'24' recap: It kills Renee to love Jack so much!

24-President-8amImage Credit: FoxSince the Conan O’Brien news consumed most of my day, I had precious little time to look forward to tonight’s episode. And there was so much to anticipate, starting with the return of the beloved Gregory Itzin (left) as President Logan to the consummation of Jack and Renee’s complicated relationship. Unfortunately, their awkward makeout session against the book case didn’t exactly deliver the climax I was expecting (and no pun intended, I swear).

As I write this, I’m still having a hard time believing that Annie Wersching’s days are numbered on 24 – mostly because I moderated a panel with the actress just two weeks ago and she mentioned something about having met with the screenwriter who’s been commissioned to write the 24 movie. She’s going to be in it! I deduced. Or maybe she was just trying to throw me off the scent because I was hammering her for spoilers. Eh, it doesn’t matter now; as of today, it looks like Renee is out of our lives, and Jack has to wrestle with yet another tragedy in his sad personal life. Color me surprised, truly; this wasn’t the development I was expecting, though Jack’s never had the best luck with women and I’d be a stooge to think it could change now. You?

Though Renee met her maker, it was still a pretty good night for 24′s other powerful women. Chloe got the (temporary) promotion that she deserved, while Dalia was asked to assume her late husband’s post and sign the peace agreement. Let’s address Chloe first: Though our girl doesn’t exactly possess the finest people skills (and so diminutive, too! Arlo could gobble her up in one bite), it was satisfying to see this old character snag the top post at CTU. I bet she gets the position by the series finale, which will surely set the stage for her grand role in the movie. I didn’t care quite as much, however, about Dalia’s insta-election, though it did provide a convenient excuse for Novakovich to back out of the agreement. Will Taylor ever get her world peace?

A newly mended Ethan thinks she can, but only if they turn to President Logan. Enter Itzin, looking as weaselly as ever (and I mean that in the best way possible). Taylor doesn’t like what he’s promising — apparently, he’s got a mysterious card up his sleeve that he can hold over the Russians — but she begrudgingly agrees to have him repair what she couldn’t with Novakovich. Here’s where things are bound to get interesting: Logan’s intentions may be honorable but nothing good can come out of his involvement. If anything, complications are sure to arise with the introduction of cult fave Reed Diamond (Dollhouse) as Logan’s “administrative assistant.” Surely the writers will be giving Diamond much more to do than take dictation and fetch Logan’s dry cleaning, right? I smell another mole…

Back at CTU, Cole learned that he couldn’t rely on Samir’s testimony because a new Russian baddo trained in the art of Dana Walsh subterfuge managed to infiltrate the crime scene and inject Samir with something fatal. This is where Renee’s checkered past caught up to her; the Russian recognized her from her suspicious days with Vlad, so he followed her back to Jack’s lair and positioned himself across the street to get a bird’s eye view of their morning delight. And now, we get to that: Last week’s promos certainly foretold the inevitability of this encounter, but it didn’t make it any more palatable. No offense to Wersching and Kiefer Sutherland, but these actors have zero chemistry — which made their makeout session and subsequent hibidy dibity (however brief) that much harder to, um, swallow. Could it be that I’ve disliked Renee’s character from the start of the season, or I just don’t want anybody to have Kiefer if he can’t have Audrey? All through their uncomfortable nookie, I was impatiently waiting for it to be over — though I certainly didn’t want it to end by having the Russian take Renee out. Dang you, writers — is she really gone from the show? She must be, since we were treated to another silent clock at episode’s end.

Perhaps it is best that I turn the discussion over to you. What did you think of Renee’s death? The series can’t possibly end with Jack suffering from a broken heart. Do you think her departure paves the way for the return of Audrey (played by Kim Raver, who has chemistry and then some with Sutherland)?  As the promos say, 24 is saving “the best for last.” Where do you think the last six hours are headed?

This season has turned around so quickly that it’s got whiplash. It was mediocre there for a bit but now it’s on warp speed towards legendary status. Two silent clocks in a row? Agent Walker is dead? Poor Jack – he can’t take much more of this! The fact that Chloe is in charge of CTU is one of the greatest moments in the history of television! Finish strong, 24!!

    • Brady

I’m inclined to agree. This season started off as just being okay, and it’s still not as good as the best of the show (and I doubt it will be), but we’re definitely getting some great stuff in these final hours. First the death of Hassan and now the death of Renee? I’m very interested and excited to see where this all goes.

