Jesus Christ animated series to air on Comedy Central. Peace be with them.

south-park-jesusImage Credit: Comedy CentralRuh-roh. Looks like Comedy Central is headed towards controversial territory, just two weeks after South Park‘s Muhammad madness. Today, the network announced their slate of 22 upcoming projects, which includes JC, an animated series about Jesus Christ. (Other new series include Live Sex Show, a talk show about sex, naturally; Rich Dicks, based on a Funny or Die sketch starring Nick Kroll and Jon Daly; and stoner show Highdeas.) According to The Hollywood Reporter, JC follows the Son of Man as he attempts to “escape the shadow of his ‘powerful but apathetic father’ and live a regular life in New York.” Anyone else getting a Dr. Katz-esque vibe from that description?

Shock value works for some of Comedy Central’s programs (South Park being the most obvious of them), and it certainly gets our attention, but I’m hoping this project also has some heart and leaves the Lamb of God’s extreme, gun-toting antics to South Park. No one can do it better than Trey and Matt anyway, right?

I actually find myself more excited to see This Show Will Get You High, a sketch comedy show featuring Upright Citizens Brigade comics. But maybe that’s because I’m just embarrassed that I had to look up synonyms for “Jesus Christ” while writing this post. (Bad Catholic, Kate. Bad!)

First………..time I’ve heard of a comedy show starring Jesus.

RIPOFF this has already been done unfortunately JFCSHOW.COM

    • Darren

Thank you! I was just going to post that. This show is a complete and total ripoff of JFC. I love that show, and now CC is backpeddling and scrambling from the backlash to pulling the Muhammad episode and trying to make up for it by stealing this great online satire. CC is pooching it. Badly.

Anyone else think it’s mildly hypocritical that Comedy Central bleeped out the word Muhammad for an entire episode of South Park but then turn around and do a show about Jesus?

I don’t fault Matt and Trey for taking lots of jabs at Jesus because well, they do it to everyone. But seriously Comedy Central. If you’re going to do a show about Jesus, at least let them say the word Muhammad.

      THANK YOU!

Totally agree, but this points out the major difference… Nobody’s going to threaten to kill them (or commit actual acts of terrorism) because of the Jesus show.

      • JT

yet Christians are seen as the intolerant ones. I’m glad Matt and Trey offend people, myself included. But, this just shows more factual evidence that CC bowed to terrorists, it had nothing to do with wanting to be inoffensive.

This seems like it’s being done more for shock value than because there is actually a good premise there.

Lame. It’s ok to make fun of Jesus, but bleep out the word Muhammed, hypocritical.

  • Kate

This is appalling. Jesus Christ to millions is God;but because this is Christian, Comedy Channel knows they will get away with this show. They wouldn’t dare do it with the Muslim’s Muhammad and it is hypocritical. They are cowards and hypocrits!

      You’re so right, Kate!

Just because you make fun of lots of things doesn’t make it is ok to make fun of everything. Knowing the difference between things that should be subject to making fun of and things that shouldn’t is part of being a grown-up and a decent human being. Apparently, some folks at Comedy Central are challenged in those areas.

How about a show about the crazy adventures of muHAMmad?

  • Appalled

I am appalled, but not shocked. Comedy Central is more about vulgarity than actual comedy these days anyway.

I concur with previous statements. All or NOTHING Comedy Central. You can’t pick and choose.

  • Starlicous

Comedy Central should watch out. The Muslims threatened them first with death and they left Mohammad alone. Next will be Christian and Hindu radicals will follow. Seems that if every major religion scares them then they will stop poking fun!

    • Tracy Schlup

True Christains will not make death threats. Thats one of the biggest diffrentences between the coran, and the bible. Jesus said to pray for your enemys. The coran and Mohammad said, your enemys are to die by the sword. So the world hated Jesus. So the world will hate us for his name sake. That is us Christains of course.

Pesonally, I am now boycotting comedy central until they show the South Park episode completely un-edited and during Prime Time. This shows they have absolutely no professional conviction.

  • john

they know better than to mess with the followers of mohammad. they (the creators) are wimps. they like to be thought of as daring, cutting edge…yet they know better than to mess with the muslims.

  • patman

guys! guys! guys! calm down…neither of them existed.

    • john

secular history disagrees with you patman.

  • The Late Mitchell Warren

It’s time for Christians to start bombing Comedy Central. How else will they learn? LOL

  • john

reuters had a quote: “In general, comedy in its purest form always makes some people uncomfortable,” said Comedy Central head of original programing Kent Alterman.” i guess that mean as long as you don’t make followers of mohammad uncomfortable.
