How nice that you and your pal Jessica Shaw have decided for the rest of America that the competition is over and it’s a Crystal/Lee finale. If anything should happen to interfere with that prediction, for example if Siobhan crashes the party, then you will say it’s a conspiracy or some other bit of nonsense. Can’t you let this thing play out, for heaven’s sake? Or are you afraid that Siobhan is going to blow the roof off the place, get her mojo back and mess up all your plans? Your bias is showing and it’s not pretty. Shame on both of you! No real review, just petty carping about people you have decided to hate on with so much energy. Maybe I just need to stop listening to you and keep voting for Siobhan!
Idolatry is getting as lame as the judges with it’s total bias to Bowersox. Maybe they are getting paid by 19 entertainment too.
Siobhan has had 5 weeks to turn in a decent performance and has failed each and every time. I’ve given up on her. I just wish she’d go away already–her screaming and her backtalking.

Paul is another person that appears to swallow everything the judges shovel. 3 weeks in a rowm Magnus has sung difficult songs note perfect. Her studio recordings of the full “Across the Universe” and “When You Believe” are brilliant, especially the latter, and without some of the breathing and nasalness of the live performances.
MindyM – I am voting for Siobhan, though I also like Lee and Crystal. But the judges have been pretty unfair to her recently. And because of that I not only a couple for her and 1 for Lee, I also add a vote for each judge I thought was biased. Lest week that meant 3 extra votes for Siobhan.
I don’t even particularly care for Lee, but it’s been pretty obvious just from watching the show as well as looking at trends on DialIdol* that, barring a major game changing performance from one of the remaining contestants, that these two are the final two. Exactly what other option is there? Siobhan and Casey both have raw talent but no real clue about what they want to do with it other than “have fun”. Mike and Aaron are just run of the mill competent contestants.

they’re just stating the inevitable. Last year they predicted that it would be a Danny-Adam final two because the judges were obviously going for it but then Kris Allen (thankfully) came along and changed that. The year before they predicted a Davids final two and it happened. These statements are nothing more than predictions. They have “decided for the rest of America”

In case you haven’t noticed from season’s past, Sleazak always picks a favorite (Allison last year, Castro the year before). He has a right to express his opinion and share it in his Idolatry videos and recaps. He’s not a news reporter who suppose to be unbiased. He’s an entertainment critic and huge fan of Idol. Besides, it’s hard not to heavily facor Crystal this year. She’s by far the best

I just read your comments and had to come back on here and say – Bravo! Thank you for saying what I have been feeling! What on earth is with all the love for Lee? You are so right! Pitchy, but no matter, still great! NOT!! He sounds so generic. You could hear this on the radio any time. But he is the chosen one who has to lose to the ultimate chosen one – Crystal! I don’t see the commercial appeal of Crystal, either, although I like her voice. But the way Slezak and company have been insanely pimping her on this site, is just a total turn-off!

they have been pimping her because she is the only one who delivers a great performance every single week..and this misguided notion that crystal sounds the same every week is ludicrous..go back and review the range of songs she has covered from folk to rock to rhythm and blues..to gospel..with a guitar..on the piano..and now without an instrument at all..and as far as her range..well some of the great artists of all time had limited range in their vocals,it’s
what they do with that range that matters..how they make it sound..and as far as commercial appeal,go to youtube and check out the comments under her original songs there,people are dying for a cd from her,now all that being said..I thought at the start of this season that siobhan and crystal were clearly to two best,and I do think siobhan has received some unfair criticism from the judges,but I want her to get back to the Paint it Black,House of the Rising Sun Siobhan..I thought she was fantastic both of those weeks
the problem with all of this “commercial appeal” c-r-a-p is that those “artists” usually suck – - most of your best vocalist/artists selling out stadiums now actually started their commercial success when people had taste in music (real/non-synthesized/non-auto-tuned/ real instument MUSIC and VOCALS). Crystal sounds better live than in her idolized studio recording. I would buy a ticket to see her live – - no doubt.

