'Masters of the Universe' movie hires screenwriters

By the power of Grayskull, a new screenwriting team has been hired for the Masters of the Universe movie! Mike Finch and Alex Litvak are the scribes in question, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which says their addition “signals the project is being rebuilt from the ground up.” Apparently, Mattel took Masters of the Universe away from its last studio home due to creative differences.

I was a big He-Man guy once — when I was, like, three years old. Had the action figures and everything. Now, though, when I hear “By the power of Grayskull,” my first thought is Hot Fuzz. A feature-length motion picture about those toys I used to play with in the ’80s? Frankly, we’ve been dubious since this was first announced a year ago. Then again, I guess I’m not the target demo for this movie anymore. How about you?

Are we not familiar with the Dolph Lundgren classic, co-starring Courtney Cox? I loved that as a child.

  • GeeMoney

It’s apparent now that Hollywood has officially run out of new ideas.

  • Jay

The Dolph Lundgren flick was deadful :(
I, too, was huge fan as a kid. I had all the action figures, Castle Greyskull, Snake Mountain, I even had the Horde Slime Pit (bonus points to any of you who remember that thing)
I’ll reserve my judgment until I see a trailer, but I just dont see how this cartoon franchise can survive on the big screen.

    I guess time will tell

      *DREADFUL*

Not only did I have all the toys and accessories, I just wrote a play about two kids who come of age while playing with their He-Man set. I say, bring it on!

Yeah it was awful. Ivan Drago running around shooting guys with the lazer tag gun. He Man with a Gun, Really?

    • Eyeball

Horde slime pit was a She-Ra toy. You lose, buddy.

      • Jay

The slime pit was clearly marketed as a “Master of the Universe” toy.

see the commercial from the 80′s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHncoxvxRO8

If this was ever in the She-Ra cartoon, I dont know… perhaps it was in both?

No it wasn’t. Hordak was supposed to be Skeletor’s mentor. The Horde was a MOTU group. The Slime Pit was incredible though. Remember how everybody’s parents flipped out over that?

  • Kaz

Oooooh, I wonder if there is any chance of She-Ra appearing. I must admit I loved watching those cartoons and playing with the action figures as a kid. :)

The one thing I found out when I went back and watched was that when HE MAN was Adam he was quite the flamer.

Can I please have one piece of my childhood left alone?! Not bent over and violated by the corporate hollywood machine! SMH

Dolph Lundgren is the most underrated actor of all time, and he can smell crime, sooooo I’m sure his version can’t be beat.

It was not so dreadful, it was Dolphs acting. Honestly, “I Come in Peace” was the only decent film he made. Eyeball, you mean Hordaks Slime Pit and, yeah that was a She-Ra toy. Anyway, I say that if a Thundercats movie and a Robotech movie are being made, then why not. I just hope that is not as over the top as the Transformers films were.

I was a kid when I saw the first movie, and I thought it was bad then. And I liked the cartoon series.

  • Sina

Please don’t let them ruin Thundercats. Pantro and Cheetra were my favorites. I hated Snarf.
Anyhoo, I’m glad they are doing another Master of the Universe. Skeletor’s hand popped out at the end of the movie showing he was still alive. Also they have to make up for the fact they had to play that stupid piano to get back home. I remember it came out the same time Super V did. Both sucked but I still like Masters of the Universe as a kid.

Of course it could be a great movie-if it was done with a little respect such as the new Batman films. All you have to do is go back to the original toy line-up with only 8 or 9 characters- back before it got really cheesy with the cartoon. And my 2 cents– Triple H as He-Man’s dad in a flashback to he-man’s youth— and Jessica Biel is the only woman alive to play Teela.

Do you have any last wishes?

  • Ray

I would love to see a new He-Man movie. Anythings better then the one with Dolph Lundgren not that he’s a bad actor. Just so that they stay close as possiable to the original story, & stay out of our dimension. I would watch it.

  • Randall

I say about time they do this movie , Ive waited so long for it . After G.I Joe and Transformers 1 and 2 , it about time but all they need now is a new real life TMNT . But I say lets do it lets return to Grayskull but not with Doulph after the Exspendables he proofed he still has it but not to do this he had a nice run but lets get a freash fish . . .