      • Klaus

@ Lynette Rice : why did you spoil the episode for those who haven’t seen it yet with such a title? I had no intention of reading your recap until after I had watched the episode (I read it every week btw), but your choice of such a title gave away the biggest plot twist… The title appears on the front page of the website as well. Please be more careful next time.

      • maryb889

@Klaus: You know what I do when I haven’t seen a show that I don’t want spoiled? I DON’T VISIT ENTERTAINMENT WEBSITES. Spoilers lurk everywhere and, to be honest, after the show has aired, all bets are off. Trust me, I know what you’re talking about because I DVR everything and watch very little in real time. However, you have to take responsibility to avoid spoilers if you haven’t seen an already aired show. If you run across them (yes, even in the headlines) you only have yourself to blame.

      • Tim

Waaaah. I grow tired of the whiny spoiler police. It’s the day after the show aired for crying out loud. So what do they do on a Tuesday when they haven’t seen the episode on Monday night? Do they lock themselves in their home and avoid all contact with the outside world? Do they drip hot wax into their ears for when they go out to work, the grocery store or the bank…just to avoid the possibility of accidentally overhearing two people discussing what happened on TV last night? Actually, that’s probably a good idea. I can only imagine the unholy rage that would result if two people behind them in line at the DMV commented on the death of Renee. The spoiler police would probably turn around and scream, “You should say SPOILERS before you start this conversation!!!” And then collapse from spoiler exposure.

      • MDS

I agree this season was moving at a snails pace for the first 12 hours but man has it picked up lately. Sad to see Renee go but I’m excited for some Vengeance motivated Jack.

Also the one thing I don’t want is redemption for Pres. Logan. He is one of the best bad guys in tv history and to redeem him would be an insult to the character.

      • Nihilistic

Klaus, seriously, just go away. Your faux outrage has all the potency of a laryngitis-addled mosquito trying to make a crank call on a public pay phone during a thunderstorm.

      • WhoMe

Nihilistic, seriously just shut up. I wasn’t going to comment on it but her headline spoiled this episode for me too, but this comment has as much ‘faux outrage’ as Klaus’ does, seems like you just “speak” to “hear” yourself “talk”

      • Billiam

I like to read recaps for shows after I watch them, but sometimes I have an episode or two of a different show that I have yet to watch. And the thing is, it really isn’t that hard to NOT put a major character’s death right into the headline.

    • LTC

How do we know she is dead? We didn’t see Renee, we saw a covered lump under a sheet. I don’t think she’s actually dead.

      • Beth

I think the doctor saying “She didn’t make it” was a big fat clue.

      • LTC

This being 24, just because a doctor says something doesn’t make it true. Did we see the dead body, or did I miss that part?

      • SueN

        They showed her face.

      • BauerHour

Well , after we saw Tony (Supposedly)die in season 5 he came back in season 7. Though they do show
renee’s body on the operating table so unless the doctors return for a 2nd try(which would be cheap)
I doubt theres any chance of her returning.

      • Ajay C

The writers cannot pull another Tony. She is dead!

      • Spencer

The writers can pull another “anything”. Go back and watch earlier seasons and you will see the same plot points over and over. I just saw Jack shoot Nina in Season 1 just like he shot Renee last year.

    • Garry

I agree. I’m giddy that Chloe is now in charge–and she took over without skipping a beat! That’s my girl!

    • Anna

I cannot believe you do not think Jack and Renee have chemistry–had chemistry. I loved them together, and her death has really ruined the season for me. What would ruin it even more is if Audrey came back. Yuck. Anyway, I will really miss Renee. Its possible she will be in the movie, if they set it to take place before season seven i guess. I really hope so!

  • Ed

Dam. Everyone is dying at a record pace. Two silent clock on back 2 back episodes. Lets see what the final 7 hours have in store for us.

    • Miki

I feel bad for Anne Wersching, she wanted to be in the Movie sooo bad, she said at the George Lopez show. Dont think thats gonna happen now…

      • Angie

Maybe the movie can be set before the events of this season?

      • TMB

Maybe she’ll appear in flashbacks. I get the impression that the movie won’t be set in running time, which makes me wonder how good it can be if they break from the clock formula that has been so successful.