Lee’s “The Boxer” was the best performance of the night. I think Crystal’s “People Get Ready” was very overrated. I found it as boring as Siobhan, BM and Aaron’s performances. Needless to say, I agree with Jessica’s assessment of Crystal’s performance. However, I disagree with her comment about Lee. I would definitely buy Lee’s CD. He is the only contestant this season who I continually download his iTunes.

This is a singing competition. Too many people get hung up on what the contestants look like. In regards to Chrystal, did the poster ever consider that the gaps in Crystal’s teeth might be natural. Not everyone has the money for costly dental work. Big Mike can sing, but the lifting of someone every week as his trademark is off putting. I still like Lee’s and Casey’s voices although I agree that sometimes Casey seems a bit too casual about this being a competition. Siobhan needs to go back to her earlier style of singing if she wants to stay in. She can sing, but she needs to not be a one trick pony with the notes. Even Adam Lambert was a bit annoying at times with the high notes. I still think he is a great singer. Wonder if they will be able to have a duet night with the top 4 this year?
You know who I miss? Gokey. He provided the most hilarious Idoltry fodder of all time. You know who else I miss? Kradison. I have season 9 ennui.

I have to disagree about Siobhan. First of all, I think she is by far the strongest singer in the competition, she is doing things easily that the others wouldn’t even attempt. I like her post judgement explanations, it’s better than the same old “I had fun” routine. Also she’s a gorgeous girl with great fashion sense. What’s not to like? Also, not being able to comprehend a person being able to sing multiple styles tells me that you’re a moron.
I don’t care about fashion. I don’t care what a person looks like. I don’t care that a person can hit a series of notes.
I want to hear someone deliver a song with passion and conviction, and make me believe what they are singing is really coming from their heart. Siobhan doesn’t and hasn’t, and probably won’t. I liked her at first, but she’s become self-indulgent and petulant and annoying.

And what do you mean she doesn’t deliver songs with pssion and conviction, did you not hear “Across the Universe”, I thought she was really in touch with “When You Believe” also. And if she is self indulgent so what? She’s doing it her way and more power to her, I’d rather have her do it that way then change herself to appease people who don’t appreciate her.
There is more to singing than just hitting the notes. If that were the extent of it, everyone would just sing the scales, and if that were the case, Siobhan MIGHT impress me. “Pure talent” requires more than just perfunctory delivery of musical notes. I don’t feel her connecting to any of her songs, nor do I feel her connecting with the audience. It’s all about her, how she looks, how properly she enunciates, how longingly she stares into the camera, how shiny her lips are. Ugh. There’s no communication of anything other than…”LOOK AT ME!!!! I CAN HIT NOTES!”
Again, she has connected beautifully with many of her songs, especially HOTRS, “Across the Universe” and “When You Believe”, I felt her conviction on every single one of those songs. I’m not saying she’s the most emotionally in tune of the contestants but when you put in the entire package she is easily the best. Also, she SHOULD be self indulgent, she’s the one who is performing her first duty is to herself, not the audience, she has a ton of fans who love her for what she does already, why should she change who she is to appeal to the lowest common denominater? She is above that, and she is the best this season when it comes to the total package.
A singer is basically a story teller. What good is a story teller without the audience? If her first duty is to herserlf, then why doesn’t she just stay home and sing to the mirror? Self-indulgence is not the sign of a true artist. A great artist gets lost in the story, not the other way around.
And LOL at the Lowest Common Denominator. Really? Her fans are just the commoners and she is the queen? Wow. Delusional, Much?
Nobody is saying change who she is, except the self-indulgent, it’s all about me part, that is. That’s just never attractive or admirable. It’s laughable and annoying.
A great artist stays true to his or her self no matter what, as Ayn Rand said “Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life…” Siobhan is never going to please everybody so her first duty is to please herself. She is doing that and that is the most admirable thing about her.
If she’s more pleased with showboating and drawing attention to herself than delivering a truly great performance, then good for her.
But it’s still self-indulgence. Nothing admirable about it.
She isn’t “showboating” she is using her talent. Her performances HAVE been great, she is the superior singer of the competition and that is the most important part, and to say that she hasn’t connected emotionally is delusional because she certainly has.
Quoting you in an earlier post “I’m not saying she’s the most emotionally in tune of the contestants…” Again, there is more to singing than hitting the notes. Yes, she can hit some impressive notes. But if she were the superior performer, she wouldn’t need all the props and distraction. She’d just come out an deliver. She doesn’t. She did at the beginning, and I liked her then, but since Paint it Black it’s like she’s lost any connection to anything except fashion. It’s all about the costumes now. Boring songs, old fashioned delivery, technically ok, but WOW!!!! CHECK OUT THAT COSTUME!!!!
Her costumes are about setting a mood, and they work, they aren’t distracting they are part of the overall performance. Now, it is true there is more to singing than hitting the notes, but Siobhan DOES do more than just hit the notes. There is also more than just emotion, Lee for instance had emotion, but was pitchy throughout his entire song. Siobhan has a great balance of the two.

