'Lost' Exclusive: Team Darlton on remaining mysteries, post-finale 'radio silence'

Categories: Lost, Television

kimmel-lostImage Credit: Adam Larkey/ABCEvery week — or at least whenever they have a free moment — Lost executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof record a Podcast in which they discuss the past week’s episode, preview the upcoming week’s episode, answer (or evade) fan questions, and address the the general state of Lost. For some fans, the podcast is an important part of their Lost experience. For other fans, such as myself, the podcast is an invitation to crash a computer. Seriously: for some reason, my technology routinely fails me when it comes to listening to the podcast. I am beginning to suspect sinister forces at work in the world, denying me access to the secret knowledge that Damon and Carlton are sharing with the world. It’s true, isn’t it? Tell me!

And while you’re at it, tell me what the news is that the producers share in these exclusive excerpts from their new podcast, which should be available later today at abc.com. (Podcast streaming after the jump.) READ FULL STORY »

Paul Rudd talks 'Dinner for Schmucks': 'It's in 4D'

DINNER-FOR-SCHMUCKSImage Credit: Merie WeismillerOn July 23, Paul Rudd and Steve Carell will star in Dinner for Schmucks, a comedy from director Jay Roach (Meet the Fockers) about a finance exec (Rudd) who gets a promotion on the condition that he invite a megadork (Carell) to a mean-spirited dinner. The guy with the most imbecilic dinner-date is crowned the winner. We chatted with Rudd for our Summer Movie Preview issue about working with Carell for the third time (after The 40 Year-Old Virgin and Anchorman) and why, exactly, audiences should spend their hard-earned money on Schmucks this summer.

EW: This is your third movie with Steve Carell. Seems you like working with the guy.
PAUL RUDD: I’m always amazed by him. He has an ability to be really funny, but it’s not his focus. He’s more of an actor than just a comic because he’s much more worried about the character’s human struggle than the jokes. READ FULL STORY »

FIRST LOOK: Liev Schreiber and Helen Hunt in 'Every Day'

Every Day (2010) Helen Hunt and Liev Schreiber

Here’s an early glimpse at the independent film Every Day, starring Liev Schreiber as Ned, a television writer with a gay son, whose relationship with his wife (Helen Hunt) is strained when her estranged father moves into their New York home. Director Richard Levine based much of the film’s drama on his own life. “It’s a very personal movie,” he tells EW. “I wouldn’t say it’s completely autobiographical, but it’s definitely personal in the sense that it has to do with my son who came out when he was 14 and dealing with my father-in-law.” Even the series that Ned writes for bears more than a passing resemblance to Nip/Tuck, which Levine worked on for years. “But even while it’s personal like that, it also definitely feels like it resonates with a lot of other people. It grapples with the very human issues of parents and children.” Every Day will be premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24.

Clip du jour: 'The P-P-Platypus Song' is the weirdest/best ever

Everything about this video is weird, and I kept expecting something really creepy to happen, which I guess says more about me than the puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-platypus. That sound you hear is the entire world saying “whaaaaa?” as they watch this: READ FULL STORY »

'Idol' Aha! Moment: Siobhan Magnus is Cara Lynn

Cara-Lynn-SiobhanImage Credit: Fox; Lacey Terrell/HBOOn Tuesday night’s American Idol, Simon claimed Siobhan Magnus had “lost who you were two or three weeks ago.” I’ve solved the mystery; it’s what I’ve suspected for awhile: Siobhan is Nicki’s daughter Cara Lynn (Cassi Thomson) from Big Love. She’s gone rogue! She’s been messing with us. “Even I can’t pinpoint who or what I am,” said “Siobhan,” impatient to get back to the hotel and sweep her hair into a much smoother bouffant.

Will Cara Lynn put an end to this strange, rebellious phase next week and finally incorporate a billowing Temple Dress into her next Idol look? I would bet more on a modest sleeveless blouse tucked into denim shorts à la Nicki and Bill’s D.C. vacation. Stay tuned.

