Image Credit: Patrick Harbron/NBCIn NBC renewal-palooza news, the network announced today that it is picking up The Marriage Ref and Who Do You Think You Are? for additional seasons, as well as Minute to Win It.
That’s certainly good news for bored celebrities and Oreos hoping to end up on Guy Fieri’s floor. But it appears the programs are working well for the network: The Marriage Ref has “over-delivered in key upscale demos” according to NBC (meaning rich people love it. Or Jerry Seinfeld has a lot of televisions), and Who Do You Think You Are? has helped NBC beat an original episode of Ghost Whisperer on CBS for the first time since 2006.
So which celebs do you want to see solve household tiffs next? And what household object have you been having fun with lately?

and yet no Chuck???? WTH
I second that!
Chuck was the first thing that came to my mind too!
Chuck was canceled this morning. Check twitter.
I’m not a fan of Chuck, espeically season 2, however it has been getting better. These renewals just go to show how bad america’s humor is, all of those shows are beyond watchable… Just like the superbowl ads, 90% American’s thought they were hilarious, but in reality not a single one was?! Glad I’m Canadian
at least i wasn’t the only one with that reaction. they renew the crappiest shows on tv and no Chuck…. this is why nbc is losing viewers!
Best season of Chuck so far!!!!
Yea! I do not get it either…
Chuck is the only NBC show I’m wishing to get renewed!
Chuck is reportedly going to be picked up for 13 episodes and will be moved to Fridays for midseason 2011..
oh no. Friday night is a death slot.
ditto
Marriage Ref is pure crap.
This is great news! I think next season should have themes, and one of the themes would be a “Talk Show Host” theme with David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Conan O Brien on the panel.
I think it’s ridiculous that they’ll renew these shows and Friday Night Lights had to fight for every season it got.
Last year, FNL got picked up for two more seasons at once. Connie Britton spilled the beans to Ausiello last year on this site. It will be back next year for its final season.
IJWTS wow! Why can\’t I think of tinghs like that?
Minute-to-win-it…the dumbest show that I can’t turn off. My daughter comes in and says “what are you watching?” Me-”Some dumb show” Cue to 30 minutes later and we are thinking about games we could do at home for a 14th Minute-to-win-it birthday party for her.
Fun!
Dude that would be the best birthday party EVER! You would officially be the cool mom!
Marriage Ref has been dropping to near Leno-level ratings numbers and is a total throw-away show, so it makes complete sense that NBC would renew it simply because it is cheap to produce, just like they wanted with Leno anyway.
Plus they get in good with Seinfield if he ever wants to return to a sitcom.
It’s funnier than Leno when they have a panel that clicks. It’s only on once a week so you don’t get completely sick of it. Much rather see this than a Leno-style show every night. I can’t think of a single performer/group/act I want to watch 5 nights out of 7. What were Leno and NBC thinking?
Everyone said The Marriage Ref would be canceled after 2 or 3 episodes, and now its getting renewed. I LOVE IT!!
Darrin- The Marriage Ref is averaging over 7 million viewers an episode. The Jay Leno show averaged under 5 million. Marriage Ref is doing much better.
total viewers don’t matter. 18-49 demos do.
Based on the story, in this case NBC cares more about rich viewers than young viewers.
The key word there is “averaging”. That would obviously count the 14 million plus that the pilot got following the closing ceremony of the Olympics. Since moving to Thursday, the numbers have been going down, and from what I read on this site was down to 5.6 million or so recently, around what Leno got on some nights.
Marriage Ref had Larry David and Ricky Gervais on the same ep. If they can get Christopher Walken or Bruce Campbell on there, I’ll watch, otherwise, it’s already peaked.
Yes, that episode was hilarious! And it had Madonna too!
Marriage Ref rules!
Minute to Win it is just a lame version of Beat the Clock. Celebrity? Faux celebrity Kate Gosslin just to see her put her foot in her mouth.
*sigh* NBC, could you be any more irrelevant?
Minute to win it gets the same viewers and is already renewed?? What about Chuck? More people need to watch it. They need to move it from Mondays..
The Marriage Ref just shut up all the people that said it would get canceled. Im happy for Jerry. Its a great show!
Maybe they were saying it SHOULD get canceled.
I agree with those who don’t understand Chuck not being renewed while these lame shows are.
No…they were saying it WILL be canceled, and they were WRONG.
I didn’t think so at first but Kirstie Alley, Jimmy Fallon and Sheryl Crow were pretty funny together. I think the more silly the arguments are the better the humor is. I’m just surprised Parenthood hasn’t been renewed yet.
I agree with James. Kirstie Alley,Jimmy Fallen, and Sheryl Crow were great.Cant wait for next weeks episode!
