'Parks and Recreation' recap: Let's hear it for the schlemiel and schlemazel

Parks-Rec-SambergImage Credit: Justin Lubin/NBCI’m starting to feel like a broken record. There are only so many times you can praise a series before you become a bore, so from here on forward, let’s assume this: Parks and Recreation is awesome and hilarious. Write it down in your book of facts, write it on a Post-It and stick it to your bathroom mirror to remind yourself every day, and begin using the show’s title as a replacement for the word combination ”awesome and hilarious” (example: ”I saw a man get kicked in his bean bag today; it was Parks and Recreation.”) If people look at you weird, just know that you are superior to them because you watch the show. If something changes, I’ll let you know. READ FULL STORY »

'The Office' recap: What a dump!

Filed under: Television and tagged: , ,

the-officeImage Credit: Justin Lubin/NBCSomething didn’t sit right with me about last night’s Office. Was it the near-absence of the “interviews”? Was it the mere two seconds of hearing Pam’s voice? The lack of hilarity between Michael and Dwight? Or is it simply that the throne of humor is moving on from the stars of seasons past to the likes of Andy, Erin, Kelly, and Meredith. Their stars shone brightest last night and saved the low points from the people we previously tuned in to see. READ FULL STORY »

'It's Always Sunny' baby: Should Sweet Dee get pregnant?

sunny-philadelphiaImage Credit: Patrick McElhenney / FXI think all fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia let out a collective “Ahhh” when they read the news that stars and spouses Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney are expecting their first child in August. But now comes the tough question: Should Olson’s pregnancy be written into the show?

A rep for FX tells us the cast will start filming the sixth season on April 16, and with scripts still being penned, no decision has yet been made. What do you think?

It’s a shame they’ve already done the Sweet Dee tries selling her womb as a surrogate storyline, or they could have gone that route. That would’ve let them show us the joys of pregnancy and labor (can you imagine?!) without the baby actually having to stick around. It would feel kind of cheap to revisit that concept with her trying to convince a gay couple to pay her to swim in their pool and drink all day, right? I suppose Dee could get pregnant and give the child up for adoption, but that feels a bit too real for this show. So then we have to ask ourselves if we want the kid to stay in the picture? Envisioning Charlie trying to read to it in the bar does make me smile. Dennis could use it to pick up chicks (nothing sexier than a hot guy holding a baby). Mac could try to turn it into a little moneymaker like he and Dee did D.B. (a.k.a. Dumpster Baby). Frank, well, Dee shouldn’t let him near the child considering how she and Dennis turned out, but he could be a babysitter in a pinch. If they go for it, I’m sure it will be appropriately genius and twisted, and we’ll all promise not to ask where the baby is when we haven’t seen it for weeks. (The dad could be fun to cast…) But I’m feeling now might not be the right time. My money is on them playing Olson’s changing figure as a weight gain. She could fake a pregnancy to try trapping a man (à la Glee!). You know she’d do it.

Please let Gaga Dogs be the new LOL Cats

First there were Lady Gaga Barbies. Then there were Lady Gaga cookies. And now, there are Lady Gaga dogs. Photographer Jesse Freidin shot a few pooches in Gaga outfits, and the results are pretty wonderful. (You can read more about his process here.)

PopWatchers, be honest: What icons do you dress your pets as? Am I the only one who has attempted, oh, Yankee great Don “Cattingly”? Or Cat Stevens, which is just whenever a cat is near a guitar? Anyone?

Which other celebrity pinball machines should exist?

Some nerd named Ben Heckendorn created a pinball machine based on the collective works of Bill Paxton. Genius! Check out more photos, video demonstrations, and “Bill Paxton Pinball Evolution” on Ben’s blog; meanwhile, here are my Top Five Dream Celebrity Pinball Machines. I bet this guy gets commissioned for thousands of these things. [via Kotaku]

'American Idol' Exit Q&A: Lacey Brown on what she'd look for in a winner

Lacey-BrownImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/Fox

The results are in, and it’s the end of the line for Lacey Brown on American Idol. But the 24-year-old fire-haired singer doesn’t think it’s the end of the line for her career. In our post-elimination talk with Brown, she talks about what’s next and the benefits of waterproof mascara.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: So tell me, how are you holding up after last night’s elimination?
LACEY BROWN: You know, I didn’t get a lot of sleep. I got about 15 minutes. But I didn’t do anything too strenuous. It’s not like we went out partying or anything like that. I’m not a party girl. We pretty much just went back to our place and hung out with the contestants and laughed a lot and we joked around and played some pool, stuff like that. [We] just had some fun last night, and [I'm] glad I stayed because I’m definitely going to miss them, so I wanted to spend some time with them before I left. But I’ve lost a lot of sleep before — this isn’t the first time. So I’ll probably get over it because it’s really exciting to be [doing] all the interviews and shows and stuff coming up. 'Lost' cast saying 'mmm, cake': Mystery solved!

Filed under: Lost, Television and tagged: , , ,

So this “mmm, cake” video with the cast of Lost sure is weird:

It turns out it was a promo for ABC’s Wichita affiliate, KAKE, according to the show’s rep. Whew, case closed. I think we can all agree was the big mystery about Lost this season. No offense, Doc Jensen.

The spot was filmed back in 2008 when the cast was doing the January press tour. Does this make the video less weird? Not really. I mean, “mmm, cake” is still haunting when uttered by Michael Emerson, no?

Clip du jour: 'The TV Theme Medley'

Charles in Charge and uh, Naruto, together at last:

We’ve all mourned the death of the theme song before, but let’s do it one more time. Which of your favorite TV tunes didn’t make the cut here?

'The Switch' trailer: Jennifer Aniston turns to the turkey baster

Here’s the trailer for Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman’s new baby-making movie, The Switch. It used to be called The Baster (yes really), but that didn’t test well. (It was also too confusing, because according to the trailer, The Baster is clearly Juliette Lewis.) Is Jason Bateman making a baby-crying/airplane sound effect while fumbling with the sperm cup over the toilet? I hope so. I also love that the editing makes it seem like Bateman’s Wally hung up his cell phone on Aniston’s Kassie (ugh, with the K) mid-sentence.

I think that kid looks a little more like Jeff Goldblum than Bateman, with the huge dark eyes. (Is anyone else getting a Ted Danson in Bored to Death vibe from Goldblum here? I have no idea why; Danson doesn’t wear chunky sweaters in that. It must just be a “slightly out-of-it mentor” thing.)

I love Jason Bateman so much I saw Extract in a theater, so I’ll probably see this. You too?

'Ugly Betty': Justin kissed a boy last night...and we liked it!!!

On last night’s episode of Ugly Betty, Justin took one big gay step out of the closet and finally kissed a boy! It’s been a long journey for the flamboyant teen and feels fitting now that Betty is sadly coming to an end.

The scene in question was handled awfully well. I love the awkward shoving between Justin and his pal. It’s one of those moments where you can tell they both wanted to connect with each other but just aren’t sure exactly how. I also have to give props to creator Silvio Horta and the producers for putting something so brave and progressive on network television. I can’t think of another series that has tackled coming out with someone so young. It’s an important and delicate issue that should be addressed more often.

What did you think of Justin’s kiss? Are you as impressed with Ugly Betty?
