Image Credit: Michael Yarish/FoxI was a DVR victim last night. And the worst thing is, I saw it coming. I fast-forwarded through American Idol to watch the performances, then eagerly clicked on Glee…. It was still Idol. I knew Peter (my DVR/life partner) would cut off the end, even though he didn’t want to, and of course, he did. Right after Finn told Jesse to walk with him to the auditorium. A Fox spokesperson tells EW, ”While the producers always aim to end the show on time, American Idol is a live performance show and as with all live programming, there are unpredictable elements that affect running time.” I get that. You could argue that if Glee means that much to me, I might want to pad the record time to allow for Idol overage. But I can’t. Not when Tuesday at 10 p.m. involves Justified and Parenthood (and The Good Wife, which returns next week — tip, Peter will then record the 11 p.m. Justified repeat). After the jump, watch what you missed if you also found yourself yelling at your TV — the “Like a Prayer” ensemble number, complete with a gospel choir. I got chills. Kurt’s voice has never sounded more angelic.
UPDATE: Fox will repeat the episode Friday at 9 p.m. EST.

This is much appreciated! I felt your pain even if I hadn’t named my DVR.
I live on the West Coast and luckily, on my PVR I can watch the East Coast feed of Glee from 6-7 and then if I miss anything watch it again from 9-10 West Coast. Thank God because the same thing happened to me. Don’t you guys have this back up option too?
Not all the time. Only East Coast feed I can get is ABC, because the other 3 networks refuse to allow Dish customers to buy their East Coast feeds. Only reason I get ABC is that in our area, you can’t pull it in without an antenna.
I feel for you. I guess this is one of the rare times I am happy I still use a VCR (you read that right) to tape things. Ahh, low tech.
Me too!
me, three!!
But the problem she stated was that she had two shows to watch or tape at the beginning of the next hour – how does your VCR help?
I don’t have cable and only get one channel with any clarity. Even though I only have 2 vcr’s I only ever need one max. I have to watch everything online.
I didn’t think I was going to make it to see last night’s Glee so I set my DVR (Herbie) to keep recording 10 mins. after the show was expected to end. After all these years watching ‘Idol,’ it came as second nature.
Also, for those who love the song, buy the CD. The extended version is amazing.
Thank you SO much for posting this! When I found out what I missed last night, I was SO upset, so it’s nice that I got a chance to watch it here…They did a great job with the song – I’ve never been a big Madonna fan, but I am a big fan of the Glee versions of Madonna’s songs!
This episode was BRILLIANT. Can’t wait to get ‘em on my iPod! But the more I see Lea Michele, the more I think she looks like Elizabeth Reaser from Twilight…hmmm.
Lea Michele looks like Elizabeth Reaser? I think not.
uh…no.
Idina Menzel? Yes. Elizabeth Reaser? Not so much, no.
I see both Idina and Elizabeth. Lea has Elizabeth’s nose/mouth region.
It’s the square jaw and full lips. I can see it a little.
We can’t watch Hulu here in Canada can you post another link pls & thx
You can watch the whole episode on Global’s website!
Thanks for pointing that out…I was getting bummed out.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! My DVR cut off too, and this was the one I MOST wanted to see (favorite Madonna song).
I’m surprised Santana was able to be that near a gospel choir without getting hit by lightning. heh
Please tell me that was a Beavis and Butthead reference so I don’t feel like an idiot for thinking so.
Ummm…sadly, no – er, it could be given how many hours I used log watching them – but I was just referring to her being a whore. ha
You could say the same about Puck. He sleeps with anyone and got Quinn pregnant.
Or are you saying only women sleeping around is bad?
Oh my God!!! The same thing happened to me!!
Even though I added one minute past the 9:01 scheduled time in my tv grid.
I run mine 3 minutes past, and it still got cut off. Grr!
I did 2mins and poof. But luckily, I watched the last 10mins of Glee live so I did see Like a Prayer. I’ve learned in the past to set my DVR 2-3mins past its end time. Thanks EW!