'True Blood' porn parody: A little less conversation, a little more action

True-Blood-porn-parodyThe blogosphere is alive with the sound of a porn star not quite nailing Stephen Moyer’s throaty “Sookie.” The trailer for New Sensations’ Tru: A XXX Parody is making the rounds. Watch it after the jump (no nudity or sex, but some NSFW language). Things we learn:

• Porn trailers will name-drop for credibility as well: This is from “the studio that brought you The Sex-Files – A Dark XXX Parody.”

• The character you assume is Sam, because he’s behind the bar with Tara, is actually Jason. He appears to be the only one attempting an accent, so, good for him for trying!

• Not all vampires are sexy. That was the best they could do for Bill and Eric? (Do we think Eric’s wig looks horrendous on purpose? I want to say yes, but it’s not quite as obvious as Larry’s hair in Hustler’s This Ain’t Curb Your Enthusiasm XXX. Note: That trailer is much less SFW.)

• I can’t name the actor playing Sam, but I do recognize his face. Wait. What? Who wrote that? READ FULL STORY »

TV series finales: Do your favorite characters need to hook up for you to feel satisfied?

tv-couplesImage Credit: Eric Liebowitz/ABC; Art Streiber/FoxAfter spending weeks speculating over Betty Suarez’s romantic fate (will it be Gio? Henry? Matt? Daniel?), on last night’s Ugly Betty series finale (SPOILER ALERT!), we watched our bespeckled heroine end up with…no one. Kind of. Maybe. I think. Okay, here’s what we know: Daniel and Betty were going to go out for dinner in London. That’s it. No kiss, no lingering stare. (Well, maybe a little one courtesy of the former Mode editor.) If you ask me, the ending was pretty genius: Supporters of the Daniel-Betty union will choose to believe the duo were going on a date, while Daniel-Betty haters will simply believe the pair has an extremely co-dependent friendship.

But there’s another reason I loved the ambiguity: READ FULL STORY »

Tiger Woods' Nike ad turned off the public, according to study

Experts thought Tiger Woods‘ “Earl and Tiger” Nike ad was a stroke of genius when it was released just before his return to golf’s heralded Masters tournament. But the consumers are always right.  And they have spoken: Woods’ newest Nike  commercial is a loser, reports Adweek. Ad evaluators Ace Metrix tested the 30-second clip for an online panel of 500, and it failed at both persuasion and watchability. “Earl and Tiger” earned an overall score of 365 points out of a maximum 950. The average for spots of the sort is 501. For persuasion, where 554 is average, the ad scored 428, and it got 459 points for watchability, versus a  567 norm. (A less-than-scientific PopWatch poll found that just 36 percent of you thought the spot boosted his image, and 61 percent thought the use of his father’s voice was inappropriate.)

Did Tiger come back too soon for golf fans? Or did Team Nike just miss the mark with the ad? READ FULL STORY »

'Cougar Town' recap: Goose attack!

On last night’s Cougar Town, Andy (Ian Gomez) finally found a physical attribute he shares with his son, Stan, and all he needed to do was watch his wife change the baby’s diaper. The goose attack at the petting zoo — or, if you’re Bobby, the buffet — was all for naught! Let’s hope baby Stan’s future lover doesn’t punish him for cheating by making him move his own “elephant trunk” genitalia with garden shears while she or he watches. READ FULL STORY »

CMT plans to develop 'Get Up and Dance'

CMT, which stands for Country Music Television, has a dance-competition reality series in development from producer Phil Gurin (The Singing Bee). According to the Hollywood Reporter, the hour-long show will combine video clips of people from across the country paying tribute to famous dance scenes with their own interpretation (gah!) with onstage performances by amateur contestants, who will perform their rendition of the same dance before a live studio audience (aggggghhhh!).

Despite the information above, I choose to believe CMT’s new dance series will actually be the TV spinoff of Paula Abdul’s 1995 aerobics video Get Up and Dance. You know how projects tend to evolve over time. Paula is gonna roll up to CMT any minute now. The suits will say “Hey Paula,” and glare at her color block vest, but then she’ll read some of her most profound tweets out loud and they’ll hire her on the spot.