      • Shyne1

It’s possible Renee’s character will be in the movie. Didn’t Tony Almeida die several seasons go, but they resurrected his character last season?

    • Ajay C.

I really don’t agree with the recent turn of events, but I must say both A. Kapoor and A. Werching know how to play the game. During their talk show appearances, they intentionally mislead everyone.

      • tnsmoke

Jeffrey Nordling did the same thing in interviews last year, when the whole season had already been filmed and he knew Tony killed agent Moss. Jeffery mused about how much he’d love to be in Season 8.

  • JackBauerForever

By the way, I totally buy the theory mentioned before that President Logan is behind everything. The death of Renee makes it all even more personal (if that’s possible, with Pres. Palmer and all), and to have Logan as the antagonist would bring everything full circle perfectly. He’s a deliciously terrible bad guy and Jack taking him down will be sweet closure to this series. I gotta go mourn for Renee now…

    • Tyler

I pretty much Forgot the Curse that Everything Jack Touches Dies. I thought The Writers was gonna break the Curse since its the Final Season.. ouches

      • TMB

He still has his daughter and grandchild.

      • Better Living Thru Television

He’s like Captain Kirk that way.

      • WhoMe

Yeah but didn’t his daughter’s husband turn into a vampire? And now that he’s tasted human blood Kim could be next.

  • Alex

I agree completely about not really enjoying Renee this season, and not finding her and Jack to have great sexual chemistry.

Having said that, I’m still kind of in shock she was killed like that, and so abruptly. I kind of can’t believe it still. Out of left field.

I’d enjoy seeing Kim Raver back, but all signs indicate that’ll never happen.

    • T

Maybe it’s just the character, but I don’t think Annie can act very well. When she was dying and just made her eyes wide (the key to any death scene is to open your eyes as wide as possible and stare vacantly into the distance), I started laughing. I wasn’t really that surprised that she died. And the whole thing w/ the EMT guy injecting the terrorist so he died – how cliche! Every time anyone is taken away by an EMT, they end up being injected with something or otherwise killed off. CTU should pay a lot more attnetion to who they let into their crime scenes.

      • DeborahB

I agree, also how good is CTU at checking out employees?? Every season we have moles, seems like there have been more moles than trusted agents.

    • Cristine

Please, please, please do not bring Audrey back! I almost stopped watching the show because of her whiny, princessey attitude! Plus, and I know not all will agree with me, she has one goofy looking face. Possibly pretty from a distance, but up close? OUCH.

      • Irene

Christine, I couldn’t agree with you more! Can’t stand Audrey (don’t like her new character in Grey’s Anatomy either, but I digress). Agree she’s got a strange face. Glad Renee is gone(although, who knows? May she isn’t really dead). Felt Annie and Kiefer had no chemistry. As I’ve said before, the last woman who was equal to Jack and they had chemistry (even though she turned out to be soooo bad) was Nina Meyers. I vote for Jack just going back to the west coast and finding peace playing with his granddaughter and spending time with daughter/son-in-law…..at least until the world needs him to save it again in the ’24′ movie.

  • Ceballos

Although I liked Renee a lot more than Lynette seems to, I agree that the character had ZERO romantic chemistry with Jack. Then again, romance isn’t exactly this show’s strong suit, so I’ve never really been impressed with Jack’s “love interests” (I wasn’t a big fan of Audrey either) besides Teri in season 1. The Jack/Renee kiss was more awkward than hot.

Other than that, I thought it was a pretty solid episode, and the action has REALLY picked up. I was shocked (in a good way) that the show would off two significant characters in a row, but the show’s ending, so why not?

I LOVED how Chloe was immediately dealt a crisis, but was pleasantly surprised that the writers had her deal with it in a decisive and competent way. (Ordering that toxin test on Samir.) It’s also great to see Itzin back and playing a significant role in the season/series endgame.

The writers should feel free to leave Dana Walsh out of as many episodes as possible going forward.

    • Melinda65

Amen! When everything was going wrong in CTU, I just wanted someone to look at the smirk on her face (although as Arlo so entertainingly admitted, he never looked at her face. Ha!) I REALLY wanted Cole to backhand her across the face during the confrontation in the parking garage last week. Or pistol-whip her, or something. Stuff her in the vent with Jimmy James.

