Toni Collette reteams with 'Muriel's Wedding' director for more Aussie insanity

MURIELS-WEDDINGImage Credit: Everett CollectionToni Collette is reuniting with her Muriel’s Wedding director P.J. Hogan for the film Mental. Hogan, who wrote the script, tells Variety: “Like Muriel’s Wedding, Mental is a comedy, but a comedy based on reality, laced with pain and brimming with flawed but lovable characters. Shaz [the central character, who becomes the nanny to give girls] was hilarious, outrageous, dangerous, courageous, inspiring, heartbreaking and totally, totally mad. And she changed my life.”

When you have the director of Muriel’s Wedding calling you “totally, totally mad,” you must be quite a character. No wonder Collette signed on. To celebrate Hogan — who most recently directed Confessions of a Shopaholic and has kept the crazy relatively reined in since 2002’s Unconditional Loveagain unleashing it, watch Collette and Rachel Griffith’s “Waterloo” after the jump. PopWatch Dance Party! Gotta love the Aussies.

Muriel’s Wedding is pretty much Toni Collette’s best work (I know, she was good in Sixth Sense). Of course she’d work with him again – early and often!!

If you’ve never seen Japanese Story do yourself a favor and watch it. She’s heartbreaking and that movie will stay with you for a while.
