'The Real Housewives of New York' recap: Alex vs. Jill!

real-housewives-nycImage Credit: Mitchell Haaseth/BravoAnyone who saw the previews for last night’s episode of The Real Housewives of New York knew that a showdown of epic proportions was going to take place between Alex and Jill — the clip of Alex angrily saying “You are a mean girl! You are in high school!” has been making the rounds for weeks now, actually. Of course, anyone who watches the show also knew that several smaller eruptions would occur before we got to the main even. That’s just how these women roll.

The episode started off at Sonja’s Cocktails and Couture party. Everyone (minus Bethenney and Simon) showed up, toting their designer duds. I wish we had been able to see the clothes, but since they can’t fight, they stayed zipped up in their garment bags. Everyone was still abuzz over Alex and the infamous message. Luann, who’s known to be the neutral one of the group (eye roll), told Alex that the way she delivered it to Jill was “heartless,” and “to take sides is not the thing to do.” Pot. Kettle. Black. Luann, you are the captain of Team Jill, and we all know it. Shut up.

Bawby also had to get his two cents in, and told Alex that Bethenney should have given Jill the message of doom, not her. I understand Bawby wanting to defend his wife (after he idly stood by while she and Mario got into a tiff last season), and sure, it really wasn’t Alex’s place to end someone else’s friendship. But wasn’t he doing exactly what he told Alex not to do? He wasn’t bluntly delivering a message — he was meddling.

Alex did try to approach Jill and was rebuffed. She was still angry, and she told Kelly that she wanted to be in Bethenney’s life again and would never forgive Alex. Cue dramatic exit.

The next party, hosted by Gotham magazine for Kelly and her street photos, brought everyone together again, but this time Simon came along. I had to laugh when Alex told him he was her “wingman,” and the minute her back was turned, he scampered off to sit on the floor, right next to Jill. Ha! I don’t think that’s what Alex had in mind, Simon….

Jill — you know, the one who said she hates Alex and will never forgive her — said hello to her with a forced cheerfulness and kissed her on the cheek. The blatant fakeness ticked Alex off, forcing her to grab her wingman and leave. “Was it something we said?” Jill asked in a coy voice. Ugh.

Luann meanwhile was at the bar with her date Court, and her idea of wooing him was to announce that she’s working on a single. When she announced, “I’m not Madonna, but I could be the female Barry White,” I guffawed. [Ed note: I gu-barfed.]

The episode needed more Sonja. She was at all the events but wasn’t given a lot of airtime. She made me laugh on several occasions, including her response to someone suggesting she exercise with Kelly. “She runs in the road! In the street!” she exclaimed in horror. Ha! Kelly will never live that one down.

Bethenney was out of NYC most of the episode, due to her dying father calling her (for what she said was the third time in her life) from California, saying he wanted to see her after blowing her off earlier. You could see how emotionally drained she was: her relationship with her mom wasn’t much better. She tried calling, but her mom’s phone was disconnected. She also told Jason that her mom would probably be happy if she found out about her father’s illness. Yikes. I hope none of that gets in the way of Bethenney’s new life with Jason and the baby.

There was some other stuff — Ramona trying on elaborate gowns for her vow renewal, Luann bringing some of the women to a yoga spa, and Ramona inviting Jill and Sonja to her pre-vow renewal vacation in the Virgin Islands. They packed a ton into this one! Finally, it was fight time, at new-girl Jennifer Gilbert’s party. Jill got there early and asked, “Who’s coming so I can talk about them before they come?” Is she 14?

In an OMG moment, Ramona announced that Bethenney’s dad died. Jill blew up, screaming at her, “How could you not tell me? Why didn’t you say he was sick?” Ramona sagely tells her, “If she wanted you to know, she would have told you.” She added later, “Why does it have to be all about her?” Ahh, Ramona Singer, unlikely voice of reason.

