'10 Things I Hate About You' season premiere: 10 reasons we love it

10-Things-Hate-TV_240.jpg Image Credit: Randy Holmes/ABC ABC Family’s TV adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You returned for its second season last night, which seems like a good occasion to note how this show has blossomed since it premiered last summer. For a while, it was struggling against the beloved Julia Stiles-Heath Ledger teen movie on which it was based, but now it’s really come into its own. (The overprotective dad bit is still great, but we’ve blessedly lost the whole Taming of the Shrew aspect of things and settled in for a sweet comedy about the budding relationship between two very different sisters.) And so, based on this fresh new season’s premiere, 10 things to love about 10 Things I Hate About You: READ FULL STORY »

'Castle' recap: Richard to the rescue!

Categories: Castle, Television, TV Recap

Castle-Boom-DanaImage Credit: Danny Feld/ABCWho cares if the kind of massive blaze we saw at the end of Part 1 makes us sure that Beckett’s apartment would’ve been impenetrably engulfed in flames and that there’d be no wayshe would’ve survived the blast by running into her bathroom, closing the door, and jumping into her tub. We’re suckers for serial killer storylines, for Castle breaking down doors (I may actually have yelled “Castle!” at that moment), and for all the banter that followed. “It’s killing you, isn’t it?…. Having to wait this long to tell me how you banged down the door?” ”You want me to start from the beginning?” READ FULL STORY »

Countdown to 'Lost': How many of you are still counting down to 'Lost'?

Categories: Lost, Television

doc-jensen-kwonImage Credit: Mario Perez/ABCWaaaaait a second — I’m not Doc Jensen! No, you’re not suddenly reading some kind of Sideways Popwatch, and I promise Doc J and I aren’t actually the same polymorphous entity, although that would be pretty cool. No, our fearless leader on all things Lost is simply traveling on assignment, but don’t worry. The Doc will still file his weekly Lost TV Watch as per usual.

For this week’s Lost run-up, however, you’re stuck with Asst. Prof. Vary. And like the unruly sub I am, before we dive into our hopes and dreams for the episode that just might, finally, at long, long last, reunite Jin and Sun, I’m going to take this rare opportunity atop the official Lost soapbox to bring up one of the most divisive questions among the Lost faithful: Is this show still worth caring about?

Conan's out, but who should host the Tony Awards?

tonys-hostImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR Photos; Sylvain Gaboury/PR Photos; John P. Filo/CBSTriumph the Insult Comic Dog will have to find another opportunity to hump Broadway stars. Conan O’Brien has reportedly passed on the chance to host this year’s Tony Awards, which fuels the guessing game as to who should emcee the June 13 event honoring the New York theater season. Unfortunately, some of the most obvious candidates for the Tony gig may have conflicts this year.

Take Neil Patrick Harris, who earned such raves as last year’s host of the CBS broadcast that he wound up hosting the Emmys — and making a cameo during the opening of this month’s Oscarcast as well. While Harris will be on hiatus from CBS’ How I Met Your Mother, he may be busy prepping the August production of the musical Rent that he’s directing at the Hollywood Bowl. READ FULL STORY »

Brian Williams helps Jimmy Fallon slow-jam health care bill news: Could he be this funny on his own show?

Brian Williams just cannot resist an opportunity to show up in late-night and be funny — and, well, thank goodness. Last night, he played straight news-man to Jimmy Fallon once again in their second slow-jamming-the-news segment, this time about health care reform. (“You heard him right, baby…this bill’s gonna fill your doughnut hole.”) You will laugh…and possibly learn something: READ FULL STORY »

James Franco's new Funny or Die video: This guy can freakin' act

'Saving Grace' season premiere: Heaven-sent?

saving_grace_l.jpg Image Credit: Erik Heinila/TNT I like shows with surprising settings, where religion isn’t a punchline, and friendships seem organic and normal. I like shows about bad behavior. I like shows with a sense of humor. I like shows about women. Unsurprisingly, I like Saving Grace, even if last night’s season premiere was a bit too on-the-nose. As far as setting up the final run, though, “Let’s Talk” set a very clear tone: It’s showdown time. READ FULL STORY »

'Greek' finale recap: Grow up, Peter Pan

Greek-Grow-OlderSpring Break felt different this year. Suddenly for our CRU seniors, it was no longer just an opportunity to party and forget all responsibilities (don’t they do that school anyway?) but rather just a momentary break from thinking about the future. And in case you haven’t noticed, no one has been thinking about the future more than Casey.

The episode’s focus on fear tied things together nicely: “Fear is natural, it’s good, it keeps you from making mistakes and doing things you’re not ready for,” Casey explained to Cappie, from high atop a bungee-jumping ledge. Of course her fear and the fear of many graduating seniors was much scarier than a measly hundred-foot drop. READ FULL STORY »

'Kell on Earth': Now taking your final(e) verdicts

Kell_on_earthImage Credit: Mary Ellen Mark/Bravo I just tested my Kell IQ on Bravo’s website, and I’m disappointed to report that I am “level: intern.” Okay, maybe “disappointed” is a bit much. I can’t give much credence to a test that considers “intern” a quotient. Thus, I am not crushed. But as someone who’s watched this season of Kell on Earth, I was surprised that I retained so little of the obscure knowledge I was fed. I think that can be attributed to that fact that I don’t use much of my (actual) IQ to watch Kell on Earth. (Admittedly, I like to ration those precious points.) The show is far from being Lost – I watch Kell with one eye and one ear. Barely. READ FULL STORY »
