Was HArper appearing to losties in the jungle, chasing Faraday and Charlotte, a manifestation of Smokey?
ARe Smokey and Widmore working together? Was The Candidte a set up from the two of them?
There will never be anything like Lost again. I have enjoyed every second of it. The joy of it has only been topped by reading your columns Jeff, always great and always sent me to google to look things up. I have started following Fringe, maybe you could move to writing about it after Lost is done. PS I can’t find EW in this small town and this week especially it is killing me. I can’t believe you got to see the last scene. You live a charmed life!!
hurley is not limited to seeing island dead since he conversed with isabella and she did not die on the island.
I was wondering why I was so numb to the deaths of Sun, Jin, and yes, Sayid, when earlier I was striken at the deaths of Charlie, Libby, Ana Lucia and even Shannon. Perhaps subconsciously it is because there is now the possibility for another life in the sideways world or another alternate world.
Is it 9pm MT yet? Can hardly wait for tonight’s episode.
Unless Lapidus pops up out of the water somehow, his character was fairly worthless this season. He just followed the others around from group-to-group. I wonder if there’s a role for him still or if that was it?
I think it’s safe to assume that pregnancy issues were smokey’s fault. Infection is smokey’s fault. Killing a parent to become the leader is smokey’s idea. Maybe his leading the OTHERS falsely as some representation of jacob is also just a ploy (the pillar of black smoke was the indicator that the others were coming back in season 1) So, I assume that most bad things on the island are the result of smokey’s various attempts to shrink the population on the island to hurt people and deter them and to get what he wants… which is simply anihilation (hell, evil, benevolence). Smokey is, maybe and literally, Evil incarnate. Literally smokey is the light, the draw towards physical and tangible stuff, temptation for worldly and superficial happieness… and away from spiritual enlightenment. So his manifestations are just that, manifestations. The MiB we know as titus welliver is just smokey’s incarnation. Because Jacob did what he did to the Titus character… it become’s jacob’s version of temptation. the face of temptation… because that’s where jacob’s guilt would lie… in what he did to his brother.
So the questions of what the game is and why Jacob has power over it I am gonna attribute to faith and faith alone. He doesn’t see his brother. When jacob and MiB have the convo on the beach… jacob doesn’t see his brother. He didn’t see locke either. He just sees evil. And evil; can only play with people who believe in it and joacob simply doesn’t believe in it and in order to continue putting evil where it belongs, he needs more people to NOT believe in the evil, to not be tempted by “the light”. So the game is jacob’s game and they’re his rules because he has the ultimate faith in everything… that things are good and that poeople are inherantly good. He’s not… you know… cocky or anything about winning the game… it’s not a game against his brother… it’s a game against the entity which appears as his brother… and jacob can’t be beaten because he’s good and good only requires faith. Evil cannot engulf the world and anihilate everything if no one is afraid of it. (think about how the idea of evil appearing as a person with whom you have this guilt over, emotional baggage from the past… the idea of a ghost that haunts you and if you succomb to the ghost… you’re succombing to the past… and almost always in this story doing that leads to bad things)
The rules must exist then to preserve the idea that you have to believe in fear in order for it to be powerful and likewise good. So anything that would put people in a position where it wasn’t a matter of choice would be breaking the rules. And jacob doesn’t have authority over the rules because he doesn’t have to… simply, if MiB does something to kill everyone then that simply doens’t prove than anyone beleived in fear and evil enough for it to run rampant… he can’t put them in a position where they succomb to evil out of necessity. They have to choose it… to believe it for it to be real. Same with good. So the idea that if MiB gets what he wants, if it leafes the island and turns everyone into a believer of fear, then the world is lost… lost to fear
Jacob didn’t necessarily want to be protector so he also has an issue with the idea that people cannot be judged based on things that happen which offer them no real choice. So the rules probably all apply to the idea of choice and consequence and that while everything seems to repeat, the subtle differences indicate learning and choice.
The next thing that then vexes me is the numbers and the lighthouse THAT aspect of the game. And maybe that wont make a difference. Maybe that’s just in concert with the idea that Jacob is literally playing a game and that he loves his brother and he wants to play an honest game with him, he doesn’t want to lose his brother either…. The whole thing has been about liberating his brother from the evil which HE caused… he wants his brother to be able to move on
This whole thing is about Jacob trying to Fix his mistake of killing his brother. MiB will be redeemed… he wasn’t supposed to kill his brother because Mother Earth was said it was forbidden… errr not possible…. Jacob broke the rules of mother earth and has been trying to fix that the whole time.
Also, what if the thing that killed titus, was not the mother, but a manifestation of evil… of the light. Think of how Claudia appeared under a column of light… so did mother to titus.
What an extraordinarily intelligent comment, Jerry.
She’s ridiculous, and most of the crap she’s asking about she doesn’t even have the facts right on what she said
