As part of our neverending quest to find new ways to preach the gospel of pop culture — shameless self-promotion alert!!! — we recently launched our new Must List iPad app. We took our weekly rundown of the 10 things we love, and gave it all the nifty multimedia bells and whistles you’ve come to expect from the Internets.
Now, instead of just telling you about our favorite new movies, TV shows, books, viral videos, games, and apps, we give you the chance to experience them yourself, all inside the app!
For example, this week we’re loving Maxwell’s minimalist video for “Fistful of Tears.” By tapping on the screen, you can watch the video, read our review of his album BLACKsummers’night, and download it on iTunes. We’re also ecstatic about Matt Smith’s arrival as the new Time Lord on Doctor Who; you can watch a promo for the new season, download episodes on iTunes, read our recap of Smith’s premiere episode, and watch a vintage clip from the very first episode of Doctor Who. Hooray for the post-modern multimedia experience!
Check out a video of the app in action:
We really enjoy playing with our Must List app, and we think you will, too. There are a whole host of really cool iPad applications, and we're excited to be taking part in this madcap new development of media technology. So check us out on iTunes and let us know what you think! And stay tuned for an iPhone version of the app -- it's coming soon!

You aren’t going to make this an iPhone app too?
Thanks, steph. Yes, we are working on an iPhone version of our Must List app. We’ve updated this post to include that info. Thanks for the heads-up!
It is extremely disappointing that you created this for iPad only, for a device that barely any of your readers have, while the iPhone/iTouch have been around for years yet no EW app. Did you actually do any research to find out what your audience have? No matter how much space you alocate to “padding yourselves on the back about this ‘limited’ app” both in the magazine and on-line, it still makes no sense that you did not create it for both platforms. This should have been done in the design phase. Then you could be writing articles about how great it is that would actually matter to a bigger potion of your reader.
I agree totally that EW missed the boat by crapping on the iPhone users.
Shut up, you babies! The iPad is the optimal device for this and an iPhone version would be pointless because of the small screen size. Man up and get an iPad.
I mean People/E Online even awful TMZ has an iPhone app and EW does not (oh there is a mobile site, WOW!). There is no excuse. I feel bad sounding so negative, but have loved EW for years (even before the Internet) and been waiting for an iPhone app, and now they come up with this! The iPad has already got its share of bad press and I am not even going to consider it until the next generation.
No iPad for me until it can play hulu!
Ugh. If only they started selling the iPad in Canada
Love how the comments stopped once EW admitted an iPhone app is in the works. Anyone eating crow yet? lol
Anyway, I have an iPhone but this definitely is more incentive (along with Netflix and ABC vid players) to get that iPad! Ugh…if only I had a bazillion dollars to buy all of my favorite apple devices! lol
Looks awesome!
I’ll be getting it. Thanks, EW!
Aah! You’re making an iPhone app! Will it work on the iPod Touch as well? I know that’s kinda a stupid question, but I’ve got an iPod Touch.
