Oprah lands Rielle Hunter: Must-see TV?

Oprah-Rielle-HunterImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR Photos; Jim R. Bounds/AP ImagesTo watch or not to watch: That is the question. According to the Associated Press, Oprah Winfrey will interview Rielle Hunter on an upcoming episode of her daytime talk show. The mother of John Edwards 2-year-old daughter previously spoke with GQ (“Hello, America, My Name is Rielle Hunter”), but this would represent her first televised appearance since the former presidential candidate publicly admitted their affair and accepted paternal responsibility for their child. In the talk-show business, this is what’s known as a “huge get.” But I’m not sure I can stomach an hour more of this story. True, Edwards, as the reckless married man who lied repeatedly, deserves the lion’s share of scorn, but Hunter’s own comments about Edwards’ estranged wife, Elizabeth, have been as inappropriate as her sexy GQ photo spread. Now that Edwards’ political career is kaput, do we really need to grant Hunter a showcase for her version of the tawdry details?

Fair or not, is there anything Hunter can tell Oprah that will improve her public image? Do you even want to hear what she has to say? Will you watch?

I’ll pass. Unless Oprah gives her the James Frey (after the truth came out) treatment, this is a waste of an hour.

Im sorry, but I have ZERO sympathy for all these ‘chicks on the side’ – you’re just as guilty as the man. Like all of these Tiger girls, b!+ch please.

    • sam

      Well said.

      • Bonnie

If you’ve seen Oprah, when she has an opinion you know it in her stern voice even if she doesn’t come right out with the insults. I’m sure Oprah is going to lay it on thick, should be entertaining.

    • Bimbo Erruption

Agreed. I’m so sick of the chick on the side getting so much attention. Between Edwards, Tiger’s and now Jesse James’ bimbos my head is about to explode. They think they deserve apologies… wrong. Here’s the deal, you sleep with a married man, you get what you deserve. More than likely he’s not leaving his wife for you. You’re just a trick. That’s it. Get over yourself. So much for going on the high road Oprah.

      • linn

I ditto your sentiments. Enough with giving these tawdry women media coverage for their immorality. Messing with the “marrieds” should not be glorified. Where’s the sisterhood?

    • charlotte

I couldn’t have said it better myself. These women make me sick to my stomach. These women do our sex no favor.

      • sheila cunningham, NC

What about them dump butt men do they make you sick to your stomach

    • The Lady

Agree! The “girls on the side” give the good women a bad name.

    • Carrie

I think they should put all 3 of them together John, Elizabeth, and Rielle and have Jerry Springer run the interview. Thats where this one belongs.

  • AuntieMM

This is a new low for Oprah. Who cares what this woman has to say? I guess sleeping with a married man and telling about it is now the fast track to money and celebrity…..sad.

  • Joel

This disgusting woman’s 2 seconds of fame is over with. We do NOT need to hear any more from her or John Edwards!

  • TheObserver

To your final questions the answers are no, no and no. The woman knew the man had a terminally ill wife and still slept with him. I don’t care how much he came on to her I don’t care if Elizabeth Edwards was a terrible wife, I don’t care how much magical fairy dust was flowing betweeen her and John edwards she is a concubine, a trollop and unfortunately that poor innocent child that was produced from their affair will be seen in history as the famous bastard child of John Edwards. She slept with a married man. There was a time when that was something to be ashamed of now its grounds for making Gloria Allred your lawyer and getting a publicist so you can shop around for a reality T.V show or a book deal. disgusting

    • queue55

      Very well said!!

    • Tammy Hancock

This is the best response that I have seen in a long, long time! Thank you for your insight.

    • Suzie

      Brilliantly said.

    • terry

Yeah, i remember when the most horrible thing was Suzanne Sommers had posed for (unpublished) pictures in Playboy and caused a big stir cause she was on Thre’s Company. She apologized and said she had posed early in her career and just was trying to make some money as a single mother. Seems quaint now. Nowadays young stars parade aound without their panties and give the paps crotch shots. And those without talent just sleep with those that do and release sex tapes and get rewarded. Oprah has held herself to a higher standard than most of the competition but even she at times has to stoop to the tabloid level for ratings. Wish she would leave this loser to The Insider. Or how about this, we all ignore them altogether.