      • Ceballos

Yeah, I place the lion’s share of the blame for the abject failure of the Dana Walsh storyline on the writers…

…however, Katee Sackhoff is not blameless…at times, she’s been flat-out BAD on this show. The stuff you mentioned (particularly the blatant “I’m a bad guy and I’m doing something evil” looks on her face while CTU was crumbling were particularly awful.

Maybe after Chloe realizes there’s a body rotting nearby, she’ll overhaul CTU’s HR department. (Why not? She seems to be the only one there who has a clue.) I also have to give the writers credit for actually making me feel a little bad for Hastings (which I NEVER would’ve thought possible at the beginning of the season).

      • Ariel

Me too! I never thought I could feel empathy for Hastings, but I did. It sucks to be fired… especially in this economy (fiction or not)

      • @Ceballos

I agree. The Hastings character had redeemed himself and I liked him. Sorry to see him go. Maybe he’ll stick around and offer advice to Chloe.

    • t3hdow

I pretty much agree with everything you stated about this episode. As much as I wanted Jack and Renee to get together, something felt really off about it. Not as bad as Milo and Nadia in season 6 or Powers Boothe and his (much younger) blonde associate, but far from memorable. Excepting Tony and Michelle, 24 just doesn’t develop love stories/relationships very well.
Still, Renee’s death almost felt like a slap to the face. I know Jack’s life is tragic to the extreme, but that moment was almost ‘shoot the dog’ excruciating.

      • StrawBerryCutie

Could not agree with you more…Renee’s death came totally and completely out of left field for me. And it was excruciating to watch…
When the doctors and nurses slowly came out of the hospital room with the solemn looks and told Jack she didn’t make it, the entire time I was just waiting for someone to yell “Psych!!” and burst out laughing. It felt totally and completely unreal. Loved it though. The emotional damage that will surely ensue will be interesting to watch.

On another note, Am I the only one that actually liked Renee and Jack? I thought, out of all the women he has ever been with, she was the most like him…the one who ‘got’ him the most. Sure, their kiss was totally awkward and uncomfortable to watch…but as far as characters go, I always thought Renee was the most suited for Jack. I never did like Audrey either…

    • Allie

i agree with that too. jack and renee just didn’t seem right together. i felt bad for him though to lose her. that sucked. i think the surprise moment will be jack and chloe getting together. but i haven’t watched the show long enough to know if chloe is with someone else. is she? lol.

      • Kevin

        Yes . . . she’s married . . . with a kid and all.

      • Allie

ah okay. thanks kevin. i always thought she and jack would be good together though!

      • Ariel

Cloe and Jack together would just be gross. I love their friendship, which in my opinion is stronger than any romance they’ve had with anyone. They should continue to be BFF.

      • maryb889

Chloe should be permanent head of CTU and that’s why Jack comes back in the movie. Frankly, I can’t see any other reason for him to come back other than his loyalty to Country and Chloe…

      • JayBone

        Ewww.

      • terry

The only problem with Chloe in charge(at least for the writers) is that Chloe would back Jack in anything he wanted to do. I don’t have a problem with that, but the writers always want someone over Jack so they can immediately dismiss his suggestions. Same with Chloe. But hopefully they’ll keep her in charge.

      • Ceballos

        Excellent point, terry.

One of the hallmarks of “24″ is having a nincompoop/d!ck in charge of CTU who dismisses Jack at his/her own peril. With Chloe in charge, she’d DEFINITELY listen to what Jack had to say, and Jack is pretty much always right, so the show would have to change its title to “3.”

Of course, this would be a MUCH bigger challenge if the show weren’t ending in about a month (although there’s always the unlikely possibility that CTU New York will bring in a permanent replacement before the end of the season).

    • Nihilistic

Renee has got plenty of chemistry with me though. I’d show that freckle-faced WASP exactly how us Eyetalians earned our reputation for being the world’s greatest lovers.

  • Russell

Pretty crappy death for a character who’s been through so much. I expected her to die, but come on; an off camera sniper shoot? Jack’s reaction was great but a split screen shot would have been great.

And let’s not forget that the producers have fooled us before with the silent clock. (Tony)

    • Mary

Didn’t Tony not have a silent clock though when the episode originally aired? Cause I remember fans got really upset when he didn’t get one.

