'Family Guy' gives EW an excuse to mention 'The Comeback'

Did Class Holes, the James Woods sitcom not exactly created by Brian Griffin on last night’s Family Guy, remind anyone else of the embarrassingly awful Room and Bored from HBO’s The Comeback? The rounded, goldenrod font of its end credits (à la Full House) was another nice touch of pure evil disguised as fun.

Once I had succumbed to Valerie Cherish mode, I also wondered if the obligatory chimp character in Class Holes could even be a sneaky reference to Val’s former ’80s sitcom, I’m It! Everyone loved that chimp, you know. Remember: Everything on TV in 2010 can somehow relate to a failed HBO series from 2005. You just have to wanna see that!  (Watch Family Guy on Hulu or after the jump; Brian’s sitcom is 17 minutes in.)

Family Guy needs a team of new writers like a fat kid needs cake. Sooooooooooo unfunny.

a fat kid needs a diet, not a cake. fail.

Youve never heard someone say “Like a fat kid needs cake” ? People say that all the time. Looks like you fail at being relevant

@Lulu: it’s like a fat kid loves cake when people use it. What fat kid needs cake? It would make more sense to say ‘like a skinny person needs a sandwich.’

    Did someone say “goldenrod”?!

    I miss The Comeback!

I will never get over the Comeback cancellation! If you have the time to read this Lisa Kudrow and MPK, you have the time to pitch the Comeback to another network. Pleaaaaaaaase!!!

Please mention “The Comeback” everyday. Just watched a few episodes this weekend, have to once in a while. It was such an amazingly funny show.

This season of Family Guy hasn’t been the best. There, I said it.

Good Lord, this show is awful. How it continues to amuse millions is beyond me.

    • Dan

The problem is it requires a sense of humor, that might be your stumbling point.

love Family guy—its a cartoon–not a real life documentary–can Americans ever lighten up a bit?

    • davey

      No…they can’t!

I miss the glory days when The Comeback was mentioned on PopWatch daily! Aren’t LK and MPK rich enough to just front a second season??

What is “The Comeback” for those of us that don’t do the HBO thing?

Family guy is by far the most imaginative, creative and ingenious comedy, not only currently, but in a long time. Every-time something is unusually talented and unique it usually flies over the heads of most lamebrain deadbeats, which is where most criticism comes from. However sooner or later (usually later) the flock following deadbeats wake up and realize,”hey this show is good, even if it isn’t the same old nonsense that we are used to” Once this stage is reached, it is when something unique makes history. I hope family guy can hang on until this golden moment it deserves arrives.
