'Marcel's Quantum Kitchen': Is this what we want from 'Top Chef' contestants?

marcelImage Credit: Isabella Vosmikova/BravoMarcel from Top Chef is getting his own show on Syfy, and yet my dream of a Kevin Gillespie show called “First We Cook, Then We Cuddle” goes unfulfilled. The world is pretty unfair, you guys.

Here’s Syfy’s description of Marcel’s Quantum Kitchen: “In each episode, Marcel and his new catering and event company will be hired by a demanding client to produce an extraordinary celebration or event. Based on the client’s requests, Marcel will dream up a theme and cuisine…” So it’s Ace of Cakes, minus the charm (and Charm City).

I wish MQK was going to be a hardcore kitchen chemistry series that explored and explained crazy techniques. But a personality-driven, feat-of-the-week Food Network Lite show? Unappetizing.

Okay, PopWatchers, you’re in charge: What kind of show would you create for your favorite former Top Chef contestant?

'The Good Wife' kiss: A producer reveals what the interrupted 'Are we...' would have been

SPOILER! I am not proud of how many times I’ve rewound that office scene last night between Will and Alicia. Nor can I believe that I just emailed one of the show’s publicists asking her to find out from one of the exec producers what Will was going to say when Alicia interrupted his “Are we…” line to return his kiss. After watching it for the 10th time, I started wondering if he had a full sentence in mind, or if he just intended to say “Are we [insert nod toward the couch].”

According to Robert King, one of the show’s cocreators, they thought the interrupted line would have been “Are we making a mistake?”

And as for the nod…well, we’ll leave that to your imaginations,” the rep adds. “Try to stay out of the gutter tho. lol.” READ FULL STORY »

This or That: Kirk Cameron's Mike Seaver impression vs. Mark-Paul Gosselaar's Zack Morris

There truly is no worthy replacement for Kathy Lee Gifford on the Today show’s raucous fourth hour slot, but the morning show tried to compensate by having a different TV heartthrob (and I use that term lightly) fill in each day this week. Kirk Cameron co-hosted along with Hoda Kotb yesterday,a dn though they discussed the usual fare—the success or failure of being a child star in light of the recent news of Corey Haim’s death, Cameron’s marriage to his on-screen girlfriend and his relationship with god—the most notable tidbit was when the actor dished about still being recognized as Mike Seaver, his character from Growing Pains.

Apparently, people still call him “Mike,” and Cameron so humbly refers to this as “Seaver Fever.” He then indulged every Growing Pains fan by transforming into the geeky Mike for 60 seconds right on the Today show set. Take a look at the clip, starting at the 1:35 minute mark:

I know Cameron’s impression was impromptu and I appreciate the popped collar and all, but it was nothing compared to the masterpiece theater that was Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s eerily spot-on impression of Zack Morris he performed when he paid a visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last June. From the hair to the clothes to that giant phone, forget Seaver Fever; Gosselaar totally brought back my Zack Attack.

How do you guys think the impressions compare? Which do you like better?

Lady Gaga wears Soda Cans in her hair; What other household objects should go Gaga?

Lady-Gaga-cans-hairToday, Lady Gaga showed up in the Sydney airport with Diet Coke cans in her hair. I have several questions. Does this mean that Lady Gaga is in favor of the proposed New York soda tax? Is she explicitly referencing Andy Warhol’s Coke Bottles? How does this fit into the final season of Lost? Did she just run out of curlers?

Gaga debuted the Coke-can look in her recent video, “Telephone,” a hyper-referential decadent-trash opera that we here at EW.com have not been shy about loving. (Seriously, it’s fantastic.) The thing that I like most about Gaga is how she can take something that seems very banal – soda cans, crutches, a honey bun, a piano – and make that thing seem deeply perverse and uncomfortably alive. It’s a little bit H.R. Giger and a little bit X-rated anime, and it’s got me thinking: What other blandly normal things can Gaga turn crazy with her spooky-scary magic?

Just looking around my desk, I’m seeing a stapler, a pink highlighter, and a pile of post-it notes. I’m picturing a music video set in an Office Space-ish cubicle world. A spaceship from Neptune and/or the future crashlands. Gaga emerges, wearing a dress made entirely of post-it notes. A battle ensues when the locals fire exploding mini-lasers out of their pink highlighters. That’s when the dancing staplers show up, and things get NSFW.

This is fun! PopWatchers, what things from your daily life would you like to see Lady Gaga turn into a Pop Art fashion object?

