'Modern Family' star Julie Bowen hates nerds, inspires jogging, visits Jimmy Kimmel

Heidi Klum — whoops, sorry, Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to complain about the geeky wireless networks she encounters in her neighborhood. She claims people who know what a Sith Lord is can’t get laid in high school. Thank God her kids will be much cooler than that and get an early start. “I can send them to Mommy and Me Suzuki violin lessons,” she said, “and they’re still gonna f— in my bed.” She’s just being realistic about it! Watch the video and then tell me if her legs have inspired you to take up running yet, after the jump.

I am totally with her re: the “SARS Balls” one typically finds at Chuck E. Cheese.

Wow, never noticed she does kind of look like Heidi at first glance.

    • Belle

Heidi, Julie and Elizabeth Banks all have very similar looks. When Elizabeth Banks guest starred on MF, I thought she was Julie. But yes, with that sexy outfit and hair she could pass for Heidi Klum.

She is seriously the most under rated hottie in show business. I mean, Lost, Ed, Modern Family – she either knows quality or simply elevates anything she is in.

    • LOL

She’s always been on fire. First noticed her back on “Ed.” Very underrated.

      • Ambient Lite

Loved that show, she was great.

      • JD

Don’t forget about Happy Gilmore haha.

      • Stacie

        Or those Stella shorts!

    • Zeddicus “Zedd” Zu’l Zorander

She is the least interesting character on Modern Family, that show is awesome but her character could easily be removed and the show would not skip a beat.

      • llevinso

        Disagree. Claire is awesome.

      • tim Morrissy

I totally disagree, Claire can be hilarious in such an understated way. I love the way she got back at her daughter when her daughter was embarrassed to be seen with her. Claire just teased her about a training bra and drove off saying “That’ll teach her to screw with me”. I rolled on the floor laughing because it was so totally unexpected from her character and just the thing we parents would like to do to our own kids in our fantasies.

      • Z

I completely disagree. Her comedic timing is superb.

      • JRose

disagree – a great part of her character is how she has to play off of Phil as the “adult”. Excellent cast all the way around.

      • Kris

        I Disagree greatly.

    • Pete

And don’t forget “Happy Madison”!!! I thought she was pretty hot in that one too, even though she had shorter hair…

      • Mariah

        That’d be Happy Gilmore.

      • llevinso

Oh my god, I did not realize that was her in Happy Gilmore…wow. Brings me back.

    • Lindor

Also, Boston Legal! That show was fantastic. I miss it :(

  • Madd

Wow. And wasn’t she pregnant with twins not too long ago? Wow.
No wonder Dylan has a crush on her.

    • Ceballos

“Happy Valentine’s Day Mrs. Dunphy. All women should look as tasty as you when they’re old.”

      • Mark

        “Disturbing….”

  • jizzack bizzauer

wow so she thinks she is better than some people whose hobbies are a little nerdy eh? well i hope she gets AIDS and dies then…hows that? I mean if thats the attitude she is gonna take then F % C K her right in her heidi klum wannabe @$$hole…

    • Carlos

She is better than Star Wars nerds. Everyone who isn’t a Star Wars nerd is better than Star Wars nerds. Stalin, Pol Pot, Mike Kryzewski, A Rod, Mike Vick–all of them more likeable than Star Wars nerds.

      • LOL

        Carlos FTW!

      • Cas

Some of those people definitely would have been Star Wars fans if they’d been born in a different decade.

      • Bob

I’m sorry, but did you just compare Coach K to a couple of commies and Michael Vick? Really???

      • Zeddicus “Zedd” Zu’l Zorander

@Bob – guys from Duke are snobs

      • Sara

In case you haven’t heard, Bob, the theme for this week is “I hate Duke like I hate the Nazis.”

    • who cares

      shut up douche

    • mjc fan

What a ridiculous comment. I’m in high school, know what a Sith Lord is, and get laid all the time.

      • Skip182

        yeah this lady’s a bitch.

  • Josh

She is absolutely gorgeous and hilarious.

  • Cris

Hang on … so Star Wars fans can’t get laid in high school, but her Suzuki violin-playing kids will?
Ah well, she’s too stunning and too funny on Modern Family to get too upset about that…

    • Johnification

      I think it was a joke…

  • Ceballos

That sound you hear is my nerdy heart breaking…oh well, there’s always Sofia Vergara!

    • Ambient Lite

Such a sad sound, I’ve heard it before. Hang in there. ;)

    • Madd

In high school a nerdy guy told me I was “a hot cheerleader who liked Star Wars” while trying to flirt with me. It’s probably the nicest thing that’s ever been said to me, but I was a b**** then and completely ignored him.
He ended up engaged to the Homecoming Queen though. So nerds can find love. Just hang in there.

      • Ceballos

Oh no worries…I’ve been with my girlfriend for the better part of seven years and despite her Claire Dunphy-like eye rolls and constant exasperation, I get the feeling that she actually likes that I’m a gigantic dork.

My nerdy heart was just breaking as far as celebrity crushes go. Oh well, there are plenty of other (completely unattainable) fish in the sea.

      • Ambient Lite

Oh, I was only teasing, I’m sure your girlfriend DOES like that you’re a dork. I certainly love my own adorkable hubby! I do my share of eye-rolling, but geeks are hot!

      • Madd

Yeah, exactly- I love my husband’s adorkableness.
As far as unattainable celebrity crushes go, I get it. Two words: Jon. Hamm.

      • Skip182

You go Ceballos! (but try to convert her too a nerd too)

  • Zo

She’s definitely gotta be at the top of the MILF club, but I’ve seen her in many interviews, and I really don’t care for her personality. Kind of abrasive. But she’s fantastic on what has become my new favorite show, so I really don’t care much.

  • Sara

Julie’s aging amazingly! She’s soooo much hotter than in Happy Gilmore!

  • Alia

You know, I’ve always liked her because she played nice characters, but form this article, it sounds like she’s kind of a jerk in real life. (Also, nerds are awesome. Leave them alone.)

  • stuffwehate

love her!! And yeah she’s right about the Sith lord thing.

    LMAO

  • Anonymous

Yeah, my super geeky friends who totally used to play Magic: The Gathering and were all into computers and LAN parties and nerdiness are just NEVER getting laid. Except that they’re all actually pretty damn promiscuous these days, and with these girls who are actually very nice and cute. (And they all make really good money.) So…I hope she realizes that the kids who are geeky in high school grow out of the awkwardness in college and GET. IT. ON. when they’re actually old enough to be able to handle it responsibly. It creeps me out that there’s this expectation for high school kids to start having sex and that if any kids don’t, they must not be cool enough. They’re KIDS! I didn’t do it in high school and I will do everything I can to convince my kids that it’s a dumb idea at that age and that they need to wait a few more years. Rant aside, Julie Bowen is kind of hilarious and I love Modern Family!

    • furiousk

May I direct you to a wonderful memoir called “Superstud: Or How I Became a 24-Year-Old Virgin” by the very wonderful Paul Feig?

  • couchgrouch

Julie’s great but why is she wearing my old Pink Floyd poster?

  • Vivi

    Fantastic interview! Appreciate her more.

  • Xine

Star wars nerds are awsome… they end up making lots of money.

    • who cares

no it just seems that way because they don’t have to pay rent to live in their mom’s basements.
