Image Credit: Christopher Polk/Getty ImagesTaylor Swift is the new face of CoverGirl, and I can’t think of a better choice. While aggressive marketing of cosmetics over the past several decades has done women no favors overall — and let’s face it, Taylor’s more genetically blessed than most of us — CoverGirl does have a knack for at least picking ladies whose beauty is more than skin deep. If girls have to be bombarded with images of freakishly attractive and/or famous women selling them ways to cover their flaws, well, Drew Barrymore, Rihanna, Queen Latifah, and Ellen DeGeneres certainly give them something more than well-tweezed eyebrows to look up to.
And, while Taylor has her detractors, she fits the bill, too. I remember, when I was about 13 and Debbie Gibson was at her peak, that I bought the Rock ‘n’ Rose lipstick and Cool Teal eyeliner she wore in a makeup ad (for Revlon, I think … yes, I bought her Electric Youth fragrance, too). But I also bought my first guitar and filled a notebook with (bad) song lyrics inspired by Debbie. Young girls are passionately inspired by Swift now in the same way — and if we’re going to see somebody in CoverGirl’s ubiquitous ad campaigns, it might as well be the girl who incites guitar- and notebook-buying at least as often as she promotes the wonders of shiny lips.
What do you think, PopWatchers? Can Taylor hang with Drew, Rihanna, and company?

Why doesn’t she quit playing around and just OPEN her eyes?
Regardless of her singing talent, I think she is genuinely a good role model for young girls. She’s really never done anything wrong. And she looks beautiful. It’s nice that covergirl is looking at both outer beauty and in inner beauty.
Maybe one day they can do Gabourey Sidibe!
is she the fluffy girl from Precious? that would be cool
She’s easy on the eyes. Good choice …… can’t sing though.
i mean look at that face…wow….she is electric!
I think she’s an excellent choice. Obviously, she’s lovely and she’s been a fantastic role model for young girls. I wish more celebrities behaved with as much class.
She is sooooo overrated. And why does she always have that squinty look on her face? Is that going to work in showing off cosmetics? I just don’t get the facination with this girl.
Of course…a good role model, being praised for good looks and not actual talent. Thats the way to get ahead in life girls!
Taylor is incredibly beautiful both inside and out. She’s a great singer, entertainer, writer, and most importantly a great human being.
maybe the CoverGirl people can get her to stop with the eyeliner!
She is perfect!! I had been wondering why they hadn’t named her before now. She is incredibly beautiful.
She’s a pretty good choice because she’s cute without being “freakishly attractive,” therefore setting up completely unrealistic ideals for young (and not so young) girls.
Taylor is highly UNDERRATED! She’s an extremely talented superstar yet she maintains a close bond with normal people. She remains approachable. She’s a flawless character example for everyone. P&G knows what they’re doing…they will make a fortune with Taylor’s endorsement.
Taylor is the perfect choice.. she is so adorably gorgeous