Jill’s answer to all this was to run into Jennifer’s pantry. Kelly ran after her. It was weird. After Jill cried, she decided it was time to leave the pantry. She probably should have stayed in there, because Alex was ready to let her have it. She was absolutely disgusted with the fact that Jill sent a text earlier fishing for info on Bethenney’s father. “You talk all the time, now it’s time to listen,” Alex said with an edge to her voice. Jill didn’t take too kindly to that and yelled back, “Don’t you ever talk to me like that!,” jabbing her finger at Alex. I love that she responds to Alex’s only slightly raised voice with such venom. Why so much rage?

The fight continued. Alex was over Jill and her snotty remarks about Simon, the kids, Brooklyn. Jill deflected, saying, “Oh yes, I’m the Big Bad Wolf!” Well, Jill, you kind of are. While Alex obviously has trouble choosing the right moment to express herself, she’s put up with a lot from Jill over the past few seasons. Before leaving, Alex apologized to Jennifer, who wa taking this all strangely in stride. I guess she’ll fit in with the housewives just fine.

So, what did you think? Will Jill ever get it? Was Alex was right to go off on her at Jennifer’s party? Who’s excited for the big vacation episode next week?

You forgot to add that Jill seemed to be upset that Ramona did not acknowledge that Jill sent a text about Bethany’s dad. Jill seemed to be the one that knew first and broke the news to everyone. She was upset Bethany e-mailed Ramona at 6:00AM to let Ramona know her Dad had passed.

    • dani

You forgot what Ramona said to LuAnn: “if you didn’t interfere Jill & Betheny would have made up” – I was screaming – “tell her Ramona, tell her!” LuAnn the first to tell Alex to stay out of it, when LuAnn is the “selling Team Jill” shirts. I was with Ramona last night, and I think she is crazy – LOL! She is sane so far this season.

    • peache

jewelry, probably in an effort to protect herself from evil spirits and inevitable blog backlash. But backlash she’s still going to get! Here we go with our now-weekly list of Reasons Why Jill Zarin Is a Disgusting Person:
She plays the ignoring game: Alex correctly notes that Jill will position herself near Alex to make the fact that they’re not speaking all the more apparent. Little does she know this will be completely lost on Sonja and Kelly, who are ignoring her even more powerfully than she is ignoring Alex.
She’s sorry too late: “I’m so sorry for so many things that have happened over the past two months,” she says at LuAnn’s party, having realized far too late that this plotline has turned her into the show’s Maleficent.
She suddenly finds compassion when she had none: “I’m worried about her health! I’m worried about the baby! I want to go over there!” she says. Kelly, at this point, having successfully avoided drama so far this evening, is trapped in her shiny glare and is clearly too terrified to move.
She can’t have a fight without notes: The fact that she keeps admitting over and over, “I wasn’t ready” to fight with Bethenny, I didn’t have my notes” leads us to believe that she doesn’t understand how spectacularly childish this seems.
She misdirects anger: “I hate Alex, I’ll never forgive her for this,” she moans. Why? Alex didn’t say anything that Jill hadn’t already said to Bethenny herself. Who said, “We are done” first? But then, maybe we’re confused about the meaning of the word “done.” Done like Kelly’s breasts? Or done like LuAnn’s dignity after next episode’s date and song release?
She starts on negative thoughts before she even knows how to finish them: “Because the legs are dark it doesn’t give the illusion that it’s too short,” she says of Kelly’s minidress, which, frankly, is a lot longer than most of the things she wears.
She fights with phoniness: What was that smile she kept giving to Alex at the Eldridge? That was terrifying! Maybe it has something to do with the voodoo.
She’s not a sharer: When all the other women are talking about their insecurities in the spa, Jill clams up. This is partially because she’s still married and has no “I’m so alone” stories — but also partially because she feeds on other people’s weaknesses, and it’s not nice to talk when you have food in your mouth.
She is constantly looking for something: Kelly is telling actually a pretty funny story about how instead of bringing Sonja flowers she brought her a fourteen-day juice cleanse (which is like giving someone a scale for a present)

“Peache” you said everything I wanted to say….it was peachy!!! Sorry I couldn’t resist. You comments were so funny and dead on. I love Bethenny and Ramona seemed very coherent…nice to see for a change.

