Image Credit: Patrick Harbron/ABCYou can tell that the writers are winding things down on ABC’s Ugly Betty simply by looking at how many great quips there have been in recent episodes. Frankly, there aren’t as many of them! (There were only 11 last week.)
Why? It seems that the writers are more concerned (and rightfully so!) with doing justice to all the storylines swirling instead of dreaming up silly, fun little lines. Remember, after last night’s episode, there are only two hours of the show left. (Boo hoo!) Anyway, I’m not complaining about the lack of sound bites. That meant that last night’s episode was packed full of juicy-good story.
Betty, Hilda, and Amanda met Christina (she’s back and she’s a fashion designer!) in London for Hilda’s bachelorette party; Betty ran into (an engaged) Gio again, who made her realize that, as successful as she is, she hasn’t really been pursing her true dreams; Betty interviewed for, was offered, and then declined to take a job as a fashion columnist; Amanda decided to quit Mode and pursue styling full-time; Marc “broke up” with his boyfriend Troy, ate two pieces of pizza, and cried about it; Justin continued to snub Bobby, who saw his future step-son kissing Austin and promised not to tell anyone about it; Daniel tried to make nice with his new half-brother Tyler but just ended up getting in a fight with him; and Willy set in motion her plan to use Tyler to help her take over Meade by swooping in as his AA sponsor. Most shockingly — or not shockingly at all? — Betty drunk-dialed Henry, who we saw get the message at the close of the episode! Whew! See what I mean about lots of story?

“Or better yet, naked horse back riding! You’re welcome!” — Amanda, after Betty suggests that she could take Hilda horseback riding for her bachelorette party
“I like Trey better. Or Trevor. We’ll talk about it. I’m sure he’ll want to weigh in.” — Marc, trying to decide what name he’ll call his “boyfriend” Troy
“Somewhere? Oh, what about here? And here? And here? And here?” — Amanda, after Betty says she thinks she has a few extra pounds somewhere to tip the doorman
“Christina, your dreams came true. That’s not what I saw for you!” — Amanda, after finding out that Christina is a rather successful fashion designer in London
“We decided that every time you say ‘work’, we drink!” — Amanda, to Betty, on the drinking game they’re playing for Hilda’s bachelorette party
“Everyone said, ‘When you go to London, don’t miss Betty’s boobs.’ I’m just glad there wasn’t a line.” — Gio, after Betty flashes him in a bar when she thought she was flashing a stranger
“Let’s just get Cheech and Chong back out!” — Amanda, referring to Betty’s boobs
“Slip-ups are inevitable. And it’s okay. I certainly know how tempting a perfectly mixed cocktail can be. I can almost taste it right now. It’s like a warm hug going down my throat.” — Willy, hilariously trying to “convince” Tyler not to take a drink while downing a martini herself
“You’re like a big, fancy designer in London, and I’m a big-shot stylist in New York. Well not in the sense that I have any clients, but I do get to combine all my favorite interests: criticizing people, shopping, and promoting world thinness.” — Amanda, to Christina

LAME EPISODE
I sorta hope that Betty ends up alone (Henry is definitely not good enough for her), but looking optimistically into a beautiful future.
Reb, I think you’re right. It’ll probably be like 500 days of summer, where she meets some cute new guy at her awesome new job. I think that British publisher will read her blog and offer her a job writing stuff she cares about.
Just please not Betty and Daniel. That would be terrible.
I SO agree-they have such a cool friendship/brother-sister thing. I hate the idea of them together as a couple.
No Betty and Daniel and no Betty and Henry! WOuld have liked to see her with Gio but that ship has sailed
Yeah, I do not see any romantic chemistry between the two. Hopefully Betty will not get back with Henry, Matt or Gio. Maybe the show will end with the possibility of someone else entering her life, or her being on her own for a while, successful and happy…
Last night’s episode made me SO sad! I was a total Gio fan, so to know there’s no hope…*sniffle!* (Although Freddy still looks GOOD!). I don’t think she should be with Henry, personally, but it’s looking like they’re going to at least check out that scenario (and maybe he’ll be engaged or can’t leave his child or something). I honestly am still iffy on the Daniel/Betty thing, if only because they’ve got a great relationship as it is…man, at this point, I think to make me happy she just needs to end up alone and working on her dream! I can’t believe there’s only 2 episodes left – *sniff!!*
i can’t believe they are bringing Henry back, i’m really disappointed in that, his story line is done already. i was screaming at the tv when i saw his face.
Gio should have been the one, and i agree, he was really cute last night too…..very cute!!!!
my guess is that there will not be a betty/daniel thing and in all honesty, its better that way.

