More Emmys

Jimmy Fallon to host Emmys. Good decision?

Jimmy-FallonImage Credit: M Van Niedek/PR PhotosNBC has confirmed that Jimmy Fallon will host the Emmys on Aug. 29. The Peacock obviously wanted to promote one of its own talents, and as I argued when Fallon’s name was mentioned on the shortlist, I think it makes the most sense: He appeals to a young audience, has a Twitter stream that he can use to promote the awards, and has already proven he can parody Lost and Glee (with Late and 6-Bee), not to mention Kate Gosselin. Do you agree?

Once you weigh in, accept he’s your host and help him out. What bits would you like to see Fallon bring to the Emmys? I think Late and 6-Bee are givens. I stand behind my previously pitched sketches: an opening bit parodying Date Night in which 30 Rock‘s Tina Fey and The Office‘s Steve Carell are mistaken as the hosts of the Emmys and are being chased, a Soup-style segment from Community‘s Joel McHale, and a remote report from Parks and Recreation‘s Amy Poehler, who’s due to deliver her second child days before the telecast.

    Bring the Roots!

Fallon is a likeable guy with no talent. He slobbers all over his guests with Arsenio kisassness. He laughs at his own jokes. He’s just not good.

  • Madd

I like it. He’s become my go to late night talk show since Conan left.
Also, this is unrelated, but I am shocked that EW didn’t post anything about Christina Hendricks’ birthday yesterday.

    • Ceballos

I’m totally with you…shocked and APALLED that they dropped the ball on Hendricks’ birthday yesterday (and an excuse to post a picture).

Fortunately, the guys on ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” (my other daily obsession besides this site) picked up the slack.

      • Madd

Great, now I have to go to ESPN? My love/stalker obsession for this women is tearing me APAAAAART.

      • Ceballos

Nice…less than a week later, and you’re already quoting “The Room.”

        Welcome to the cult.

Who cares if it’s her birthday? This isn’t a fansite.

This is a great news. I thinks Fallon is like a small entertainer in parts but now he expands to bigger position. Thank you entertainment weeks. Spasiba.

If he fails, he’s fired from Late Night.

  • Stephanie T.

He is fun but he must bring The Roots.

    @madd
I thinks perhaps you miss article by Glibermann who says Happy Big Birthday to Mad Men secreatry. Also wishes big birthday to action hero Chucks Norris who celebrate opening of five new stores in Port Jervis and Massapequa. Spasiba.

I’m not like trolling or anything (this comes from the heart): I’ve truly loathed Fallon since his days on SNL and I think this is a horrible decision. There are legions of funnier people out there. Why doesn’t the academy shake it up a little and have a host like Liza Minelli or Betty White?

  • DW

Ugh, I don’t like this decision at all. But whatever, I’ll just fast forward through his entire hosting gig and go straight to the awards themselves.

  • Diane

I watch about 2 minutes of Fallon in a cab on the way to work about once a week, and I’ve never seen a sketch that I liked. I’ll probably watch the red carpet and then catch up on the awards via EW or E! so that I don’t have to suffer through Fallon.

One of the worst things about Conan not being on NBC anymore is he probably would have been asked to do this gig if he was still there. Conan hosting the Emmys is always awesome. Good luck to Jimmy.

  • Sam

His parodying of Lost and Glee will be SUPER useful 5 months from now when they’re old news. *eye roll*

  • MrNiceGuy

Fallon is the epitome of ex-SNL cast members who weren’t funny then or now.

  • DanOregon

NBC really dodged a bullet getting the show – needless to say the Jay/Conan stuff will be kept to a minimum if mentioned at all. I really hope Conan wins.

  • Jessica

Why do they need a host? All they need is someone to do some taped segments and a voice over person to annouce the presenters.

  • CAReader

Ugh – can’t stand Fallon! I thought NPH was great last year, why not have him host again even if he’s not an NBC star? If they gotta go NBC talent stable, they shoulda picked Joel McHale. Or heck, even Carson Daily if they gotta have an NBC late night guy!