Exclusive clip from 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels': Things gets serious

Ready to rock and roll all night (and furiously remove make-up ev-er-y day) with Gene Simmons? You better be, because the season 5 premiere of A&E’s Gene Simmons Family Jewels is just a few days away (March 21 at 9 p.m.). And by the looks of this exclusive clip — which shows Shannon Tweed getting a biopsy and Gene embarking on, and then canceling, a tour — we better gear up for a dramatic season.

What else can we expect from season 5? According to A&E's press release, Sophie graduates high school, Gene turns 60 years old, and Nick rocks out at Comic-Con to launch his graphic novel, Incarnate. But there's more to celebrate: This season sees Family Jewels' 100th episode. So will you tune into watch what Gene himself calls "the most unconventional conventional family"?

St. Patrick's Day Clip du jour: 'Nightmare Before St. Patrick's Day'

You don’t see a ton of Nightmare Before Christmas spoofs, which makes this St. Patrick’s Day take on “What’s This?” that much more fun:

Yep, that’ll be stuck in my head forever.

'Toy Story 3': How good will it have to be to meet your expectations?

Tagged: ,

Pixar screened an unfinished cut of Toy Story 3 yesterday at Showest, and early impressions are incredibly positive. Our own Nicole Sperling says it’s great, and the general consensus says the same. Squee! The film opens June 18 — just three short months away! — and includes a slew of new characters, like the robot Sparks, a triceratops Trixie, and Stretch, a glittery octopus

Time to clear off desk space to make room for my new collection of Pixar tsotchkes.

I am absurdly excited for Toy Story 3 (in 3-D!), but now I’m in a pickle: I want so badly for this film to blow me away that anything short of a soul-expanding revelation is going to feel like a letdown. What about you, PopWatchers? How are you managing your expectations? Will TS3 have to go to infinity and beyond, or will you be happy no matter what?

'The Romantics' trailer: Anna Paquin, Katie Holmes, and a bow-tied Elijah Wood

Using the endlessly useful wedding set-up (see Rachel Getting Married, American Wedding, Four Weddings and a Funeral, etc.), The Romantics follows college friends, including Kate Holmes, Anna Paquin and Josh Duhamel, who reunite for two of the group’s upcoming nuptials in a gray, New England town that perfectly sets the stage for angst, confessions and, apparently, some skinny-dipping. It’s similar to Valentine’s Day in that its cast is filled with plenty of bold-faced names, but this seems to be grounded in a more interesting and believable reality. If you don’t gather that from the trailer, perhaps the earthy Feist music will give you a hint.

The film is based on the novel by Galt Niederhoffer, who also wrote and directed this hipster flick. Just how hipster is it? Check out Elijah Wood’s bow tie in the recently released trailer:

Will you see The Romantics? And who among the starry cast are you most excited to see?

'Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis: Ben Stiller' -- one of the funniest?

Zach Galifianakis has filmed another installment of his “Between Two Ferns” chat show, this time welcoming Greenberg star Ben Stiller. It had me from the moment the graphic identified him as “Actor, Duplex” right through Galifianakis asking him, “Do you wish that you had ever followed your parents into comedy? Taken that route, comedy route?” Hardest I’ve laughed at something with Ben Stiller in it since Tropic Thunder.

'American Idol' alum Alex Lambert sings 'Let Me Love You' on Ellen: What could have been!

Last week, after being cast off American Idol, contestant Alex Lambert told EW’s Archana Ram that he hadn’t intended to sing “Trouble” — the song that ultimately led to his ouster — on Top 16 week. No, instead he had hoped to sing Mario’s sweet love song “Let Me Love You,” but he’d changed his mind after a producer told him he’d get more votes if he sang “Trouble.” Guess said producer was wrong. But on yesterday’s episode of The Ellen Show we got a bittersweet taste of “What if…” as Lambert pulled out his guitar and sang “Let Me Love You.”

Nice, right? I don’t think there’s any doubt that Alex Lambert’s exit was much too soon, but this makes it that much worse. Just seeing bit of what else he could have done on stage (even if it is all sort of exactly the same vibe) puts a more salt in the already salty wound that is American Idol season 9.

Do you agree, PopWatchers? Are you impressed with Alex’s “Let Me Love You”? Taking last night’s on-the-upswing performances into account, do you think America made the right decision letting Alex go last week? Would “Let Me Love You” have saved Alex?