      • JackBauerForever
      • t3hdow

Tony didn’t get a silent clock. This became a huge reason why some fans speculated that he wasn’t dead for good. While I’m sure that was an unintentional side effect in the writers’ room, they were able to get away with the resurrection, thanks to a lack of a silent clock.

    • maryb889

@Russell: I disagree. I’m glad I don’t have to see the death of someone I like (and I do like Renee). Frankly, I’m one of those that screams and cheers when the bad guys go down violently. But I don’t want to see the same for those I like so I was glad her death was off camera.

    • Nihilistic

What I found unbelievable is how this very efficient sniper missed every shot he took at Jack when he was carrying Renee out of the apartment. I know 24 has always been infamous for featuring the most quixotic and unrealistic gunfights on television but that took the cake.

    • StrawBerryCutie

While I totally agree that Renee’s off screen death was a little disappointing and a split screen would have been awesome to watch…my guess would be that the actress playing Renee, Annie Wersching, could not play the part believably and so it was left out…like someone else mentioned before, her ‘I’m dying’ act was laughable so my guess would be…its the actress’ fault…not the writers.

      • K

Um, actually no. The director (Mikan Cheylov), the writers and Kiefer all decided that it would be more dramatic if the audience did not see her get shot but rather discovered it with Jack.

        http://url2it.com/crle

    • Ajay C

There never was a silent clock tribute for Tony in season 5.

  • Melinda65

I was expecting it, since I’d read a “non-spoiler” that Jack would experience tragedy; it wasn’t hard to figure out what that meant. I told my husband, “Jack will never have sex again.” I’m sure he was reminiscing at the end about all the good times he’d had with Renee–that time she cut off that guy’s thumb, and the stabbing from a few hours earlier (which seemed to have healed awfully fast–did Jack detour through Lost’s island when we weren’t paying attention?) I liked Renee, but I agree that there wasn’t much chemistry there. However, I wasn’t crazy about (ha!) her descent into an unbalanced rogue who did stuff that shocked even Jack.

Props to Chloe for being so quick to figure out that Samir was poisoned, although it was too bad that the CTU stooges, despite the infiltrations of the security detail and their own agency, allowed the EMTs to be alone with him. Unfortunately, when the writers introduce plots like that, they make CTU look like fumbling incompetents who shouldn’t be entrusted with the role of crossing guard. (Yes, I’m a fan of the show, but I’ve hit my breaking point this season when it comes to eye-rolling moments.)

    • t3hdow

Along with Renee’s death, Samir’s execution bothered me a lot more than I thought it would. Jesus, how bad does CTU look this year when they can’t even protect someone who’s incapacitated?
I half-expected Chloe to give some odd reply to Hastings’s lamentation over hiring Dana Walsh, like “pffh, that’s nothing…CTU LA got shut down because we got infiltrated and compromised so many times.”

      • MB

A Russian assassin with a thick accent poses as an EMT? Was he in position just waiting for this opportunity to be called in for this incident? Is his partner part of it? Craziness! And why was he speaking English to the Russian diplomat? Cheesy!

      • Hope

The one who killed Renee, sounded supiciously like Peter Lorre just the menace in the accent I think

  • I love Jack

I am so angry about Renee being killed off. I wanted Jack to be happy – walk off in to the sunset – have a nice life… is that too much to ask. Congrats to Chloe. Well deserved. Hastings was boring. Logan is a sleezebag. Jack Bauer is MAD. ANGRY! Kick some @$$ and more Jack…..

    • Cindy S.

I love Jack: Yes, apparently it is too much to ask that Jack be happy and have a nice life. I’m not sure I agree with folks about the lack of chemistry between him and Renee, though. I saw them both as damaged and tortured souls, kindred spirits. Something about Renee’s experiences resonated with Jack because he repeatedly tried to tell her he knew where she was at mentally because he’d been there too. I felt terrible and cried when he cried, too.

      • I love Jack

I agree with you…what the heck does Lynette know about kindred spirits. I felt that J and R understood each other. When they worked together killing terrorists, that was kinda like Mr. and Mrs. Smith action… I’m still sad and fuming… and here it is 1:00 MDT

      • K

They were wonderful together. I loved the dynamic they had and will miss it!

  • Mako

Been watching 24 since it started. And I have to say… this was one of the most devastating episodes of 24 ever. Nooooooo!!!! Renee and Jack seemed perfect for one another. First there was shock. Then there was sadness. Now there is anger. Grrrrr!!!!

