Training Day scribe David Ayer is set to write and direct the update of the classic kill-em-all action pic, in which the future Governator starred as a government agent forced out of retirement to rescue his daughter from an evil dictator.
So who’s up for filling Arnie’s shoes, you ask? We’ve got a few nominees: How about Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, star of the upcoming A-Team movie and professional UFC bone-breaker? Or maybe Channing Tatum, if he’s ready to rumble again getting mushy in Dear John? Or maybe you swap “father” for “brother” in the movie’s pitch and cast an up-and-comer like Twilight star Taylor Lautner? Come to think of it, who says it has to be a guy? Something tells us Angelina Jolie could take out a maniacal despot and still make it home in time for Shiloh’s afternoon nap.

I’m sorry but all of the suggestions in the article are beyond stupid – Taylor Lautner, are you are on his payroll or have a crush on him? The original was great, no need to remake it, no real tough guys anymore, just a bunch of wimps.

Really now, if you are going to talk about the greatest action star of all time you should know when his movie came out. 1987 was Predator and Running Man, Commando is from 1985…know your facts! And please, no remake on this classic Arnie movie!
This movie should NOT be remade. Just like the karate kid should not have been remade. Some things are just pop culture royalty and shouldn’t be sullied by crappy remakes. Aren’t there any original ideas out there anymore?
No, there aren’t. Every story has been told. Why can’t people grasp that concept? Every single film, every single story you see is inspired, based on, adapted from or an offshoot of something previously established. What matters is how those familiar tropes are presented.
Which still doesn’t justify a remake. Use the same basic plot by all means, but don’t cash in on the title and affection people have for the original. The whole reason people like Commando is because it’s absurd. This being the age of miserablist entertainment, they’ll want to make it ‘gritty’ and ‘realistic’ – and a PG. Ugh.

If they stay true to the original in style, The Rock would be perfect. If they’re going for something a little more 21st century, it’s got Statham written all over it.

I can’t take Channing Tatum seriously, he bugs the crap out of me. I don’t know that Gerard Butler would work,if they’re going for the original style, why not Steve Austin? For a 21st century take, Statham would be my only pick.

Why does it have to be a remake? Can’t they just make a new movie using the concept as inspiration? That way you can do anything you want and no one will compare it to the original. Stop remakes, do something you can actually take credit for.
THE ROCK is the most obvious candidate,but his box office prowess has been tarnished as of late. If SALT becomes another action hit for Angelina, I bet the powers that be might consider her. I think it’s a great idea that gives the concept an awesome spin. Sigourney in ALIENS and Uma in Kill Billproved that maternal instincts will lead a woman to kill, maim and pulverize anything/anyone in her path to protect/rescue/save her child.
