The downside of being an actor is listening to dumb & asinine questions during interviews. I wonder if this same interviewer would question Sean Connery’s accent as being a bit Welsh.
That doesn’t make any sense, does it? Because Sean Connery is actually Scottish. Russell Crowe is Australian, so he’s putting on an accent for the film and it’s reasonable to think it might not sound completely accurate to the region he was going for – and if it doesn’t that Lawson is giving Crowe the benefit of the doubt and assuming that it was intentional. Sounds like he was being quite respectful to me.
What?? Why would ANYONE insult Mark Lawson? He’s lovely!
Good for him for walking out. The interviewer ignoring Crowe and pushing his agenda was out of line. The director & speach speech coaches gave ok to this great actor’s accent. I’ve seen literally hundreds of interviews and later read about the interview and it was misleading. I think celebrities should walk out when what they are saying is being ignored.Crowe respected himself.
What a surprise – NOT! If only Crowe was always acting, because he is a pretty good actor. But he has a lousy personality.
That’s crap! He got up and left because he didn’t like the line of questioning. He was supposed to be DOING HIS JOB! He gets paid MILLIONS of dollars to answer stupid questions. How many of us regular people get to walk off our jobs when the boss asks stupid questions or ignores our comments? Hands . . . anyone? He needs to learn the art acting like a decent human being. The movie called Robin Hood, not Russell Crow’s accent.
Criticism comes with the territory of being a professional actor.
Note to Russel Crowe: If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
What a freaking baby Russell Crowe is. I get asked harder questions at my 9 to 5 job every day. I’ll happily trade places (and salaries!) with this pampered idiot.
“bullocks”: A term Americans mistakenly use when they really mean to say “bollocks”.
Unlike most people repeating this ‘big’ story, I listened to the interview. Crowe may have gotten a little testy but Telegraph.uk columnist Andrew Young has even admitted some of Lawson’s questions were needling.
Listen, I’ve been watching Crowe do press for a solid month, since his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremoney in April. He’s flown from Oz to the US to Europe back to US back to Europe. I’ve seen and heard hundreds of these little video/audio interviews and this is the first one I’ve seen where he hasn’t absolutely been charming, witty, and in very good humor. The whole accent thing did seem to put him off with Lawson but he still answered all until the Gladiator question with thoughtful answers.
I’d suggest going to view or read about some of the hundreds of interviews Crowe has done in the past month before you continue the same old tired stories about him.
I’m always entertained when Americans are unable to distinguish between “bullocks” (cattle) and “bollocks” (balls/nonsense). Think about which one Crowe would use in this context and edit accordingly, you dolts.
The interviewer seemed uninterested in asking about the movie and more infatuated with drilling Russell Crowe about accents. R. Crowe was discussing Robin Hood’s character and interjecting some interesting bits about the lay-of-the-land politically and geographically…yet the interviewer could not rise above the trivial questions concerning accents. Then, when inquiring about another movie, unrelated to the movie, Robin Hood, Russell Crowe, rightly, ended the conversation. The interviewer was goading, much like a childhood bully would taunt his peers in the schoolyard. A little research would reveal that more actors than not were of a nationality and tongue not that of Mother England. Now, regarding the movie–It was great!
That interviewer was jerk. Glad Russell Crowe walked out on him when he got the chance!
really? people just need to stop dissen on russell crowe. hes an amazing actor. no1 can deny this. hes good at what he does. who really cares about him walking out on some stupid interview? i wouldnt be able to stand press and crap. if you had to deal with ppl like that all day wouldnt you be a jerk to ppl. i wouldnt be able to stand it. crowe is an amazing actor, ppl shouldnt really care what hes like they dnt know him. he might be f awesome or he might be a f douche. why do you guys care? as long as hes good at what he does (wich he is). so stop hatin
Mark Kermode knew what he was doing and tried to get a rise out of Russell Crowe. He pushed the Irish accent nonsence until he did get a reaction from Russell. I think he was probably looking for Russell to get violent for publicity for his show. I’m glad Russell just walked out. Why should he waste his valuable time with that kind of nonsense.
