TBS has announced that Conan O’Brien will host an 11 p.m. talk show on the network, expected to debut in November 2010. George Lopez, whose Lopez Tonight will move back to midnight, was instrumental in the deal — TBS began talks in earnest with O’Brien just last week, after Lopez personally called Conan and asked him to consider joining the late-night lineup. “In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly,” O’Brien said in a statement. (Admit it: You thought he was just joking on Twitter today when he wrote, “The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I’ll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show.” I did.)
While you start to ponder how far he can push the envelope at 11 p.m. on TBS and how funny it is that he will once again cause NBC affiliates to lose viewers for their local news telecasts, we also need to discuss (gulp) how you’ll deal with the Daily Show/Colbert Report/Letterman/Conan traffic jam. (Theoretically, you could DVR Conan and The Daily Show at 11 p.m., Letterman at 11:30 p.m., and The Colbert Report repeat at 2 a.m. — but that’s a late night.) And as for the question in our headline, where does the new Team Coco/Lopez stand on your list of favorite late-night tandem? Vote for your favorite duo in the poll below, then rank them in the comments.

I think people may see this as a step down for Conan. But I’m pretty happy for him. He gets to work, his employees get to work, and maybe he’ll have slightly more freedom (from ratings, etc.) on cable. I will be watching.
George Lopez is junk. Poor Conan. Maybe they’ll drop Lopez and give Conan someone else to pair up.
Big surprise there you hate the mexican not only that, but you feel sorry for conan for havinq to work with george. Mmmmm can u say RACIST.
Adan, really? So if someone’s Hispanic and they don’t care for one individual who is White, they are racist? If we don’t care about a comedian’s style, we are racist because they JUST HAPPEN to be Hispanic? Get over yourself!
What the heck, EW? Why no Chelsea/Chuy?!
I don’t like any of the tandems I just realized. I don’t watch TDS or TCR (I understand this might be a mistake, but I just don’t), and I only like one portion of all the tandems: Fallon, Ferguson, Conan
So how long before Lopez says I didn’t sign on to do a talk show after midnight?
no…lopez said he was absolutely fine with conan pushing him back an hour
Meant to add, I have no use for George Lopez though. His brand of comedy is mostly just yelling.
Bye, bye, Daily Show.
I now <3 George Lopez.
I don’t like any of the tandems you have listed. At least one of each grouping is sub-par. The best one ever was Carson/Young Letterman. Long gone, but not forgotten. GO COCO! Adios Daily Show.
I’ll watch not by network duo but by funny host. My picks are Kimmel, Stewart, Conan, in that order. Sometimes Ferguson.
He was the host of The Tonight Show and now he will have a show on TBS…really moving up in the world.
I’ll try to watch… but right now I have a hard time just keeping up with all the Daily Shows, Colbert Reports, and Craig Fergusons on my DVR.
I watch George Lopez for the first 30 and then David Letterman for his first 30 minutes. Conan and David have the same brand of humor.
woo hoo!!!
George Lopez has class! Something Leno clearly lacks. I will still tune into Fallon only because of the Roots. But See ya Later Leno, it was fun…. well not really. Welcome BACK CONAN!!! Now a REAL LA-resident can show Conan what LA is about, not a rich punk like Leno.
Conan returns, we rejoice, i dvr daily/colbert in the afternoon, watch jimmy fallon, craig, dave at nite and a big gracias to george lopez, he is my new hero
Conan O’Brien is boring. HE is the one who should be on at midnight.
Don’t make negative comments about CoCo…otherwise his juvenile, spelling-deficient fans will come and accuse you of being Jay Leno.
How’s the weather on that island?
Ever since the Conan/Jimmy team ended my favorite has gone back to Stewart/Colbert. I will definitely watch Conan as many nights as I can (as I did when he was on TDS), but I’ve actually never watched either of George Lopez’s shows, so I have no idea if I like his comedy.