It was scheduled to start here at 7:59, I think, but my daughter pointedly said, “It’s 7:59 and American Idol is still on.” I reprogrammed the DVR twice to add extra time, and I think I ended up adding 5 minutes. We watched it live, anyway, but always record it just in case.
I thought I was the only one! It went off suddenly and I was yelling “Why did you let me down Divver (my unimaginative nickname for my DVR)?” Thanks for the post.
Haha…I call my DVR ‘Divver’ too. I also thought I was the only one this happened to. I dug up the ending on Hulu this morning; I couldn’t wait!
No offense, but the appearance of eight Madonna clones, in various guises, as a background to a mini music video was the highlight of the show.
Dude, I SO agree. That was hilarious.
Loved that part!
Yeah, I stopped and started to make sure I caught all of them.
hilarious… and semi-subtle.
BTWs, was that actual Jayma Mays’ voice in her part of the “like a virgin” segment? It felt like it didn’t fit her.
She definitely sang in the song, but I feel like her parts were layered with Lea’s voice.
Jayma has a pretty nice voice, but they cut in and out so quickly in that song that it’s hard to tell who’s singing what, and there are definitely times when all of them are layered over each other. I’m glad they gave Naya Rivera a chance to shine, though. She’s got pipes! They should let her solo!
Thank you for this!
You are a lifesaver. I’ve been obsessively checking Hulu for this clip since last night. As for those American Idol jerks, there’s no reason that show can’t end on time. If the judges blather on too long between performances then Seacrest just has to cut his own moronic commentary short. It’s not like they don’t know how long the songs are. So, so annoying. This never used to be a problem.
It’s completely unnecessary to bash Idol just because you missed something that you can watch 50 million times on the internet the next day. And besides, the “Like a Prayer” performance wasn’t that great. There were far better numbers (“Like a Virgin”, “Borderline/Open Your Heart”, “4 Minutes”, “Vogue”). And “Like a Prayer” had NOTHING to do with the storyline. So nothing was missed but a music video that was going to be uploaded in a matter of hours. So stop crying. And be more logical with your DVRs because there’s no such thing as a live show that ends on time.

Amen sister – American Idol is so – put a fork in it…. done.
The Glee version of this song is amazing… HOWEVER, this cliff-notes barebones version they did on the show last night isnt. They really need to stop cutting the big episode-finale numbers so horribly.
Totally agree with you.The song doesn’t sound that great the way they edited for the episode.I had already heard the full version this was dissapointing.I think it is a plot on their part to get people to pay to download thee full song.
I felt the same way, I was hoping to see Jenna and J. Groff sing their verses in the episode. Really can’t complain though, because this is phenomenal.
Yes! They cut out Jonathan Groff’s entire solo, and he does a great job of it! Come on, PTB, I promise I’ll download it either way.
FYI–the video is unavailable.
It was amazing how many people missed the ending because Fox didn’t give the cable operators the correct scheduling time (and Idol running over).
Well, to be fair (to Idol? Whaaaaa?!), it’s a live show and it’s harder to predict that sort of thing. I’m more surprised that it DOESN’T usually happen.
If your live telecast runs over, suck it up and give the advertisers back their money for the last set of commercials you should have cut.
You can go to Fox.com; you have to scroll through the entire show to get to the end though. I did it this morning. I was watching LOST and then went to the DVR and once I saw AI…I knew it would happen.
I was a fellow DVR cutoff/Idol victim, so I got up early this morning to Hulu it, and it was great! Actually, even if it wasn’t, it would have driven me crazy to miss the last 5 minutes of a show. And SO glad to see I wasn’t alone and people shared my pain!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! My DVR cut off too, and I completely forgot to “pad” the time… won’t happen again! Missed the best performance of the night :^)
I was livid. Idol has stunk this season and has now been removed from the “schedule recordings” of my DVR. No more listening to bad singing when I could have watched this amazing performance from GLEE. Thanks for posting it!