Deb, you said it all! Loved seeing Gio again but am hoping Henry is just a loose end and not Betty’s future.
Mark my words, Betty and Daniel will end up together. The writers keep hinting at it – last week’s ep when Betty took off her braces and Daniel gave her that funny look…
I wouldn’t have been against a relationship between Betty and Daniel if the writers had been given time to craft such a story line over the course of an entire season, but throwing them together in one or two episodes will seem totally out of the blue and unbelievable to me. Some people think that there have been hints throughout the entire series, especially this final season, but if there were indeed such hints, they were to subtle to make me believe that these two are passionately in love with each other. Betty and Daniel have NEVER appeared to be anything more than friends, or to have a relationship any closer than a brother and sister would have. Perhaps Daniel will surprise Betty by telling her that he has feelings for her, but I can’t imagine that Betty will just throw her dream of fulfilling her life’s true passion away for a possible train wreck of a relationship that pops up out of the blue from someone that she has only ever thought of as a friend and brother.
I saw ‘that look’ too! It was almost like he was looking at her in a totally different light. From what I understand, on other versions of this show, Betty has ended up with the boss.
Matt is coming!
Out of all of Betty’s boyfriends, I would want her to choose Matt, if she had to choose a man at all. Since the series has never really been about Betty being with one man (except, arguably, Henry), I think that she will choose to go away to seek a career opportunity that will fulfill her passion, just as she inspired Matt to do. That said, I hope that at the very least they bring Matt back for one of the last two episodes. Maybe she drunk-dialed him (in Africa!?) too. I have enjoyed every episode of “Ugly Betty”, but I do think that the writers did Daniel Eric Gold wrong by tossing Matt aside the way they did. First they make him a full cast member, but then the producers don’t even bother to put him in the Season Four cast photo, then they cut him loose in the middle of the season.
I didn’t like Matt at all. He’s too indecisive and a big baby about what he wants to do with his life. It would drive me insane! Gio could always show up at Hilda’s wedding and declare his love for Betty. Engaged, who cares? Engaged isn’t married…
and exactly why does anyone have to care if it drive YOU insane or not? This is about Betty.. not about dumb@ss April.

Hilda had a miscarriage. I think that episode aired right before the Olympics started.

Please, please, please, no Betty and Henry! He is just NOT good for her. I would be satisfied with Matt, or even with Daniel (I guess), anyone but Henry. I was a little tee’d that she saw Gio for all of one hour last night, and then she decided to turn down that great job offer and all of the progress she’s made at Mode. Since when is fashion not a respectable career? That message is what I dislike about this show and also the movie, The Devil Wears Prada.
It was so great to see Christina last night on the Betty ep, and I had forgotten how much she and Amanda don’t get along. Loved the quips just thought they packed too much in (like you mentioned).
I would like to see Betty go to London and get that internship back! Let Willy have Meade – who cares. Betty deserves to start her own path alone! More power to her.
One more classic quip: When Christina keeps getting recognized, Amanda asks: “Why do people keep recognizing you? Do they think you’re Judy Dench?”
Hate the idea of Betty ending up with drippy Henry rather than Daniel, but aside from that minor quibble, the show is doing a fantastic job of tying up loose ends for fans who have watched it from the beginning.
I laughed at that Judy Dench comment, too. lol
“Do it Betty! Show him your Mayan temples!” I laughed so hard at that one, and then realized how much I’m going to miss this show.