    • Justin

Thank God! I thought I was the only one who thought that! Welcome to this small club!

      • kelso

i was devastated about renee. Seriously i’m not a huge fan of hers but poor jack!!

      • Linda

        hear hear!

      • Mari

I agree completely! I thought that Renee and Jack had great chemistry together! I was genuinely shocked and upset when they killed her off. I think I sat there with my mouth hanging open for about 5 minutes. I personally think Audrey had nothing on Renee…

      • MB

I thought they had chemistry. Jack and Renee finally found someone they could count on no matter what–each other.

      • David

I told my wife yesterday right before the episode started that Renee would be dead by the end of the season, which would likely precipitate the events of the movie. Was surprised that she was killed off this early though. Sad to see her go.

      • ksoze

Add me to the list. I wanted them together.

    • Amanda

I totally agree. I thought they would let Jack be happy for once…I did not see Renee’s death coming and was pretty annoyed that they went there.

    • Reena

I couldnt handle it either after Hassan’s death last week now this not only did i have like 4 cigarettes but I was crying like a baby for like 20mins after the episode ended why cant Jack be happy and get the girl everyone he loves dies or runs away from him poor Jack :-(

      • bg

        Wow, you got some issues….

      • Hope

@bg if she has issues I was the same way last night, cried my eyes out for two minutes afterwards I was so devastated.

      • TMB

Because if everything you wished for happened to Jack the show would’ve been cancelled years ago for poor ratings. Plus, a Jack in love who gets the girl isn’t a brilliant one-man assassin.

      • BauerHour

True TMB. But it’s been 8 seasons now. Give the guy a break. lol

    • ljuba59

I, too, was shocked at Renee’s death. Was it too much to ask for Jack to be happy for once after so many seasons of personal sorrow? The writers could have had Jack avenge Renee’s shooting while she recovered in the hospital. Jack may retire with his daughter and grandchild, but he needs happiness on a more personal, emotional level also. It saddens me that the writers would end the series without closure in this area of his life. (If Audrey came back and Jack forgot his feelings for Renee so quickly, he would be a cad.)

      • Jay

There’s aothner Season 2 parallel: Jack stopping a war in the Middle East. I love how terrorists come to New York to buy uranium. It’s surely easier to do that than to just ship it from Russia to FIN directly.

    • Garry

I think Jack and Renee’s chemistry was just fine, considering the unrelenting stress of their jobs, and their emotional wounds. I’m very sorry to see Renee gone. I would have liked to see a happy ending for her and Jack.
And I second the “congrats to Chloe”. Love that girl!

  • Herbert

Renee is a damn sexy agent. She gets humped and pumped by Jack and then gets shot. Stupid twist by writers and makes me not want to watch further.

    BRING ON AUDREY RAINES!!!

    • Ajay C.

Unfortunately, I see Renee’s death as confirmation that the writers are truly out of ideas. The writers had no direction for the final arc of the show for Jack, so they decided to kill Renee, and have Jack go off on a vengeance seeking spree for the final seven episodes.

Killing off two significant characters an hour apart is just mentally exhausting, not to mention unheard of.

But why the hell did they have to kill her off? Could they not have put her in a coma? That would have served the same purpose.

      • Ajay C.

If they put her in a comma, then her character would still be available for the movie. It would be a treat to see her character make an appearance in the movie after going through such an ordeal.

Chloe told Jack that Renee thought she had recognized someone from her undercover days with the Russians (which she had). Maybe she is playing dead to throw them off the trail. If she is dead, as far as they know, then their covers are safe. If she were alive, she’d be as good as dead because they wouldn’t rest until they killed her. I know I would not want to be guarded by CTU in a life or death situation.

If they put her in a comma….

Put Rene in a comma??? Why not put her in a period or an open parentheses. C-O-M-A

        LMAO Ron
Gotta love when the grammer police come to town.

For the past two weeks, you have given away a major plot point in a “clever” headline! Please stop it! I get TV Watch on my newsfeed and I can’t even scroll through my Google Reader without 24 being spoiled for me week after week. I don’t like to be an angry commenter, but is there any way you could at least get the spoiler language out of the headline? I don’t even have to click anything to be spoiled. :(

  • Jose

In all honesty, I think Bauer will die at the end of the season. It sounds cruel, to give such an ending to our beloved hero, but I think that is the only way he will be able to rest in peace. Or else, they will keep coming for him.