I love how people regurgitate the stuff about how Crystal will sell gobs and gobs of material because she hits one aspect of commercial success “true to herself in her genre”. But then instantly dismiss Siobhans package of items that may contribute to her success – killer good looks, artistic approach, distinctive fashion style, and powerful wide range vocals. And add that Magnus is now making absolutely superb recordings in studio.
To hear some – those items cannot be true because Simon Cowell&Co, have not mentioned them. And Big Mike is of course better, because Simon & Co. praise Big Mike to no end for his adorable personality, his ability to create life, and his wonderful music.
Her costume was the subject of numerous articles and blog posts. They weren’t talking about her amazing delivery, so it was a distraction, based on the evidence.

At least Siobhan is not a stinky, dreadlocked, toothless hippie with no fashion sense at all like Bowersux who does the SAME performance every week, messes up lyrics on Beatles songs, brings out lame “earthy hippie” props like dirty blankets and ridiculous “lamp mic stands” and has phony breakdown “cry cry” sessions at the end of her songs. Siobhan is truly gifted and it is quite obvious so get over it already.

If you think Siobhan has “great fashion sense” then I’d hate to see what you wear from day to day. Her outfits are distracting which is probably intentional due to the fact that people are starting to see right through her. I have yet to “believe” one of her performances, no matter how well she may sing a song. Crystal is so genuine, but Siobhan seems too contrived and unconvincing. Not to mention, her song choices have been horrific of late, proving immaturity.

Another week, another batch of eye-rolls at Big Mike’s overbearing personality while completely ignoring his singing, which remains the second-best in the competition, A.B. (After Bowersox).
Sorry, guys, but rejecting a season 9 American Idol contestant who has any level of musical talent based on something completely unrelated to said talent? If that’s not a perfect illustration of beggars acting like choosers, I don’t know what is.

Sorry BruceL, but good vocals in pursuit of godawful music is still godawful music. Big Mike’s problems go past certain personally repellant things about him – to the fact he comes across as a less talented and inauthentic Reuben Studdard. And even Studdard is having a hard time getting anyone to buy self-indulgent soul-love music that has been dead about as long as disco.
You’re not 100% wrong, but as I said in my original post, we’re not talking about some hypothetical fantasy version of the show where there’s more than one or two better choices. We’re talking about this season of Idol as it really is. And the reality of this season of Idol is that Mike is a very good singer more often than not, competing against at least two other guys who aren’t, a guy (an apparent front-runner, if you believe Slezak) and a girl who have little to no consistency, and Crystal.
We Idol fans are beggars this year, in a big way, and rejecting one of two consistently good singers left in the competition, just because he doesn’t have the makings of an interesting post-Idol artist, is far pickier than we have any right to be with this crop of finalists.
Doctor Who, yeah I love it.
Now back to AI. I hate this season. I’m not voting anymore. The producers already decided who’s going to win. Lee is overrated.
