'Love Actually' actor Andrew Lincoln cast in AMC zombie thriller. To me, he is perfect.

Andrew-LincolnImage Credit: Peter MountainEvery year, a few days before Christmas, I plop myself down on my couch to watch Love Actually. And every year, I always wonder why Andrew Lincoln, the actor who plays Keira Knightley’s love interest in the movie, has yet to really hit it big here in the States. I mean, audiences for the beloved holiday romantic comedy are actually cheering for him to stalk Keira Knightley’s married character by constantly filming her — something that would be somewhat creepy in real life, but in rom-com world, is oh-my-gosh-so-romantic-squee!

So I’m thrilled to see that (according to The Hollywood Reporter) he’s nabbed the starring role, small-town cop Rick Grimes, in AMC’s zombie thriller, The Walking Dead, which is based on a comic book series. I’ll admit that I’ve never seen Lincoln in anything other than Love Actually, but to me, he is perfect for this role, . And I will support this casting choice until I look like, well, a dead ol’ zombie. I say this after seeing comments from Robert Kirkman — the author of the comic books — about Lincoln: “Andrew Lincoln, wow — what an amazing find this guy is…. Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being, and yet here he is.”

Who else is happy for Lincoln?

OMG, if you like him you should try and get your hands on the BBC series ‘THIS LIFE’ about a bunch of friends living in a house together in London, it was a great show, it only lasted 2 seasons i think, but there is a 10 years later mini series, Jack Davenport (FlashForward) was in it too

That was a good one, but I liked him even better in “Teachers”. :-)

It’s gonna be a pretty hard part to pull off. We’ll see… I kind of hope the show strays pretty heavily from the comics, which are good, but… I feel like all the comics to date if directly adapted would make about 15 episodes. So, do they just adapt those and start writing their own stories or do they stretch out the books to make them last longer? Either way I think there’s a lot of potential there. I just hope they make Rick less of a jerk.

wait…wait…wait….did you say AMC (like where Mad Men and Breaking Bad are?) and zombie tv show?!?!?! AND Andrew Lincoln!?!?

  • Brian

Is this AMC thriller going to be a movie or a tv series? AMC makes, TV, right? But somehow this sounds unlikely to be the premise of a series. Can you clarify, Kate?

    • Mina

this is going to be a tv series. AMC makes TV (Breaking Bad, Mad Men). I think this is going to be like True Blood, where the comics are a starting point for the series, but the show will develop beyond the books. It sounds pretty awesome!

the comic has been going for about 6 years or so, its ongoing and not a single story, its about survival after an attack with tons of plot and characters and twists and deaths. Thats why it can be more than just a movie.

I love crazy film-obsessed, sign-carrying stalker guy. But I skipped on “Love, Actually” last Christmas. I couldn’t watch the Liam Neeson funeral scene.

    • orville

I didn’t skip it, unfortunately. I nearly blubbered myself into a giant puddle.

he was great on BBC’S “teachers” (which they brought to the states on NBC with Justin Bartha as the lead)

I’m pretty sure he was in “Gangster No. 1″ with Paul Bettany. As much as I loved him in “Love Actually” I can’t say that he was as adorable in “Gangster.” Still, I’ll watch a zombie movie with him in it :)

Am I the only one who thinks he’d be ideally cast as Mark Feuerstein’s little brother? Big brother? I can’t tell how old white people are.

  • Kaelyn

Yes, I’ve never understood why I’ve never seen him in anything else, cuz he was super adorable in that movie. Can we also get more work for the guy who plays Colin.

  • paige

I am just excited this is being developed as a tv show… AMC is clearly the best network right now

  • love a.

isn’t keira knightley’s love interest in the movie the one she marries? i think saying keira’s character is his love interest would be more accurate. but yes, he was great in love actually. am excited to see him do more!

He’ll always be Egg from This Life to me!

If zombies are going to start replacing vampires on tv then someone needs to make World War Z into a series.

    • squishy

World War Z is in development for a movie, tentatively set for 2012.

  • anon

I always considered him a good candidate to play Bilbo Baggins. He’s a little better looking than Ian Holm, but he has the same sweetness of face.

  • Krystina

Loved him in Teachers! I’ll be waiting for this…