      • r.lisette

OMG…. because she feeds on other people’s weaknesses, and it’s not nice to talk when you have food in your mouth.

        absolutely f’ing HILARIOUS…. i’m still laughing

    • peache

Whaddya know, former bestie Jill Zarin is happy, too, spilling the wrong beans (before the new mom had even confirmed!) via Facebook Friday night: “Heard Bethenny had a baby boy…so happy for her and Jason. So happy for them.”

GOOD JOB JILLBEAST…TRYING TO BE THE FOCUS AGAIN,,,,,YOU ARE SUCH A SAD FOOL….ASSWIPE

    • alex

Check out JZ’s FB account. Yesterday, she announced that B had a boy, claiming to have received the info via Google alert. Since then, the post has been removed (I’m sure that someone out there took a screen shot after all of Jill’s Amazon shenanigans). Now there is a post under which she apologizes and blames her daughter for the erroneous info. Two more reasons that JZ is a disgusting person: 1. made an announcement that was not hers to make; and 2. blamed her daughter for her mistake. She’s just gross.
P.S. Bravo isn’t allowing a single post regarding Jill’s Amazon review of her own book and the ensuing drama. Bravo must have a steak in the proceeds

      • Bawby

SOMEONE GET RID OF THIS JILLBEAST!!
        IM NOT HAPPPPPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYYY

  • kay

See, this is why I love these recaps:
“Pot. Kettle. Black. Luann, you are the captain of Team Jill, and we all know it. Shut up.”
    “I guffawed. [Ed note: I gu-barfed.]”

You hit the nail on the head with this recap. I also love how Ramona and Alex are the sane ones this season … think back to season 1 when it seemed like they were the crazies. Who knew?

    • Jackie

I agree, I’m loving Ramona and her “Ramoments” this season. I think she’s adorable. And when she started tearing up as Bethenny called her with news of her dad, I felt that she is one of the ONLY true friends on this show.

      • Marti

Yes, I’m thinking you might be right. She is a certifiable nut job, lol, but what you see is what you get.

      • Moi

Ramona is crazy….Alex is a puppy dog….Bethenny’s puppy. Grow a backbone ALEX- Bethenny- no one cares about you or your feelings..Give me a break!

    • Gina

I know! I’d been developing respect for Alex and Simon last season because they are very involved with their boys. Plus, how Alex reminded Jill that she is a working mom trying to maintain in this struggling economy. She has my respect.

      • Moi

Respect? She is nothing but a wannabeeeeeee

  • kb

Jill looks for opportunities to cry how hurt she is. Jill makes everything all about her.
She’s a fake with a bad personality. When her husband gave her a beautiful car (and expensive purse), she proclaimed that she was “not happy”. Jill will never be happy. She’s spoiled and self-centered to the core.

  • Brooke

Was anyone else floored by the fact that Jill “apologized” for Alex making a scene at Jennifer’s party, but offered no apology for her tantrum five minutes earlier? God, that woman has issues. I hope Andy holds Jill accountable for all of her garbage at the reunion.

    • Emma

Yes, absolutely stunned by Jill’s secondary attack on Alex masquerading as an apology.

      • marinaz

Andy will hold Jill accountable, but being Jill, she will deflect and tell him her reasons for doing so are “in the book”. She’s ridiculous.

    • mec1140

OMG! I thought that immediately. How pretentious of Jill to apologize on Alex’s behalf when she was the only scene maker at the party. Running into the pantry like an immature imbecile. Her husband seems like a very nice, well mannered person – don’t understand how in the WORLD he can stomach her.

      • Marti

but I did enjoy the “nice pantry” subtitled comment

      • Noelbelle

I guess when he can’t take it anymore, he just takes trips down to his mom’s basement and hangs out with his thousands of vintage Playboys.

    • Mimi

I hope Andy splices together ALL of Jill’s mean comments . . . at least 3 per episode (remember when she said Alex had the body of a model but not the face?) so that Jill can really see how consistently mean she is. Not that she’ll acknowledge it, but it will be much harder to deny it.

      • dani

“I hope Andy splices together ALL of Jill’s mean comments” – me too – should be eye-opening.

