Now that you’ve had a few days to process the teaser trailer for Super 8, the top-secret collaboration between director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg, what are you thinking is inside that train car that’s derailed while on its way from Nevada’s Area 51 to a secure facility in Ohio in 1979 — and what will it do when it gets out? The $45 million movie, which Abrams will shoot this fall before moving on to Star Trek 2, is said to be an homage to the sci-fi films he loves as a teenager. Guesses? Go!

As someone who drove past Wright-Patt every day on her way to college (Go Raiders Go), I really hope they shoot some of the scenes down in Dayton, etc. I’m freaking out thinking about the tracks I used to drive over that ran along Airway Rd.

I wonder if “Super 8″ means that there are 8 super aliens (like Superman).
I really hope this is based on JJ’s Superman concept that was turned down a few years ago. I thought it was very creative. It was a total re-imagining of the Superman mythos. It’ doesn’t fit the DC vision of Superman – so it wasn’t a good fit. But in and of itself, it was brilliant – so I hope this is an extension of that idea.

Abrams is doing another ‘game’ for the movie. If you look at the film that flickers by in the trailer, it spells out, “scariest thing i ever saw,” which leads to scariestthingieversaw.com.
Can’t believe nobody recognized the obvious nod to Close Encounters with the yellow truck and railway crossing.
