Stewart and Colbert extend Comedy Central contracts through 'Indecision 2012'

daily-show-colbert-reportImage Credit: Norman Jean Roy; Martin CrookJon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have reached separate deals with Comedy Central to stay in their late-night chairs through the next presidential election. Stewart’s deal keeps him hosting The Daily Show through June 2013, while Colbert is now committed to The Colbert Report through the end of 2012. South Park may have been the series that truly put the network on the map (and remains its most beloved scripted fare), but there’s no question Stewart and Colbert are what gives it its cred. In a PopWatch poll just last week, Stewart and Colbert were voted readers’ favorite late-night tandem, with 44 percent of the vote. Since Stewart took over The Daily Show in 1999, it’s earned 32 Emmy nominations, including a record seven consecutive nods for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series. The Report has garnered 15 Emmy nominations since we were introduced to the word “truthiness” in 2005, including four consecutive nominations in that category.

Can you imagine a Comedy Central without Stewart of Colbert? Why would you want to?

Love these two – make every night that much more entertaining. This is just great news.

Agreed! I’m overseas right now and watching the Daily Show keeps me sane! They’re sometimes so brutally honest/sarcastic and I love it! Plus, the formidable opponent sketch on the Colbert Report is HILARIOUS!

Dear T – This is not a Pathetic Losers Dating site. No person in the Air Force would say “I am an Air Force…” How desperate are you?

  • llevinso

They do have the best election coverage. I couldn’t imagine Indecision 2012 without them.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Colbert needs new schtick. It’s a one-note impression of O’Reilly. Way to beat a dead horse.

      • Vnova

hey, kitty — I think Colbert is doing just fine. What planet are you living on?

I personnally liked The Daily Show better when it was a comedy show. Today, the show is little more than a mean-spirited propaganda machine.

    • Jason

I see your point. The Daily Show’s humor may be a little over your teabag straddlin’ head. I suggest switching over to Fox. They always crack me up on that network.

Insulting other people doesn’t make you any smarter, only proves your own insecurity and self-loathing.

      • blork

Actually, Dad – Insulting Losers like you makes me feel like a million dollars and also like a brilliant genius. And where do you get this crap about about “self-loathing?” Don’t project your issues onto me, pal.

Glenn Beck’s comedy show is much funnier than the Daily Show. It is a comedy show, right?

      • Vnova

Hey, did you see that amazing 15 min. skit sendup of Glenn that Jon did a few weeks ago? High-larious!

I especially like it when they expose the lies on FOX by reporting the facts not the spin.

  • Ramo

Great news. Isn’t it amazing how these shows produce smarter, funnier, sharper comedy/commentary every show, four times a week than the now-pathetic Saturday Night Live comes up with on a quasi-weekly basis?

Love, love, LOVE these guys. I’ve always thought of TDS, at least, sticking around for a long long time. I actually can’t imagine Comedy Central without them.

  • rey

good and bad. years ago, letterman has expressed interest in stewart possibly replacing him.

stew-beef and colburt work so well together and their shows work so well by themselves.

      STEW-BEEF!!!!

Love these two! Last time bf and I were in nyc we attended a taping of Colbert too – so fun.

Late Night Fight with Stewart, Colbert, and Conan is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Love Colbert, and love the fact that this duo is more highly respected than many “news” anchors. Their audience is smart and savvy, only those not in on the joke think their viewers are pot smoking college students. Keep bringin’ the Truthiness!

  • shels

So glad their contracts have been extended! Don’t know what I would do without them- loved Colbert on TDS and think he is doing a great job on TCR. He is doing more than just an O’Reilly imitation. I find Colbert to be a very gifted performer. His show covers the political but also the topical and pop cultural–much more diverse that TDS.

I have only 2 complaints about both shows and that is that they are only half an hour long and not 7 days a week. When these guys go on vacation there is something missing in my day. ALL THE BEST BOYS!

I don’t know what I’d do without the balancing force of John and Stephen. Someone has to make sure Fox is not taken seriously. :)
