Kate Gosselin on Jay Leno's 'Tonight Show': No rest for the wicked

In her interview with Jay Leno last night, Kate Gosselin seemed to sort of grasp what “The Kate Effect” on Dancing With the StarsAmerican Idol-slaying ratings this season is all about: “They’re probably just tuning in to see if I’ll fall,” she quipped. “But that’s still part of the effect, it all counts!” Jay said, having been the victim of quite a fall himself in recent times. This Week on Stage: Elvis lives...on Broadway

million_dollar_quartetImage Credit: Joan MarcusWe’re heading into the final stretch before the April 30 cut-off for Tony Award eligibility, but this week’s only opening is the jukebox musical Million Dollar Quartet, based on a real-life jam session in 1956 with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis. EW’s Clark Collis gives the show a B-, noting, “One can’t help wondering if the City of Sin would also be a better venue for this lightweight show.”

Meanwhile, producers announced plans to bring South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s first stage musical, The Book of Mormon, to Broadway next March. Robert Lopez, who co-created Avenue Q, assisted on the duo on the book, music, and lyrics. With the Phantom sequel and the Spider-Man musical already in the works, next season is looking to be very interesting indeed.

If you’re looking for some live theater, check out the EW.com Stage hub for up-to-date news and reviews; or consult this handy guide, which includes links to all of our stage reviews of current shows. (Note: The reviews are typically of performances with the show’s original cast.)

Samuel L. Jackson and Kellan Lutz to star together in 'Deathgames'

jackson-lutzImage Credit: Theo Wargo/WireImage.com; Gustavo Caballero/WireImage.comLooking for a casting combo you never considered but might really be obsessed with? Exhibit A: Iron Man 2 pro Samuel L. Jackson and Twilight/Nightmare on Elm Street hottie Kellan Lutz are in negotiations to star together in the indie action flick Deathgames, according to the Hollywood Reporter. As a sexy bonus, the story is yet another gladiator tale…sorta! The released logline reveals that the movie centers on Lutz, whose character is kidnapped and forced into “the savage world of a modern gladiator arena.” (I’m thinking that I wouldn’t mind seeing Lutz scantily clad in gladiator uniform. I mean, right?!?) But then you have to consider that this is truly a gladiator set-up — i.e. the contemporary, voracious online masses are paying to see someone, possibly Lutz, bite it. Turns out Jackson, of course, is the mastermind behind the whole situation. The best part of Jackson’s role is that he apparently oversees the battles from his “computer lair with the help of twin ladies who see to his every desire.” Sorta like the Budweiser Twins maybe? Yes!

What do you think, PopWatchers? Does a Jackson-Lutz combo — the younger in a gladiator thong and the older with sexy twins — sound appealing to you?

'Vampire Diaries' recap: The hunger

Vampire-Diaries-ControlImage Credit: Bob Mahoney/The CWIt’s unfortunate that Stefan’s detox didn’t simply involve the continuation of workouts while wearing a wifebeater. That, for 28 days, would have been a win-win for everyone. Instead, he tried to drown his thirst for human blood in the bottle, and that was good for no one. Drunk Stefan wasn’t even a good dancer.

'Project Runway' recap: Mod to the Max versus Cuckoo Chanel

Last night, we learned who would be competing at Bryant Park in the third slot. Notice I said competing, not showing. A deliberate choice of words that I alone seem to be capable of making. To wit: At the top of the hour, before she sent the four finalists back home with 9 grand in their pockets and at least 10 grand worth of big dreams in their heads, Heidi said to Jay and Mila, “Only one of you will be showing at Fashion Week.” False, Frau Klum, false! As the world now knows, 10 designers showed at Bryant Park, including Jay, but only three competed for the season seven crown. The bald-faced lie inaccurate phrasing started last week and irked me all throughout tonight’s episode, as every single person who referenced the Jay vs. Mila showdown followed suit. The sleight-of-tongue might not have bothered me so much if I didn’t get the sense that all the Runway players had been instructed to do so by shadowy producers desperate to cover up the fact that they’d already diminished the importance of showing at Bryant Park by parading 10 collections, most of them utterly forgettable, up and down the catwalk in February. I mean, for cripes’ sake, Janeane got to show there!

'Bones' recap: 'Can we dance, Booth? It's Seal.'

Categories: Bones, Television, TV Recap

Bones-Queen-BeeImage Credit: Greg Gayne/FoxComing off last week’s awesome 100th episode, Bones could’ve taken a bad, bad turn by trying to pretend that Brennan hadn’t just crushed Booth’s heart. To its credit, it found a fun way to address it: By having Brennan ask him to slow-dance to “Kiss From a Rose” at her class reunion. He originally said no — the correct response for a man trying to protect himself from falling deeper for a woman who says she’s incapable of being with him. But seeing her disappointment, he said yes, insisting they leave room for the Holy Spirit between them. Then, when Brennan teared up because she was finally experiencing the prom she never had, he held her close. Swoon. No wonder every single thirtysomething woman at that reunion hit on him. (Very realistic, by the way, and they hadn’t even seen how good his biceps looked in that FBI T-shirt.) The only thing that could have made that dance scene better is if David Boreanaz had fast-danced to his full potential and not gone for a joke move (was that a sprinkler?) while Brennan did her famous Electric Slide. (I know you think I’m gonna pull out the Angel clip, but I actually prefer his pop-locking on The Graham Norton Show.) READ FULL STORY »

Jeff Probst blogs 'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains' episode 9

survivor-jeff-probstImage Credit: Monty Brinton/CBSHEROES V. VILLAINS – IT JUST KEEPS GETTIN’ BETTER
Man oh man.  Episode eight and this season has not slowed down one bit.

I know I use a lot of hyperbole in my blogs, it’s in part just so I can read your comments criticizing me for doing so, but sometimes the hype is justified.  That’s certainly the case with what I’m about to write…. READ FULL STORY »

'Supernatural' 100th episode recap: Because you're still my big brother

Supernatural-PointImage Credit: David Gray/The CWThe little show that began as a road trip through the demon-filled American back-country is officially 100 episodes in — and oh, how things have changed since the beginning. [SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT.] Remember when Dean and Sam were two young demon-hunters, off in a sweet ride of a car to search for their father, who taught them all they know about the supernatural? Staring in the devilish face of a fight like they’ve never seen before, I imagine Dean and Sam are longing for the days when their biggest problem was following dad’s trail. Personally, I’m not. That’s not to say those days didn’t produce quality entertainment. Many of the episodes from what I’ll call ”the simpler days” made my list of Supernatural‘s 10 Best Episodes (a task that produced new levels of pain in my soul, which I’m not sure I’ve recovered from quite yet).
