Craig Kilborn to host new syndicated show: Did you miss him?

Craig-KilbornImage Credit: Carlo Allegri/Getty ImagesCraig Kilborn, who helmed The Daily Show before Jon Stewart and The Late Late Show before Craig Ferguson, is planning a return to the tube. According to the Los Angeles Times, he’ll host a syndicated “early evening” talk show for 20th Television that will be tested on Fox-owned stations in major markets, including New York and L.A., this summer. Though the New York Times says it could turn into a daytime show, let’s assume we’re talking about it airing at 6:30, 7, or 7:30 p.m. on weekdays. The issue is two-fold:

1) What do you prefer to watch while you’re eating dinner in front of the TV: a sitcom, an entertainment “news” program, a game show, or a talk show?

2) If you answer “talk show,” is it one hosted by Craig Kilborn?

I’m rarely home from work before 8 p.m., but a few years ago, when I was visiting my parents for an extended period of time, we liked to time our meals to a 7 p.m. Everybody Loves Raymond repeat. (And bonus, we could flip the channel and catch another one on a different station at 7:30 p.m.) Sitcoms just feel right. Game shows, too.

Comedy Central repeats The Daily Show and The Colbert Report at 7 and 7:30, which precludes me from saying I would never watch a talk show at that hour. But I don’t see me doing it for smarmy Creggers. What about you?

I find it werid that he hosted 2 shows that were ok then when he left both became 10 times better!!!

    • thin

Yeah, I watched his Late Late Show, and he had some funny bits, but I sure do like Craig Ferguson a whole lot more.

Craig Ferguson is a million times better than Criag Kilborn though their styles are vastly different. Kilborn wasn’t bad, just not entirely memorable.

Yea when I first read this I thought it was about Craig Ferguson and I thought oh great he’s really funny but then my brain started working and I realized it was Craig Kilborn and now I feel like meh.

10 times better? Kyle, I think you’re being modest here. The shows actually began generating entertainment value. The funny thing is that just last week I was watching ‘Cursed’ with Christina Ricci playing a Production Assistant for Kilborn and I wondered whatever became of him. Lo and behold the next week he crawls out if the woodwork with a new show! Was that serendipity or strategy?

      Does that also include Sportscenter?

I am looking forward to the amazing new host that will be discovered by having to fill in for Craig Kilborn after he leaves to “further his career”.

This is the best news I have heard all day…I missed his smarmy, sarcastic, sardonic 6’5 pasty being!

    • LOL

      YES! Come back, Kilby!

    • Laurie

I agree. We are missing the smarmy and he can bring it like no one else.

Can’t wait to see what amazing host replaces him next. He sure has been a really good seat warmer in the past…….

    • A New Yorker

      I agree…

I’m sure comedians are already lining up for when he quits after several seasons

I gotta say, I loved his “5 questions” bit that he did on both shows. I learned the meaning of “peripatetic” because of him!

    • Katie

I LOVE Craig Kilborn and was so sad when he left the Late Late show. I am super surprised that so many people disliked him haha. I too loved the 5 questions bit as well! I hope the show comes on in my town!

  • mostboringseasonever

He had the most arrogant, off putting attitude ever. No way I could watch him at this point. Sorry.

  • Jed

This guy is a jackass and now he wants to return to the air after a six year hiatus? Will anyone even care or remember this goober?

  • Allison

I actually was wondering what had happened to him just yesterday. This could be interesting.

  • J

    Awesome!! I missed him.

  • Paul

Good talk, see ya out there. Great news, loved 5 questions. Wish it was a late night show, but just good to see Kilborn getting back on the air

  • Kisha

I just saw him last week on a special that aired on A&E about talk shows. He stated he doesn’t miss doing a talk show and doubted he would do one again. So this is sort of suprising to see this news .I watched him in his previous shows and enjoyed him so I would likely watch anything he did.

  • Katie

I’m excited to watch him again, I thought his Late, Late Show was hilarious…I’m surprised so many people didn’t seem to like him!

    • LOL

He was great. Come back, Craig!

  • to me, he’s not very likeable, which made trying to watch sportscenter, the daily show, and the late show extremely difficult. i liked a few of his bits (5 questions was funny), but as a host, he left a lot to be desired.

  • bedc01

Not to take anything away from Jon Stewart, he’s good doing the daily show, however, I have a soft spot for Kilborn when he was doing that show first.. his dry, smarmy, look-at-what-i-can-do attitude was so hilarious, and he was less liberal then Stewart. It sucks that he couldn’t do the same thing with the late late show, but I hope he comes back better and funnier then ever, so count me in

    • Amy

I vaguely remember The Daily Show when Craig Kilborn hosted. From what I can recall, it was quite different from the show that Jon Stewart hosts today. Trying to compare the two is like comparing apples and oranges.

    It’s about time!
Jimmy Fallon was becoming a monopoly on mediocrity.

    • SweetyPy

Totally agree with you, mark in nyc! Poor Jimmy just doesn’t get it!

  • Ashley

I’ve watched some of his interviews from the Late Late Show on youtube. He is terrible.

    • keithscomics

I hope he brings Gibby & Goldy w/ him. I miss “What Up?” and “Movie Poster Reviews”.
