'Paper Man' trailer: Ryan Reynolds is a superhero once again

Jeff Daniels stars as Richard Dunn, a struggling novelist who never really grew up, in Paper Man, a dramedy opening next Friday. Just as Richard’s wife Claire (Lisa Kudrow) is becoming increasingly frustrated by his antics, he meets Abby (Superbad‘s Emma Stone), a local teenager who’s been forced into early adulthood. Together they form an unlikely bond that eases both of their growing pains, and helps Richard regain his motivation to write. Fans of X-Men, or those anxiously awaiting the release of Green Lantern, can get a serving of the Ryan Reynolds’ specialty, as Reynolds plays Captain Excellent, Richard’s imaginary superhero friend who wants to prove he is still needed in the writer’s life. Watch the trailer after the jump.

A mixture of quirky and sweet, the muted colors of the film’s wintry landscape, and an awkward leading man with an unusual friend all remind me of Lars and the Real Girl, where a soft-spoken Ryan Gosling sweetly imagines a relationship with a doll. Paper Man is written and directed by Kieran and Michele Mulroney (brother and sister-in-law to Dermot Mulroney), and the film made its debut last year at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

What do you think PopWatchers? Looking forward to Ryan Reynolds as a slightly different superhero?

WHATEVER MAN… WHO WOULD EVER THINK THE GUY FROM DREW CAREY AND THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES WOULD VOICE BATMAN? LETS HOLD THE OPINION TRAIN UNTIL YOU SEE THE MOVIE.

Hooray for Ryan Reynolds in tights!

Ryan Reynold has no range, thus the superhero career path he has taken. To me, he is like a Ken doll to me, pretty to look at, but bland as hell, no oomph, no “it” factor, just a pretty package but there’s nothing inside. Maybe Hollywood execs think the same, he doesn’t seem to get the really good roles.

So glad this movie is finally seeing the light of day. Not sure I like the bleached hair on Ryan Reynolds, but looking forward to seeing how he takes on the role.

Totally got the “Lars and the Real Girl” vibe too. Just for that, I would see this movie!

As a tremendous Ryan Reynolds fan, I am excited to see this film. I love his sardonic sense of humor … and he looks HAWT in tights.
