'The View': Barbara Walters announces heart surgery

Filed under: News, Television and tagged: , ,

Barbara Walters will have surgery to replace one faulty heart valve, she announced on The View this morning. She’s known of her condition for months, and agreed with her doctors that with the summer coming up and the show’s August hiatus, this was the best time for her to have the surgery. The recovery process can be anywhere from a month to three months, she said, adding “I expect to be calling in from time to time….I love you all, and that’s my hot topic of this morning,” she said.

After the announcement, we can assume Elisabeth made a silent promise (pictured) to refrain from cracking “jokes” about the revealing nature of Babs’ hospital gowns.

YOU’RE KIDDING RIGHT? IF NOT, WHAT ARE YOU, 12?

Perhaps if they stopped focusing on this womans messed up heart so much and focused more on where Justin B. is and is he doing hairflips this website would get more views. *yawn* This artical is boring. =(

    She’s older than John McCain.

BFD; one of my best friend’s mother is having heart valve surgery this month; her third. I repeat; BFD.

    • Alia

Dude. It’s heart surgery on an elderly woman. It IS a BFD.

This woman paved the wave for our generation to do more for ourselves without having to do “favours”. This is a surgery and medical problem that is becoming more and more common. Did you know that Robin Williams also had his aortic valve replaced in 2009 only being 57? Most people that have an irregular heart beat get misdignosed and are born with it. So maybe some of us should be asking about our own health, particularly if it runs in your family. I understand for some generations Barbara is well like Barbara who and why should I care. She is not really known in my generation due to me only being 24. Come on though folks show some empathy for goodness sakes. By the way why would it be so vain of us to care about how someone’s hair is flipped? Really? Seriously? There is more to life than that. Invest in your self.

Barbara Walters is an icon who paved the way for the younger generation of women broadcasters. Now, everyone wants to throw her in the trash? Come on folks. She does well especially when she has to deal with folks like Elizabeth Foot-in-mouth.

Yes, all you young urban career women owe a lot to the generation that opened doors for you.

Can you imagine being told at 22 “You are an old maid, you better get married”?

Think about that before being snarky.

I’m sorry to hear that Ms. Walters has to undergo heart surgery. I’m praying that all will go well for her. In my opinion she looks fantastic for someone her age.

  • Barry

    She has a heart? LMAO!!

    • Stevex

Yes, and if you look at the photo accompanying this article, you’ll see a woman with no brain sitting next to Babs.

  • Annette

I cannot believe she is 80! Very few people live that long.

    • Daniell

Ack! Annette you must be, what, 15? I’m not insulting you, honestly, but, lots of people live to be 80. It’s probably not the norm (although life expectancy now hovers around 78-79), but, it’s quite common to live past 80.

She is an icon among journalists and she has done a great deal in terms of diplomacy over the years that she has interviewed heads of state. No need to become virtiolic or childish. If someone made cruel remarks about you or your mother, you would no doubt have a tantrum. I do not watch the View, nor have any interest in it. But, she is the only one on there worth anything. I wish we had more adult women’s programming and that isn’t it. Besides most of us work for a living, so no time or inclination for soap operas and/or any daytime programming. Let’s wish the grand dame of journalism well in her surgery, shall we?

  • Lee

Those of you with flip comments or unkind words…I will pray that you reach her age, as healthy as she is, with a mind as clear as hers, and looks to match. My bet is that you won’t….you are too negative.

  • John Dombrowski

Best wishes for her health, BUT…she COULD have been an important news reporter (look at who she has interviewed in her life) but instead she has taken the easier, sleazier route of sensationalizing the truly trivial crap that gets passed off as “news”. The same route that most other “reporters” have taken. What a waste.

Seems it wasn’t too long ago that James VanProag was on the View and told her she had health problems to look into, and she didn”t believe him..????

  • Aimzee

You’re right, Mary. However, being 80, the prediction didn’t seem so far-fetched. I hope Barbara does well with this surgery and has a quick recovery.

  • Valorie Walsh

Best Wishes to Barbara Walters with her upcoming surgery. My aunt had this surgery as well as 3 bypasses @ 84. Doing Great… Such surgery seems to be common enough today. Thoughts and prayers are with you at during this time.
