'Party Down' returns tonight! Bowties for all!

party_downImage Credit: Starz EntertainmentParty Down returns for its second season tonight, and as someone who has watched the first season…oh, seven or eight times at this point, all I can say is finally. Or that’s what I would say if I weren’t laughing so hard. Come for the cynical banter, stay for the absurd celebrity cameos! Ugh, this show is the best.

The sardonic cater-waiter comedy is minus one of its first-season stand-outs, though: Jane Lynch. As much as I miss her character, the show still works just fine: Megan Mullally has stepped in as Lydia, and oversharing lame-o stage mother. Party Down captures that weird environment between workplace Stockholm Syndrome and straight-up coworker hate-lust — and turns it into a goofy ensemble comedy. While the characters are often bitter, misguided, and even mean-spirited, the show itself never is. Do Casey and Henry, my favorite will-they-won’t-they couple at the moment, believe in love and romance? Not really. Does their little pas de deux make me believe in it? Maybe a little…

You can watch the first two episodes here and marvel at the wonder that is Martin Starr in a gothrock outfit.

Are you as into Party Down as I am, PopWatchers?

I cannot wait!! I’ve seen the first season over and over too, I’m so excited. Although I must say I really don’t want Henry and Casey together. She was such a miserable bitch to him most of last season. I want him and Kristen Bell together! Ken marino has always been one of my favorite comic actors ever since The State, he’s wonderful on this show! But Roman is my absolute favorite. Cannot wait! This show is just perfect in every way.

The first episode of the second season was up on Fancast since the beginning of the week, which is awesome for me since I don’t have Starz. I only got to catch first season because it was available for instant viewing on Netflix. Awesome show though. I love Adam Scott. Glad to be seeing him on two of my favorite comedies.

This show is so good, how it was completely ignored by Emmy even though it is 1000x better than overrated crap like “The Office” and “30 Rock”. It had some of the best guest performances on a comedy as well and none of them were nominated. Some of the best were Enrico Colantoni, Stephen Weber, Joey Lauren Adams – nice to see her back and loving her on “United States of Tara”, JK Simmons, and the suburb Molly Parker – who can do anything -> somebody give her a full time TV gig immediately!!!!

Very good, very original idea very well executed by an exceptional cast lead by Adam Scott and Ken Marino. I loved it when the awesome Jennifer Coolidge seamlessly stepped into Jane Lynch’s large shoes. Meghan Mullally doesn’t have either of those women’s talent, but I’ll trust the writers.

Also, thank Rob Thomas for being the only person who knows how to use Kristen Bell. Its nice to see Ms. Bell shine as “Uda”. Stop making bombs “Veronica”, stick with Rob’s words.

With the awesomeness that was “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” on temporary hold, Starz is really stepping up on the comedy side as well. “Gravity” is getting slammed by critics but I’ll give it a try simply because Kristen Ritter never disappoints even when she is stuck in bad material.

I have only seen a few eps of the first season, but I can’t believe I haven’t watched it more. I will DVR it tonight and try to keep up this season. I caught one where Ken Marino was showing his junk to a porn producer and I almost died at the grotesque prosthetic they had him slapping around. Hilarious.

OMG – this show is soooooo good! Being a huge, huge, VM fan! And, I love how old VM alums drop by on the Party Down scene! Thank god for Netflix – where I re-watch PD epis! I never re-watch tv shows, but Party Down is amongst the few that I do (others include, VM, Arrested Development, and Supernatural. But now I have to wait another month before the new season is streamed! I hope more people tune into the geniousness that is PD!

First season was a riot! I liked Megan Mullaly’s character. She brings her own kookooness to a delightfully kookoo show.

This show was definitely a hidden gem last year. I really hope it gets its due this time around. The acting is subtly brilliant, which really helps the show stand up to multiple viewings.

Joe LoTruglio was easily my favorite guest star from season one. Please bring him back. Dron must reunite for the sake of humanity.