    • wakeforce

I put Gloria Allred in the same bed with Riele, Josey Jaymes, and Michelle “Tranny” McGee.

    • linn

My thoughts exactly. It would be nice if Oprah could use her “celebrity” for a good cause instead. There is nothing “good” about this story or this woman. There is no justification in the world for aiding and abetting a cheating spouse!! simple. Sorry “R” witch, you are wrong from all perspectives!

    • debby

My thoughts exactly. Shame on Oprah for giving her airtime. It only encourages others to do likewise.

    • kathy fitzgerald

I have no doubt that Oprah is going to “try” and make a point. Maybe she sees this as a way to warn younger women not to have affairs. Oprah has never been married and maybe has no clue what it is like to love, support and carry the children of a man you fell in love with thirty five years ago. Also, I don’t care if Elizabeth wasn’t the perfect wife…who are any of us to judge.

    • Jan

TOTALLY agree with absolutely everything you said! It’s looking like the Oprah show is becoming another Jerry Springer/Maury Povich show. DISGUSTING! I definitely won’t waste my time and energies on this garbage.

  • chelle

I’ll pass. And the whole “I didn’t realize how they were going to portray me” event makes me sincerely hope Oprah beats her down. As if…

  • Sista

Tick Tock – Oprah, your time is up

  • Penny

Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I’m going to watch it.

  • a

No! Shaking my head. Why Oprah? Why?

  • Jill

As if Ms. Hunter is in such high demand that it’s a major coup that Oprah got her?

  • pop

i hope oprah rips her a new one

  • cndn610

I’ll pass. No interest in this woman whatsoever. She belongs on “The Insider.” This is beneath Oprah. I used to be an Edwards supporter but I have no respect for him now. I’m tired of the beating down of Elizabeth. That’s who Oprah should be interviewing not “the other woman.”

    • s marie

She already interviewed Elizabeth Edwards and man was that uncomfortable!

To answer this blog, I have absolutely no interest in hearing anymore of this sordid tale. Unfortunately, I hear a lot about it since I’m living in North Carolina.

Today’s Oprah ep should be good: the cast of Glee!

      • Shamus N.

I’m looking forward to today’s episode too!

        Hunter, not so much.

  • Jenn

I am truly disappointed to hear that Oprah will be interviewing Ms. Hunter. Like Elizabeth Edwards, my mother also has terminal cancer and the last thing anyone needs in this stage needs is this kind of stress. My heart not only breaks for Elizabeth, but for her children as well. They did nothing to deserve this. I can’t imagine the hurt and anger I would feel if I had to watch my mother, fighting for her life, go through her final months/years dealing with this kind of crap. It’s time to stop giving publicity to women who open their legs to married men. Yes, John Edwards is a pig for what he did, but Rielle Hunter is right next to him at that trough.

    • Bonnie

Actually I think it was inevitable that this interview would take place and I think Elizabeth Edwards is going to appreciate Oprah doing it because I’m pretty sure that Oprah is going to put this woman through the wringer.

I agree that this is a low for Oprah. The media needs to stop covering these mistresses. It’s disgusting. I by no means think John Edwards, or Tiger Woods, Jesse James, etc. are innocent, but I’m tired of these women becoming famous and/or rich because they slept with a married man! It’s one thing for Access Hollywood or Entertainment Tonight be covering this crap, but Oprah has really lowered her standards.

    • Bimbo Erruption

I wonder if Gloria Alred is representing Hunter. She seems to be the go to lawyer for high profile mistresses.

  • Caramia

I can’t stand Rielle Hunter, but you know, I’ll probably watch it when it comes on. Then again, I just ate a breakfast sandwich from Burger King at my desk. Not too proud of that either.

    • Anne

I had to laugh-we do a lot of things that won’t make us model citizens (I have a fondness for watching Real Housewives-or anything on Bravo-with a mixed drink in the hand). Everyone involved is trash, but I will probably tape and watch (with a drink). I will shake my head and mutter negative comments but watch nonetheless.