      • Debbie

Andy is so over Jill and her antics. That was clear on Watch What Happens when Jill was on with her mother. He sees that she is a terrible person and is trying to disengage.

      • Beverly

I think that the reunion show is only one hour. Not long enough for all of Jill’s mean comments.

      • Nichole

Even if he does splice them together at the reunion show, they’ll show her face in the corner during the video and she’ll be talking to one of the other Housewives, not acknowledging what’s going on.

      • KC

No, she’ll leave if they do that. That’s what Jill does. Runs away.

      • Bernice

@beverly The reunion is 2 hrs. They started doing a two part finale because there is always so much to talk about. So one week they show the first part and usually the next day or the next week they show the second part.

      • Moi

Jill is just being honest. Bethenny is so FAKE! Alex is so “pick me, pick me” and Simon is a freak. Control your kids Alex and Bethenny- get a life!

  • DC

It was smart of Jennifer to just take all of the crazyness in, particularly if she is going to suit up as the next RHWONY. Sonja has been a refreshing addition, too.

I am Team Bethenny too. Jill is too much!

    • dani

So far I like Sonja too. She doesnt seem to take this mess so seriously and she does what she wants…did you see LuAnn comment on her wearing her hair up? I can’t stand LuAnn this season.

      • sandra

I noticed Luanns comment about the hair as well.
I can not stand her!!!!! Countless!! is correct.
Also…what happened to the Jill get a hobby and Jill never wanted to speak to Bethany again??? Go team Bethany I am with you all the well.
Jill is a troubled person and a trouble maker.
        Way to go Alex!!

  • anna

Thnaks Catherine. I’m with you. Jill seems to act like such a Bully! Why would anyone want to buy her book??? Her poor mother!
Doesn’t NYC have a law against bullying??? May be they need one now for Jill. I LOVE ALEX!!!! She is the only one I admire!!

    • sandasavi

i agree, I admire Alex too. I didn’t really have any good or bad feelings about Alex until this year and I really like her and feel that she knows herself well and is calm and takes things in stride but it was her time to step up and defend herself and to do it in front of all the ladies is better then them hearing from Jill. Jill would have just made it all about her like she always does. Jill is a huge disappointment.

      • Mike

I once thought that Alex was a fake but I am growing to like her more and more, especially this season without Simon being with her every second.

      • r.lisette

What I admire about Alex is her ability to LISTEN. Gotta love friends like that.

When Bethany told her about going to see her dad for the first time – just before leaving for the airport, she showed tremendous grace by doing the right thing. Just let Bethany talk – no judgements

        Class act

  • Hannah

It’s obvious Jill is a snobby beeyotch. Since she feels above Alex she laughs in her face but she wouldn’t do that to people she felt equal to. Then she basically threatened Alex by saying they won’t run in the same social circles anymore which means Jill will have her frozen out. Jill is a hypocrite writing books about love and forgiveness yet anything doesn’t go away that person is “not my friend and I’ll never forgive ” drop dead

    • dani

I co-sign!! Jill said just what mean high school girls say…

    • gini

I completely agree. These were my exact thoughts when I heard Jill say that to Alex. I wonder how big Jill’s circle is now.

  • lisa petrowski

You need to watch the show. Alex is crazy and she is definitely full of herself. Jill is a loud mouth but has always loved Bethany. I like Jill and she is real. Where was Bethany when her best friend’s husband was sick?

    • Jen

      Hi Jill!

      • peache

        LMAOOOOOOOOOO
        JILL BEAST

    • ann

      Jill?

    • are you serious?

um… is this Jill Zarin again? like the Amazon.com reviewer? b/c that could be the only explanation for this horrific comment…

    • Karen

I can’t believe Jill used to be my favorite. She’s so AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!! I was 100% team Jill at the start of the season, but she has proven herself to be cold, ungracious and unforgiving. I really don’t get why she’s so upset about the whole Alex thing. Sure it was ill timed, and kind of silly of Alex to make her announcement like that, but to refuse to talk to her? PLEASE!!! How funny is it that NOW she wants to be friends with Bethanny? The minute she realizes that Bethanny is through wasting time on her she’s suddenly interested in working things out. This woman is pathologically narcissistic!!!

