I am a huge, huge fan of Family Feud. In large part because I love how often “a gun” actually ranks on the list of survey responses. (On one episode, “a gun” was actually the top answer to the question: “Name something you keep on your bed stand.” Shudder.) As a fan of contestants’ scary/bizarre/fascinating answers, I’m mighty peeved that I missed an awesome episode that featured a category about Ellen DeGeneres: “Name something that everybody knows about Ellen DeGeneres.” Not surprisingly, the fact that DeGeneres is a lesbian was the No. 1 answer. But one member of this family highlighted one mighty interesting “fact.” (See the hilarity that ensued in a clip from DeGeneres’ talk show after the jump.)
Huh. I had no idea that DeGeneres “doesn’t like our country very well.” Guess you learn something new every day.
I really think that older man just got Ellen confused … with … actually, never mind, cuz I got nothing.

My family was on Famly Feud, but we lost on the most inane category: “Name a tattoo a baby might get”.
Number one answer: “Mom.”

My first thought would be that this guy is just a crazy conservative who assumes that because Ellen is a liberal lesbian she must hate america. But the rest of the family seemed quite supportive of her. “She takes care of her mother,” said the wife and the husband applauds. Yeah, I’m kinda lost on this one.
Let’s see, Dad says she doesn’t like America, but Mom says she loves her mom. I guess whether she loves or hates apple pie breaks the tie? Oh man. Anyway, I don’t think anyone ever thought Family Feud contestants were Mensa material… That Dad’s an idiot.

Bizaaaaarre. Maybe he meant it as in, she doesn’t like our country’s general policy of not allowing gay marriage? Or she doesn’t like how so many people in this country are intolerant of gay relationships and people? Um, or maybe she doesn’t like our country since only 5 people in that audience went with “she’s funny”? (Ellen is effing hilarious!) Or…yeah I really don’t know. The family did seem to be supportive of her in all their other answers, so my best guess is the guy misspoke or didn’t fully express the entire thought he was having? Maybe?
The family was rootin on dad because the Feud producers tell you to get enthusiastic about every answer, even if it’s awful. The idea is not to necessarily be right, it’s to act excited and energetic.
Yeah the daughters were a little slow to join in. I think it was more of an obligatory clap-along.
Strangely, my guess is that Dad confused her with Rosie O’Donnell: both lesbians with talk shows. Sad but possible.
BTW, that doesn’t make Dad any less dumb … it’s just a possible explanation.

Does anyone have Dish Network? They actually updated the listing for EARTH channel to say “Ellen Degeneres Loves Planet Earth” and the info reads “Not only does she love America, and other countries, but she loves the ENTIRE PLANET”
