M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender is about the lone Avatar who can control all four elements — Air, Water, Earth, and Fire — and his fight to restore balance when the Fire nation gets a little pissy. I’m paraphrasing. Watch the new trailer after the jump and tell me which element you’d want to control. Assuming the ability to encase an enemy in ice as you flip over him is Water (as opposed to Air?), Water has my vote. Plus, I think it will look the coolest in 3-D, assuming Paramount’s post-conversion does, in fact, look cool. What’s your early verdict?

Wow… Jackson Rathbone (SP – sorry) looks so different without all the crazy Cullen hair.
For once, can we not make something 3D? Its OK, I’ll just wait till it comes out on DVD.
Every 3D movie is also released in 2D. You don’t have to wait for that reason.
its also out in 2D you know.
I agree with you…water is what I’d want to control because its so versatile…also female water benders have healing abilities which I would totally rock!!
in the first one, he learns how to water-bend so expect the sequel to show lots of awesome earth-bending (my favorite)… i am so very excited for this movie.
Oh my. I don’t know whether I should be excited that M. Night Shyamalan is going to have a success on his hands, or disappointed because I am one of the very few who enjoys the majority of his work. (I say majority of his work because Lady in the Water was landmark crap and The Happening just didn’t do it for me)
OHHHH JESUS LOOKS SO GOOD, IM A BIG FAN OF THE SHOW,
AND IM SO EXITED ABOUT THIS TRAILER.
I have to admit, I actually like the animated version, though I haven’t seen it in a while. So yes, I’m totally psyched for this.
Looks good, but hold the post-conversion. I saw “Clash of the Titans” in post-conversion 3D, and once bitten, twice shy, as they say.
This really looks pretty cool.
Like Joey, I’m a fan of Shyamalan’s, but it was DEFINITELY time that he took a break and directed something he didn’t write. He was starting to go a little too far up his own a$$ and seeing him seemingly cut loose with this movie kinda rocks. (Look out for the twist ending!)
“Like, at the end of The Sixth Sense, you find out the dude in the hairpiece the whole time, that’s Bruce Willis!”

Whoa, spoiler alert, Madd!
“What’s an M. Night?”
I can’t wait!!
I love it ♥
I adore this show. I watched it with my brother who was the prime age for a awesome kids trying to save the world type show. I’m super-apprehensive, though, to see this movie. As awesome as M. Night Shyamalan + random TV show into movie sounds, the TV show itself is so…! I don’t know. I’m still seeing it though, but cautiously. I hope they get Sokka right…
1) I’m looking forward to this b/c my “husband” is an Avatar fan. but,
2) I’m afraid of a shamaloodle “twist”. Been sick of him since his only good movie, the 6th sense.
Even if you can’t be bothered to learn to pronounce is (SHA-ma-lan — pretty easy, really), being unable to copy the spelling from the article just makes you look stupid.
I’m excited about this movie, I watched a couple of episodes of the cartoon but didn’t get into it (because it was a cartoon) but was really intrigued by the mythology behind it. When I found out a film was being made I was excited.
Only because it was a cartoon? Tons of cartoons are wonderful shows, ie Simpsons, and are perfectly suited for adults.
Don’t let the fact that it’s a cartoon dissuade you.
Night got into the franchise because he got into the “cartoon”.
Plenty of kids and their parents loved the show.
at the end of the movie, we learn that the main character is really a dead superhero who can kill aliens with a bucket of water
Oh, God I can’t even wait for this. It looks even better than I thought it would when I first heard about it over two years ago!!
We love Avatar: The Last Airbender but we are so disappointed to see this and Prince of Persia dragging us back to the 60s with a bunch of white people getting tans and standing in for Asians. I mean if they made a movie of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air with a bunch of actors in dark make up or major tans there’d be a riot. That the director is Asian himself just makes it seem all the more bizarre. Chinese, Japanese Inuit, Tibetan and Indian; that pretty much sums up the characters in the show, so what’s up with the movie?
It’s kind of a disgrace the way they cast this film and between that and the Clash of The Titans inspired, last minute 3Difying none of us are too hopefully here. Oh and it seems to be trying to fit the whole of Book one into one movie, one medium length movie. It surely needs either 2 movies or a Lord of The Rings type length to fit the important points in.
I completely agree with you, there are only a handful of Asian actors in the movie, so why put loads of white actors in the place of what should be an entire cast of Asian actors. They can’t say for marketing purposes – there are many movies that have been hugely successfull with all Asian casts – for example, Crouching Tiger Hidden Drago and Hero. And M.Night should have to answer as to why he allowed this.
I don’t get why everyone’s making a huge deal about this race thing. Go to imdb. There’s a lot more mixed race actors in this movie than a lot of you are making there out to be. Sure they might not all be asian, but this isn’t the cartoon. Movies are allowed poetic license. Besides, I really don’t think Shyamalan was trying to make any kind of statement. It’s his own interpretation, and that’s how he’s making the movie. and for god’s sake, the guy’s not even white. You’re all making it out to be some huge conspiracy orchestrated by The White Man.
I agree. I’m still upset about the casting choice but love the treatment it’s getting.
The entire voice acting cast of the tv show was white with the exception of Prince Zuko and Uncle Iroh. There are more Asian actors in this movie than there were Asian actors working on the tv show.
Haha, this looks SOOOO EPIC (a word that I normally only associate with Lord of the Rings or Star Wars movies)!!! I am a fan of the show, but I will try not to be too picky about every little detail (after all if the cartoon transfered into the movie entirely, what would there be to look forward to other than some better effects?). Oh and to all those people thinking this movie is racist, I say this: For the most part, the nations are different races…Earth is asian (not yet seen because Book 1 is NOT in earth kingdom), Fire is Indian (which makes sense really-I mean if they love the sun they should be a darker complection), water is white (common people, they live in the north/south pole, they should be pale!) and airbenders, which might be asian as well (the monks have yet to be seen, and Aang, though white, looks asian even with his hair…). So Yeah, SUPER STOKED for this!!! I estimate it ranking it $300million+ domestically (GOOD for M Night), and I’ll be paying my share towards that at midnight July 2!!!
I don’t get the whole “whitewashed” thing. If they’re good actors, they should be cast, regardless of race.
You have to remember, AtLA is an American cartoon that has Asian influence. And Water Tribe is not Caucasian, they look more Inuit/Native American to me. Fire? Zuko in the cartoon is pale, as is Iroh, and Azula. And all others from the Fire Nation. Earth Kingdom, they’re also white. Air Temples, they looked inspired by Tibetan monks. Therefore Asian.
