to burn that letter. More of the same sour grapes he and the other heroes voted with. You wrote it, live with it, JT! I think Russell’s camp sabotage was deliberate and served a purpose. He shared his insight and strategy with America when he did those things. Sandra torched his hat out of spite and again shows she isn’t a tactician of any sort or even in the same league. No strategy. No game. Do as little as possible and win it all? She’s just lucky that a popularity contest decides the winner and that it isn’t based on gameplay or someone who hasn’t won a challenge in either of her 2 seasons wouldn’t be very happy. At minimum, Russell has been great for Survivor’s ratings. As a matter of fact, I don’t even think that Rupert “almost beat” Russell in the 100K contest as was said on the Early Show. I would bet that Russell is such a polarizing figure that people were voting for him or against him and that a huge portion of Rupert’s votes were votes against Russell. Russell-haters need to face the reality that the last two seasons of Survivor have been dominated by Russell. He’s going to be remembered as one of the greatest players to play the game and his hat deserved to live!

I’m a big fan of Russell, but I completely disagree that Sandra had no strategy. Early on, she didn’t care what happened, so long as her name wasn’t written down. OK, that’s not much of a strategy, but when she was in trouble, she very quickly realized that all she had to do was tell Russell that Coach wanted him out, and Russell would get rid of coach instead. I’ve thought for several weeks that she could win if she got to the end. I had no doubt she’d win against Russell.

I didn’t think she could beat Parvati, who I think played the best game this season. She had great strategy and she’s got a great social game. Last season, Russell should have won, because the alternative was all social no strategy (other than coat tails). This season, it was clear he couldn’t win more than a month ago.

I’m surprised at the large yes vote, but I think people might be confused. If you thought the burning of the hat was great and you quickly read the title of the article: “Should Sandra have torched Russell’s hat?”, and go right to the poll and vote “yes” you missed that the poll reads “Did Russell’s hat deserve to live?” (to which you would have voted “no”).

    • Annie Barrett

Exactly. This was also a reading comprehension test. Surprise!

      • @Annie

By stating that you “just want to see if ANYONE will vote in Russell’s favor,” you may have skewed the results by essentially daring readers to vote in Russell’s favor. The internet is a magnet for contrarians… ;)

    • JennBell

Not confused. I’m a Russell fan, his hat should go on.

    • what?

the question is: Did Russell’s hat deserve to live?

  • Deo

I don’t like Sandra, but that was her best move ever. And I don’t even hate Russell.

  • jack hart

he burned another player’s socks last year and threw out fresh drinking water. its karma … love ya sandra …and congrads on the win (again)

  • sockgal

The poll needs to be clearer. Too confusingly written. I think she just burned it out of shear spite. It was an ugly thing to do and was not stategic to the game. All Russels moves: sock burning, water pouring, ect… were to shake the game up and get people out of the confort zone. His moves were very well played and he did them in secrecy from the rest of the tribe. Sondra just was disgusting in talking to Parvarti about the hat. She said some really hateful things! Not cool, and not about the game!!!

    • Al

Sandra may be the most hateful person ever on the show (apart from Randy). She never had anything nice to say and was often vindictive for no reason.

      • Sean S.

huh…what show were you watching. she said nice things to/or about Boston Rob, Candice, Danielle, Rupert, Colby, Jeff, Parvati. I am sure there’s more but I’m sure you’d still hate her, anyway.

      • DieRussell

Compared to Russell, Sandra is honey and roses

  • Staring

    It was funny.

But it would have been messed up if the hat would have belonged to/was a present from a dead relative

  • Phyllis

The biggest reason I think people watch “Survivor” is that people lie and cheat and treat each other like scum in an attempt to win the game. There’s no scoreboard so anyone deserves to win, whether they contribute or not. The survivors themselves cook their own gooses (actually they would probably like some cooked goose over peanut butter or anything they can scrounge around to eat!) Sometimes the nice guy wins, and sometimes not. When half of the participants are “villians” it opens the possibilities for even more hateful and crazy things to do.
Congrats to Sandra. It doesn’t matter how she won, but just that she did!

  • Dave

Whatever, it was one of the greatest moments on Survivor. Russel deserved it. Now he knows how it feels to have your things taken and burned. I don’t buy his BS about it being “strategic”.

  • oderal

The Hat was an innocent bystander

  • RussellTheIdiot

Sandra should have disqualified for burning my hat. I deserved to win. That jury was so lame.
