The first reviews of the iPad are making the rounds this morning, and the overall impression is super positive. Come Saturday, the Internet will probably melt due to all the buzzing, so we’ll ask right now:
And if you bought one, what appeals most to you? Share in comments below.

Too little, too late. If this came out BEFORE the iPod Touch or iPhone, I could have seen myself buying one. My iPod Touch is more portable, thus it’s easier to manage. If it worked like an actual laptop…maybe.
Too me it’s just an oversized iPod Touch.
Agree. I appreciate Apple, I own Apple products. But this is such a gimmick.
Yuppers.
I’m so glad that someone else is saying this too! I completely agree that they did this totally backwards! If the iPad was first and then they shrank it down to the iPod Touch and iPhone I think that the buzz would probably be 3 times what it is now!
I’m reading these comments, and I agreed initially but, learning that this iPad can be seen as a replacement for notebook computer, going more mobile, this iPad may become huge. Upon first glance it seems like a bulky iPod touch, but it may turn out to be much more than that. Time will tell.
May being the operative word here. You’re still better off having a netbook and/or an iPod Touch.
Why buy the first one that’s coming out without any 3G capability this week? At the very least, I’d wait until those 3G versions come out later in the month. Plus, I want to try it in the store and see if it seems worth adopting so early given that it has no webcam, it doesn’t run multiple applications at once, and it won’t play Flash videos (which most embedded videos on the Internet are). The version available this Saturday will truly be nothing more than a giant iPod Touch, so I wonder how many people will be like me and at the very least wait until later in the month to get the ones that allow you to surf the net from anywhere.
Re: Flash, I was disappointed about that, too, until I learned that the iPad and iPhone/iTouch are basically destroying the dated format by not supporting it, and it’s forcing sites like Hulu to step up and debut HTML 5 content, which just runs better.
LOL… Apple is trying to force the death of Flash… but Jobs simply isn’t that powerful.
Looks cool. But a Louis Vutton bag looks cool too. Neither justifies $500+, since I have a laptop and an iPhone.
Ditto.
These technology fads are killing me! Every 6 months some must-have new item comes out amidst big media fanfare. Wait two years and it will be gone and replaced with something else that everyone just must have. No thanks to any or it.
Never buy a 1st Generation Apple product. Didn’t do it with the iPod, iPhone, or iMac, and now I own all three. Give it 6-8 months, and then buy …
I agree totally. I will wait for one with an iSight which will probably be by Xmas since they are typically on a 7 month cycle. I love my iPods, Mac Pro, iPhone, MacBook Pro and iMac, but would never have bought first gen!
Incorrect… Apples computers are on a minor refresh cycle of 7 months. Their portable devices such as iPods, iPhones, and now the iPad will only have an annual refresh rate because they are new generations and not minor upgrades.
Version 2.0 will come with an easy-to-pull string.
I won’t purchase this until the second generation iPad is released. I like to wait until all the bugs are worked out. I’m happy I held out for the iPhone 3GS.
I’m usually an early adopter, but I’m going to try my hardest to wait for the second gen to come out. I got my iPod Touch first gen (iPhones weren’t originally available in Canada), and it sucks having to pay for a firmware update while newer ones come out with the firmware
I’m sure plenty of thes “OMG, I must have the latest thing” idiots will buy it. Plus, they should manufacture them here in the US at the least.
This is getting ridiculous. Do they think we’re made of money???!!! Hey I just got a laptop. Modern Family doing an iPad promo. I hate product integration. Bones does it too. Sleazy.
Please don’t jump to conclusions. Modern Family didn’t do a promo — they weren’t paid anything to use the Apple product. The writers wrote a script about Phil getting excited about a new technology product first — the iPad was an obvious choice and Apple complied (without the usual promo conditions). Check out The Hollywood Reporter’s article on the episode.
For the cost, it’s absolutely a ridiculous vanity product. At best it could be considered a prototype tech demo in terms of what it does. People who consider this a viable alternative to a laptop or even a netbook, one, do not do very much with their laptop or netbook, and, two, don’t worry much about the value of money. For what the closest to practical model costs, you could buy both a decent laptop and desktop computer. As a toy, it’s pretty cool, but being a toy, it’s going to need to cost a lot less before it achieves any sort of mainstream penetration.
Looks like a giant iPod to me. Apple did this totally backwards. Love my iPhone and Macbook Pro. Don’t need this “gadget”. Sorry Apple!
Yeah, I’m an apple lover (and former apple specialist, ironically enough) but I just cannot justify purchasing this versus a BN Nook. I have my iPhone which has a sucky battery life as it is – the iPad has a worse battery life – and does all these things that the iPad can do. Where-as a Kindle or Nook has a battery life of friggin’ 10 days which I feel is important when reading a book… I can watch a movie on my iPhone if need be.
I already have the iPad. It’s nothing like a iPod touch or a iPhone. It does different things then them. I love my iPad. But I didn’t stand in line for this iPad, I went to a apple store and they only had 6 left Saturday lucky me.
What does it do that my iphone cannot? (other than watch netflix….)
I definitely want an iPad…I’m just on the fence about now or later. I used one at my local bestbuy and there is a difference between it and my iPhone. It’s faster and doesn’t redirect you to mobile versions of websites. I spend a lot of time surfing the web from my iPhone (I have a lot of downtime at work) I definitely don’t want the 3G version I’m not interested in paying an additional subscription fee. It’s just a matter of patience cuz I know the next version will be better and I don’t want to be buying a new iPad every year.