      • dani

Co-sign! Bethenny tried to apologize and Jill turned her away, now that Bethenny doesn’t want her, she is sorry and she feels like an ass. Jill will learn this season, “forgive, or how do you expect to be forgiven?”…

    • POKEY

HA!! Exactly…Jill and Luann are not.”mean girls”.. They are harpies and shrews…

      • Mel

        Harpies and shrews! Good!

    • Torrie

and where was Jill while Bethenny’s father was dying? If she didn’t know before (which she did) she certainly got informed by Alex.

      • Julia

Exactly – she was bitching at Ramona for not telling her Bethenny’s father was sick but Alex had already told her weeks before. Today on the Wendy William’s show, she said that if she had known that Bethenny’s father was sick she would have forgotten the whole fight to be with Bethenny. Amazing how this woman rewrites history.

    • RHW TEXAS

Don’t you get it? Bawby’s surgery or illness wasn’t that serious or Jill didn’t share the seriousness of it with anyone.

      • Mel

Exactly. As it seems, B responded to what she thought (was told) was a “procedure” – with flowers, e-mail (text?). You can’t respond “appropriately” to a situation you know nothing about.

      • r.lisette

OK… did Jill sit by her husband’s side throughout his recovery, or did she attend events during this time?

If she was out and about, the logical conclusion is Bobby’s condition was not such that would demand a friend “figure it out”.

        Just sayin’

      • Moi

Did you NOT watch the show? Alex DID NOT tell Jill that her father was ill. Jezzzz- get your story straight

    • to Lisa

How can anyone say that Alex is crazy? She is one of the most sane of the whole bunch. Your view, IMO, is a little off kilter!

    • kaykins

Alex is the voice of reason and a sincere person. Jill says really mean things behind people’s backs, in front of them and over their voices. I can only speak for myself but I believe a flower basket and email or call if one of my friend’s husbands was in the hospital would be a show of concern. I would not think of visiting him in the hospital unless asked… a lot of people do not really want company when they are sick. Plus I believe Bethany was on a book tour and in the middle of a new romance. Jill throws supposed friends away at the drop of a hat, can’t you see that?

    • heva

      Jill’s behavior is indefensible.

    • cocomo

Lisa P, I’m with you. Jill is real and has always cared for Bethenny. Alex is angry about a lot of things, more than just Jill. Simon took a double take, and asked in disbelief if she really felt better delivering the infamous message. Even Ramona wouldn’t DO that. I think Bravo is editing out some stuff to make Jill look awful. Last year, they made Kelly look like she was snubbing Bethenny, but let’s see what she screams at Kelly next week.

  • ST

Wow, I went from liking Jill (at least with Bethenny) last year to hardly being able to stand her this year. She is extremely self centered. I like how Alex also pointed out that she had told Jill that things weren’t going well with Bethenny’s dad and Jill blew her off. She also told Bethenny, “We are done.” so you can’t exactly get upset when someone doesn’t want to tell you about their engagement, their pregnancy or their father passing when you’ve been so cruel. That’s exactly what she is too-cruel. I agree with Ramona that I think Jill and Bethenny would have possibly made up had Luann not dragged Jill away from the “ambush” that Ramona planned. Seriously, Jill and Luann-you’re insecurity is becoming all the more blatant this season and in a way I feel for you but both of you have brought all of this drama and nonsense on yourselves. I think Luann enjoys so she can have Jill as her bestie and Jill just likes the drama. Children indeed.

  • Terri

I which Jill will stop telling everyone to leave if she does not like the subject. If I was her daughter and mother I would feel ashamed. The first season I really liked her, but not you see who she really is. You go Alex stay strong.

    • Snethet

Thank you. And why does Jill tell Alex to leave someone else’s house??? Are you kidding me?

  • mom52

Are we all watching the same show? It is obvious that Alex was feeling that she was being edged out so she has to create more drama around herself. She apparently doesn’t know how to behave in someone else’s home and came across as an ass. She should stay home, learn some manners, teach her ill-behaved children how to behave, redecorate that bordello she calls a home, and get to a dentist.

