Image Credit: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images; Kelsey McNeal/FoxOh, New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. Who knew you were such a pop culture junkie? Kelly’s remarks today on the Times Square bomb scare — and the arrest of suspect Faisal Shahzad — contained not one, but two pop culture references: 1) “The whole lethal assembly turned the Pathfinder into one big hurt locker,” and 2) “Jack Bauer might have caught him in 24. But in the real world, 53 [hours are] not bad.” (The whole transcript of his remarks can be found here.) Okay, so “hurt locker” is military slang, but I’m going to count it anyway. And I’ll choose to believe his mention of “eagle-eyed customs personnel” is a nod to the 2008 Shia LaBeouf thriller, and that he accompanied his assertion that everyone can “breathe a little easier” with a hummed rendition of Anna Nalick’s “Breathe (2 a.m.).”
Seriously, this guy is one Buffy reference away from being a staff member here at EW.

Funny … the clip I saw on TV had him saying, “Jack Bauer might have caught him in 24 *minutes*.” Obviously misspoke, but someone is editing out his fluff.
I also heard him say 24 “minutes”. I guess if you’re going to use pop references you should at least get them right. It did seem a bit jokey and glib considering that the only thing that kept hundreds from being killed was pure luck (and an incompetent terrorist).
“Seriously, this guy is one Buffy reference away from being a staff member here at EW.”
…or an “Arrested Development” reference. Speaking of which, today is Will Arnett’s birthday, and nothing. So nada on Christina Hendrick’s birthday yesterday, and zip on Arnett today.
Strike two.
Exactly. Christina Hendricks is bad enough, but Will Arnett too? Where is Annie Barrett? Isn’t she as obsessed with Arrested Development/Christina Hendricks as the rest of us?
I just saw that there’s an Arnett post…now THAT’S service!
Jack Bauer is not really a pop culture reference anymore. Everyone over at Fox News has giant man-crushes on the fictional character, I guess because he likes to torture people and gets to beat up Middle Eastern people.
This is good..
