Ricky Gervais bigs up his new sitcom, 'Life's Too Short.'

Yesterday, Gervais called from London to give us the lowdown on his latest project.

“It’s a single camera sitcom following the trials and tribulations of ‘Warwick Davis, showbiz dwarf,'” explained the comedian. “Warwick is playing a twisted version of himself. He’s quite conceited and arrogant and manipulative. And he runs a [small person] talent agency, which he does in real life. Me and Steve Merchant pop up as ourselves, just to add some realism. Warwick comes round and says, ‘Doing any more Extras? Got any work?’ And we go, ‘Ooh, no, not really.’ And we try to get rid of him. It’s fantastic. We did some casting today. I’m off to America for some shows and then I come back after that and we shoot a little pilot, just like we did with The Office ten years ago, and then we’ll see.”

Sounds like a winner to me. But what do you think? Could Life’s Too Short be another comedy classic as good as the UK version of The Office and Extras? Or have Gervais and Merchant set the bar too, well, high?

That episode of Extras was brilliant from top to bottom. I’ll watch anything Ricky and Steve do, really.

That was such a great episode! I miss Extras!

I agree Daisy. Anything Ricky Gervais does is hilarious

That episode was brilliant. I’ve never laughed so hard. The bloopers are funny as well. Daniel Radcliffe has great comedic timing.

“Bigs up”? Is this some sort of new slang or saying of which I have no knowledge?

  • Glenn

You’re an idiot. Play a record.

Ha! I could listen to those XFM shows all day long.

Can’t wait to see it. Have recently been enjoying “The Ricky Gervais Show” on HBO. Very funny stuff. I have no idea where Karl Pilkington came from, but he is a riot.

I loved The Office, liked Extras, but am not a big fan of Gervais right now. He’s way funniest when he’s playing a loser who’s also kind of a schmuck. When he starts playing “himself” – rich, influential actor who can be kind of a schmuck – it’s much more of a turnoff.

Cannot wait, they are comedic geniuses. And I want to marry Steve Merchant!

I am willing watch anything that Gervais and Merchant do… simply b/c I think that they are the funniest people ALIVE!!!

Im a massive fan as well but this sounds like Gervais’ answer to Curb Your Enthusiasm im worried it could be too much of a copied idea albeit with small people.

    • Jordan

      i agree.
I’ve never been disappointed with anything Ricky/Steve have done together and I’m also a massive fan of Curb, so im sure i’ll enjoy this.

I’m just worried the lack of originality will degrade the project.

  • Pilkingtod.

Bigs up… pun. Ah for fffff….

  • Diane

I hope Ricky and Stephen just don’t ‘pop up’ and are in fact regulars!