Closing the whole thing, the whole circle, with Logan there just seems like the best way to end it indeed.

I have thought that perhaps the Movie might be a prequel? Hence letting Bauer die on Day 8. Just my thoughts tho.

PS. Oh and one more thing…you guys shouldn’t write titles like that…seriously…it can spoil it to those that haven’t watched it big time.

    • ash

how is he gonna be in the movie then?

    • Deb

A prequel is the perfect answer. they can have anyone come back! Tony! Teri! NINA? The good ole days.

      • Ajay C.

A prequel is a horrible answer. You have to keep in mind that almost 20 “24” years have gone by since the beginning. A prequel at this point would just seem dumb.

      • maryb889

@Ajay C: Oooohhhh, prequel. I hadn’t thought of that. I was wondering how CTU, the Prez, whoever, would be able to get Jack back after all this time. Then we could have Tony and Michelle back…hell, we could even have Terri back. I’m sure Jack had some pretty bad days before the one in which Terri died!!! That would be so cool….

      • J.

I love 24 and had considered the idea of a prequel. It certainly would have been awesome to have some of the old characters back. But I don’t think it’d work, though. Reason being, this show is built on suspense. Who’s gonna die, who’s not…etc. If, say, Renee or Bill or any of the past characters that have been killed off make their way into the movie, then we’d know that they wouldn’t die. And Jack certainly couldn’t be killed. That’d be great for me as I love these characters, but it wouldn’t make for much suspense for the casual fans.

      • David

I think Jack will die at the end of the movie. If he is not in the movie, there won’t be a big draw. Honestly, who wants to go watch a 24 movie without Kiefer? Not me. And I don’t like the idea of a prequel, since we would know it turns out all right for certain characters. Takes the suspense out.

    • marie

A prequel won’t work: much as I miss the “good old days” with ack, Teri, Nina, Tony, etc., don’t forget, the show started in 2002 so all those actors are now too old to play their years-younger selves: it would strain credulity. Also, prequel means NO CHLOE, and THAT would be unbearable!

  • Lauren

Totally disagree about the chemistry. If they didn’t have great chemistry IMO, then I wouldn’t have wanted them to get together for 2 whole seasons. Every scene they were in together…they were the male/female versions of each other, and from little mannerisms to straight up dialogue, they seemed to recognize it too.
Renee’s death devestated me. Here’s hoping Jack rips the guys who are responsible limb from limb.

    • Mary

      Agree 100% RIP Renee :-(

    • pwood

totally agree…I was sad, horrified and pissed at the same time! Love this show and can’t wait for Jack to go and get em! Kiefer can sure mine those dramatic moments…I love this show and will mourn it’s passing.

      • Hope

I know. Kiefer really nailed heartbreak and devastation, so well it was like being punched in the gut for me. Poor guy’s suffered so much already, it’s not fair. :(

      • Linda

I say an Emmy for Kiefer!!!

      • ksoze

        Copy that!

    • JMR

I did not see Renee’s death coming. That one got me. I love this show and Bauer rocks. When he bent down and kissed Renee’s forhead, I had tears running down my face. :( A very poignant moment for 24.

      • Linda

I was so touched by that scene… Kiefer rocks!

      • Bauerette

        RIP, Agent Freckles. :,0(

    • carolina

I thought they had great chemistry. The sex scene was pretty hot in my opinion – especially when Jack picks her up and she wraps her legs around him…I was upset at her death but not as upset as I was when Bill Buchanan died….now that was material to cry over.

  • Sharon

Nooooooooo…. not Renee! She was a tough lady- the first one who actually could measure up to Jack. Poor Jack!!

    • David

Didn’t like to see her go so soon. Figured that by the end of the season, she would be gone though, as I really do not see a happy ending for Jack. But it could have been worse. They could have killed off Chloe.

  • Mary

For first time in a long time, I literally screamed at my TV when Renee got shot and then died. I knew something bad would happen when that sniper came into the picture. I hope Renee is faking her death to deceive the Russians (yet, we heard the silent clock so I don’t think that theory will work). If not, I hope Jack kicks the **** out of that shooter.
