Tiger Woods' Masters press conference: 'It's not about the championships, it's about how you live your life.'

tiger-woodsTiger Woods faced the golf press after a practice round at Augusta National Golf Course, telling a packed media center that he was touched by the warm embrace of the Masters’ crowd and rival players, that he’s never taken performance-enhancement drugs, and that his wife, Elin, would not accompany him at this week’s Masters tournament.

Woods seemed genuinely happy to be there, addressing his friends in the press by their nicknames and saying that facing them didn’t make him nervous. But he refused to answer what his inpatient treatment had actually been for, claiming “That’s personal. Thank you.”┬áHe tersely answered that his wife would not attend the tournament, and he only slightly addressed the Thanksgiving car accident that initiated his downfall. He admitted he had received five stitches in his lip from the accident, but wouldn’t speculate whether the crash was caused by his prescription drug use.

Except for the one question about his wife’s plans for the tournament, the reporters avoided any mention of the golfer’s marriage, the events that may have led up to the car accident, or his mistresses. Woods did discuss how his treatment had kept him from his family, including causing him to miss his son’s first birthday. “That hurt,” he said. “That hurt a lot.”

Looking forward, Woods seemed confident he could regain his place at the top of the game, but he insisted his trials had shifted his priorities: “It’s not about the championships. It’s about how you live your life.”

He’ll likely be treated with kid gloves, because the minute someone asks something uncomfortable, he’ll start pouting, throw a fit and leave.

No he’ll just decline to answer the question by saying something annoying like “that’s personal.” Um, Tiger, you’re the one who keeps holding press conferences so at least man up and answer the questions without the B.S., otherwise don’t waste our time.

dude, you’re half black, and no black women came forward. how does that make you feel? does jungle fever run in your family? …. lol

Tigers mistress–the p@@@ star–Joselyn James is going to be watching his press conference live according the the CNN HLN Show “Issues.” They are going to monitor his words and her reaction. That girl is getting more and more bizarre so it should be interesting. Jane Velez-Mitchell (the host of “Issues”) didn’t hold back on her last time she was on the show–saying “What do you want? What do you WANT?!”

What are you talking about?? She was on howard stern this morning and she’s nothing short of completely normal. She’s a nice girl, she’s only monitoring the press conference in case Tiger says anymore BS.

Do you think if he decides to remain faithful from this point forward, will the lack of numerous orgasms affect his game?

  • B

how many times does he have to have a press conference?

    • crunchy

Well this is #2 so I guess 2.

In addition to that annoying yellow “get 4 free issues” banner, now we get a footer with special deals. Anyone know a way of stopping these pop-ups?

If you use Mozilla, download Adblock Plus. It gets almost everything. I don’t even see ads on facebook anymore.

      • LOL

        Good tip.

I can forgive the affairs but not the goatee.

I realize this is an important story for a lot of people, but ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and thousands of other sports related media outlets have this covered already. Entertainment Weekly… Entertainment news. The Masters has never been entertainment news. Stick to your guns!

Woods hits little balls into holes in the ground. it’s imperative we know everything about his life.

    • Tiger

      You said balls.

      • Herbie

        He also said “wood”.

  • jules

GOSH, people, this is his FIRST press conference.

    • Jennifer

True – his previous television appearance to not really talk about the elephant in the room was a scripted statement with no questions allowed.

  • Kate

I think Tiger has answered enough questions. It is now time to get back to playing golf. The rest is private and no ones business. Looks like the Golf world is happy to see him back. Tiger probably won’t win the Masters, but I expect he will do well.

Welcome back Tiger. Can’t wait to see how you do.

I think he lost perspective about who was hurt and embarassed the most here “Elin”!!! This whole thing would have been believable had he made a public apology to her and proclaimed his love for her but it seems that he’s just dodging some child support to me.. Just saying. He never admitter that he had affairs and he never thanked his wife for allowing him an opportunity to rectify his indiscretions. Elin, Thank you for caring enough about your kids to put up with Tiger’s ego. They will benefit from having their father present on a daily basis! There Tiger, I said it for you.

    • April

I doon’t think Elin wants a public apology from Tiger. She has always wanted to remain sort of private and I for one don’t blame her. My guess, and it’s just a guess, is that she asked Tiger not to talk about her. If you noticed, he didn’t talk about her at all. The one question he was asked that was directed towards his wife, that’s the one he waved off. For the most part, he answered all others.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to hold a press conference. For no reason but to make myself not look like a complete tool. Thank you.

    • LOL

      It didn’t work, though.

      • Eldrick

        I thought it went great.
