Happy Birthday, Sarah Jessica Parker!

Dear Sarah Jessica Parker: You may be 45 years old today, but in my heart, you will always be the girl in this clip from the seminal 1985 teen-dance movie, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, a movie I love so much that I wrote my name on my VHS tape in permanent marker so that no one would steal it, ever. Thank you for everything. Also, if you are 45, I do not want to think about how old that makes me. xo, w

perfect timing for south park to make fun of her

  • Nshi

45? What is that in horse years?

  • Ramo

I hope she wasn’t watching South Park yesterday. Yikes.

You know, I applaud Sarah for looking the way she does. A lesser woman (or man), would have undergone massive reconstructive facial surgery to correct what is otherwise a massive joke on the parts of the gods. Good for you, Sarah! You’ve got steely determination and gumption!

        bitter much?

    • Jaded1

South Park annihilated her yesterday. And I’m a fan but that was funny…Oscar dress and all!

Why would anyone watch that crappy show?

      • ernie

uhhh for the satire and memorable characters. There’s a lot of truth in South Park. South Park is for people who are immature, yet intelligent and cynical, and who aren’t easily offended.

Love Sarah. Love Girls. Always have. Happy b-day!

I think my first SJP memory comes from her days on Square Pegs, and I’ve been a fan since then.

    Happy B-Day, Sarah!

In my heart you’ll always be a trashy non actress.

  • Jen

She’ll always be Rusty from Footloose to me!

  • Dana

love this movie Happy bday Sarah

I love SJP. There, I said it. And I can’t wait for Sex and the City 2.

    • bsure

Yay! With you on both counts (esp. since it’s now confirmed that Aiden is back for #2). Loved Aiden.

I used to hate her, but recently I saw Ed Wood and I thought she was amazing in the movie and she proved to me that she is a good actress. Happy Birthday SJP!!

I think I read in an interview that this movie would be the pinnacle of her career, and that she was VERY happy to finally be known for other projects. All I remember thinking was “But…that movie rocked!” Seriously, it had dance off! Does it get much more ’80s than a dance off? In fact, that’s how my husband refers to that movie as “the one with THE dance off.” And what a cast! In addition to SJP, there’s Helen Hunt, Johnathan Silverman and Shannen Doherty. Love it, and her.

OMG I totally remember a comment she made in Seventeen, that it would probably say on her tombstone that she made Girls Just Want To Have Fun! She’s gone on to more prestigious projects, but this will probably always remain my favourite thing she’s ever done! It’s still one of my go-to VHS movies!

Why would anyone watch South Park?

    • Pastafarian

Are you still trolling? Shoo! Shoo!

  • robinepowell

I loved that movie and it also starred Helen Hunt and Shannen Dorherty. ;)

I did own it on VHS but upgraded to DVD. :D

Classic. Love SJPS. Her love interest could be played in the remake by American Idol’s Tim Urban. Just add low cut white T-shirt and leather jacket to the stage slide.

    • rebecca in wonderland

haha! Tim Urban could totally play him, they look so alike!!

My favorite early SJP work is Square Pegs..awesome stuff. Clear and accurate representation of being an awkward teenager in the 80′s. Couldn’t wait to watch this weekly during it’s original run. Cannot believe she is 45 and agree, what do that make me? Closely pushing 40 now and I cannot believe it. In my heart I am still 17 and this clip just increases that feeling. And, look how cute early Shannen Doherty was. Thanks for this one Whitney! Fun!

      oops..missed my grammar typo…