    • peache

      THANKS GLORIA
      SAY HI TO JILL BEAST

      • SaraS

LOL!!! Jill is really a piece of work. I noticed how on her Amazon reviews she’d try to dumb down her grammar and spelling so people wouldn’t know it was her trashing other people who didn’t like her stupid book (and threatening to kill their cats)!!!

      • dani

What does Alex’s home decorating have to do with her actions with Jill? Alex felt it was time to say what she wanted to say to Jill and she did it. Jill doesn’t pick the best times(if there are any) to run her mouth either. Are YOU watching the same show MEAN GIRL?

      • hannah2

Um as far as decorating your daughter Jill’s place looks like a dump. I’d rather be in a bordello with some fun people than stepping in dog poop.

    • sandasavi

you are wrong in every way. Alex is real. She was had every right to confront Jill and to do it with all the ladies around was the right thing to do, so it didn’t get turned around into gossip from Jill. Jill is wrong this year.

    • marinaz

Hi Gloria, you need to show your duaghter how to put on eye makeup, because, man, those raccoon eyes have got to go!

      • mom52

        You are obviously an ass.

      • marinaz

sticks and stones, take a page out of your book

      • MARIE

TO MOM52…any you my dear are obviously Jill’s mudder, I mean Mother.

    • Marti

Actually I kind of agree with you a bit. I think they were all pretty absurd in last night’s episode. Inappropriate and petty, all the way around (Jill, Luann, Kelly, Alex).

    • kaykins

And of course Jill does know how to behave. Did you see how she attacked Ramona for not telling her information she already knew. You must have missed the parts where Jill says whatever the h…she pleases, but it’s not alright to fight back!!!

    • heva

Knowing how to behave would be throwing a tantrum and hiding in the pantry, then?

    • cocomo

Mom52 – LOL on your original comment.

  • Jen

Jill hit all new “Crazy” heights when she freaked out on Ramona about Bethenny’s dad and then saying she had no idea he was sick. She’s gotten caught in so many lies this season, its going to make for an interesting reunion when they play back all the clips for her. Her true colors have shown through this season- she’s just horrible.

    • mel k

how could Jill get mad that no one told her about Bethenny and her dad? she made it quite clear to everyone that she wanted nothing to do with Bethenny anymore and walked away every time Bethenny entered a room.Plus, it’s not like Bethenny was telling people about her dad. Ramona was a good friend to not talk about it when Bethenny didn’t want anyone to know. Jill expected Ramona to betray Bethenny to make Jill happy, that is not what friendship is about

      • Elle

But Jill DID know. Alex told her and Jill said she didn’t care because Bethany and her dad didn’t have a relationship.

    • Mel

Hopefully they don’t let her off the hook, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she demands (demanded?) to be treated with kid gloves at the reunion.

  • TT44

Shocking that Ramona was the voice of reason in this episode! Loved “Pot. Kettle. Black.” Too funny and SO TRUE! Luann has really gone off the deep end since her hubby dumped her.

    • lee

yeah, luann’s in love with jill.

  • Joan32

The new wife, Jennifer has a awesome pantry as well knows how to dress. Sounja should not wear pink anymore.

  • anne marie

what a great re-cap, well done!! Luanne is ridiculous and so is Jill, loving Ramona lately too. Bethanny and Jill were great last year, it’s a shame, they are both not good without each other, they need to talk… or stay away from all the same circles, Bethanny has her own show now so i guess she will be done with NYHW. Jill is mean….

    • pjma

Not sure about Ramona. Even after the dust up at her own cosmeting showing, even after she made fun of her modeling, even after every week when Jill jabs and ridicules Ramona, she still goes ahead and invites her to join her for a few days on a yacht before her commitment ceremony because they are “friends”.

A little too much of the back and forth hypocrisy here to even keep score anymore. Ramona is not to be trusted.

      • regie

i am sure that luann’s is in love with jill and the star of the show is bethanny, love her…..
