'Phillip Morris' gets a new release date, Emile Hirsch battles aliens (Excess Hollywood)

  • Audiences will have to fall for I Love You Phillip Morris this July: The Jim Carrey-Ewan McGregor film has been delayed from April 30 to July 30. [Variety]
  • Twilight studio Summit acquires film rights to Homelanders, a young adult novel by Andrew Klavan that follows a high school student “who wakes up to find himself tied to a chair, not knowing where he is or how a whole year has passed.” Okay, so when do the vampires come into the picture? [THR]
  • Into the Wild‘s Emile Hirsch will star in another movie about survival: The actor has signed onto The Darkest Hour, which centers on a group of kids who cope with an alien invasion in Russia. Why is it whenever I think of Russia and “a group of kids,” I think of Wolverines? [Variety]
  • Delroy Lindo has been tapped for the leading role in the Fox pilot Ride-Along, which follows a “rogue cowboy cop…who vow[s] to clean up the streets.” Jennifer Beals co-stars as Chicago’s first female police officer/breakdancer. [THR]
  • Actor Eddie Carroll has passed away at 76 years old of a brain tumor. Carroll helped Pinocchio become a real boy as the voice of Jiminy Cricket. [Los Angeles Times]
  • Paramount has partnered with hard drive manufacturer Seagate to distribute portable 500 GB drives pre-loaded with 21 movies. Star Trek will be available for free and consumers can unlock the other 20 by paying between $9.99 and $14.99.  The devices will only work on Windows-compatible computers. [Reuters]
